Sounded way too upbeat compared to the series' grim, bleak, post-apocalyptic world. Still a great song though.
Flyers from Death parade
absolutely. cool song but it just didn't fit
Sure, but we can all agree that the ending was PERFECT.
>80s chill rock
do you even Sup Forums

>historical series/setting
>random rock or pop opening
fitting too

I fucking DARE you to find something more misleading. OP's example is okay, but baby tier.
Shuffle! totally doesn't deserve this OP
Yeah, that's actually a decent song.

I never understood why they went with this song.
Tell me why, tell me why, tell me what you want
I think it fits as a sort of ironic contrast, demonstrating how fucked up it is for Guts and how hellish is struggle becomes and showing the opening as a sort of reflection on how things could have gone well.
The emotional contrast between the opening and the ending is also perfect, musically showing Golden Age Guts descent from friend filled adventures to hellish loner nightmare fantasy.
Narutaru is unbeatable in the misleading OP stakes, but Magipoka is a worthy second. I just love the torrid yuri lyrics too especially in Kotomi's free interpretation that tries to match the language with the visual tone rather than going for a literal but lifeless translation.
Madoka back when it was airing tricked a bunch of people before episode 3
How could anyone have been "tricked" after the cold open?
It contrasts the dark past (opening riff) and kind demeanor of kenshin
I think it was pretty fitting for the most of Golden Age arc.
Good job there, user, only 24 posts in the thread before yours yet you didn't even bother looking at them.
Manga was way better

Rock the Planet from Urusei Yatsura. Oddest thing is that there's space travel and aliens in the anime, so it's not even that out there, but they never actually go and do a space arc involving everyone like the opening suggests.
The OP for Gakkou Gurashi, at least for the first few episodes.
Tower of Druaga comes to mind for its ops

It comes off as an mmo but is fantasy

Brain Powerd. OP is nothing but naked chicks flying around, but the show itself is typical Yoshiyuki Tomino and barely even has any nudity beyond the opening.

I love how Paranoia Agent's opening seems ridiculously off-base until you get about two-thirds of the way through the show and realize that it's actually perfectly representative of what the show's really about.

Fucking Imagawa. I was hoping a fun throwback to the old tetsujin, but instead I got a dark, brooding slow paced show with very little action.
The second opening was more unfitting especially because it started playing at the pinnacle of the series with most fights
The bast part is where you see Aoshi walking with his big ass sword probably thinking about murdering Kenshin and the bitch is singing "I love you"
