Asuna, much like the Aincrad arc of SAO, isn't bad but just disappointing. She's hyped up as kind of this badass who can fight on par with Kirito (and should be stronger than Kirito by all means, except for the fact that Kirito is literally Jesus) but ends up doing nothing useful except dying so Kirito can get mad. After that she is a powerless captured princess in Alfheim (which can be done right, a powerful female character reduced to a state of helplessness can have a lot of impact on the viewers if executed well) and becomes a meaningless side character in GunGale.
I will admit she's one of the few semi-decent tsundere in anime though.
