Unless they got Etsuko Yakushimaru to sing again it could have never been anywhere near as good as the first ED.

They put artwork of the film in the ED, so there's that. I liked the beginning of it, with the maps of it, but the IIIIIII LOOOOOVE YOUUUUUU is fucking terrible!

I really did not like the OP cover, Jpop bands with both male and female vocalists all sound the same to me.

Checked it and they are going to screen Mind Game (arguably his best work) and bits of Ping Pong (why?). Still cool, but no new film.
Also, I guess they'll screen a high definition master of Mind Game. It would be so cool if anyone could rip it.

The more the merrier IMO.
The female vocal is an obvious effort to adhiere a larger female audience more like the tone of the movie. It's a pretty good strategy, also a cover is not that bad.
I don't mind the cover. It's obviously not as good, but it's just a cover in a different style.
ED though is complete garbage.
I can kind of understand remaking the ED since the original is a pretty unique/weird song that might turn people away but the song they replaced it with had such shit singers and wasn't a good song
I don't think anyone has ever been turned away by the original ED. I mean, even if the person doesn't like the show (pretty unlikely, actually), they will admit the ED is bomb.

I'll give it to them the updated OP looks gorgeous and I'm glad it's still the same song, just in a cutesy style, but the original is just so much better. Can't wait for someone to combine the Ajikan version with the new OP.

The ending is pretty meh and is obviously an extremely unsubtle way to shill for the new movie by sticking it's characters in there.
I predict that there might be some subtle edits in this rebroadcast to connect it to the movie. Characters from the movie appearing in the backgrounds ect.

They are used narratively in the last episodes I think. They matter more than in most shows.
Ost is going to be done by Michiru Oshima and main theme is by Asian Kung-fu generations so I'm pretty optimistic.

I've just read it a couple of times from anons saying that Yuasa is doing three projects this year which is the movie, a series in the spring, and the collaboration. The movie and series are confirmed, but can't find anything about the collab.

No, unfortunately. I can read Japanese, so I read the novel years ago.
Morimi's stuff would be tough to translate anyway.

My own interpretation of it would be that its about the doldrum and greyness of life but continuing on in spite of that, knowing life can be beautiful and there's a ray of hope.
