Le edgy rival who has to sometimes team up with the protagonist and eventually befriends them

>le edgy rival who has to sometimes team up with the protagonist and eventually befriends them

why do so many animes do this?

The power of friendship and rivalry is a staple of the shonen genre.

BASTARD!! Had it everytime

Are Asuka and Vegeta the same?

>hate the "stupid" overpowered MC
>arrogant, egotistical and self centered
>lose their shit every time they get bested by MC

>over powered moments before they die

Difference is Asuka is a girl and is in love with Shinki (a widdle bit)

Why are they deleting completely legitimate DB threads?

every time

Generally to demonstrate a love of what they do and competing for its own sake above anything in particular they might be competing over.

Except Asuka's seiyuu said the character does not like Shinji, but that's just a voice actress. I don't know.

Vegeta's just a male tsundere.

Not many do that

DBZ and Naruto are the only ones I can think of

Vegeta worked hard and still come close to a literal retard

Asuka is just a woman who whines and complains when things dont go her way

>Implying Vegeta isn't secretly homo for Goku

People don't like to invest a lot into a character just so they can be killed or written out after being defeated. Making them part of the team gives them an out.

Well Asuka worked hard too, but the fact that a scared little boy beat her in skill drove her mad.

Vegeta was like the same, it drove him mad that a low level "circus clown" Saiyan beat him in strength, that his destiny of destroying Frieza , the person who killed his people was beaten by the person he hated the most. A person he considered inferior.

To be fair to Vegeta, he still hasn't befriended Goku. He's just a lot less hostile towards him.

He did at the end of the Buu arc but he reverted for Super.

Asuka was more scared of the Angels. When she showed up she was more coordinated from simulation training and he had combat experience.

>he still hasn't befriended Goku

you are kidding right?

They're pretty close in Buu. Even before the whole Majin Vegeta which was more of a hate-love kind of thing.

That didn't stop her from being incredibly narcissistic and self centered, and that moment of fear only latested for that episode just as mere comic relief.

It would be pretty cool if in 4.0 they have Shinji and Asuka fight to the death, for real this time. All the pride on the line.

That moment, the two moments he reminds her they can't move in water, and the moments she's hitting him in the head while he's on the radio coordinating with Misato.

why didn't super keep this outfit?

The saiyan armor looks stupid espically
