Unions

Redpill me on unions

Are they an economical drain on the workforce that keeps the incompetent employed or are they actually necessary to protecting workers rights?

Union carpenter fag here. Was sub-contractor for 17 years until all the beaners came and stole all the work, and kept wages low. It got bad around 2010, there was nothing for work. I joined the union. Have had steady work, in safe environment, pension and health insurance. My take home pay is about half of what it was as a sub, but I don't work nearly as hard, and don't take the job home with me.
Sub contracting wages still stagnant. Laid off right now, collecting unemplyment so i can Sup Forums all day.
Can't complain. Union donates to many charities I support, sent me on a free trip to Vegas for training. The work I/we do is nothing but top shelf quality.

Collective bargaining is pretty fucking bluepilled.

Your pay and benefits are between you and your employer.

Unions anymore only exist to validate their own existence by causing problems 99% of the time while taking your money so some fat fucks can do nothing all day except tell you how lucky you are to have them.

It's a scam.

t. Former union guy

One day I'll bother doing the reading to learn why US unions are so different to the ones over here.

true

Many trade unions are good, at the least the ones that have a guild quality to them. They help standardize education/quality and what not. Having said that, many other unions act as mafia and basically extort employers. Public unions should die, period dot. They are a complete conflict of interest. Also prevailing wage needs to fuckin die as well!

The mafia is the short answer

Unions are filling w niggs and mud skins on daily

They are actually just a bunch of leeching (((lawyers))) that get you to sign a union contract so they can take money from you while being useless in actual negotiations with employers.

It's socialist scum. Plain and simple.

If you don't like working for an employer then save your self the time, quit and find a different employer.
In a free market employees compete in terms of qualifications and competences while employers compete in the conditions they offer to their potential employees.

>Be me.
>Work harder than my co-workers.
>Can't negotiate my own wages with my employer.
>Can't move up the ladder until one of the brokedick oldfags retires.
>Brokedick oldfags do bare minimums, take 1-hour shits, nap in hidden nesting spots, generally just waste resources.
>Company gets sold to foreign entity.
>Buh-bye jobs.

At my job, there's no need to have a high production of work because the union protects the incompetent.
Since there's no risk of getting fired for being bad at the job, many people don't bother to try or care about the speed or quality of our work.

Reminds me of the example that Molymeme made with a public owned restaurant - The chefs get paid either way so they don't care if the food they make is garbage. Customer feedback is irrelevant - If anything, they would hate customers for showing up.

Ibew in Baltimore here,

Idk how it is across the rest of the country, but here you are allowed to negotiate your wages higher, the union wage is just the minimum.

Unions have some serious negatives, but workers outside of unions these days are seriously getting dicked hard by employers and need more protections of some sort

I agree with this 100%.

Oh no, no, no (WA here).

If it got out that you went into your foreman's office and tried to negotiate a higher wage (outside of the ladder wage), you'd end up with a pipe wrench "accidentally" landing on your head. Or a "slip and fall" malady on the manlift. Or an unfortunate "lock out/tag out" accident where a piece of machinery re-energized.

Pulp and paper mills are dangerous places.

Over here it's actually encouraged, hall encourages you to go get some certs and use them to bargain for yourself

No way would the unions actually seek to harm the employees they're supposed to protect.

Overall collectivizing results in fewer jobs. Benefits some greatly. And in general it violates the NAP so it can be opposed on that ground

Straight up communists m8
>“I demand a tea break”
If you need a union to help you keep a job, your job is probably shit and could be done by robots.

this is honestly all you need to know

Why are the new competitive laborers called "scabs"?

This, yeah it’s spot on
Non union jobs around me get you working like a dog for pennies

Fucking strikes and fucking unions, don't ever let unions and strikes UNPUNISHED, specially public services, make the army replace them.

Because the same people will go do your job for your company while your union is on strike for whatever reason, it’s shitty and basically says “hey boss, while your older hardworking employees who’ve worked for you for years are on strike for whatever reason, I’ll be here to replace them! So if you can find a legal way to can them, I’ll be right behind you for the sweet sweet greenbacks”

In theory they're good and they were definitely good originally, but corruption has made its way into the bigger ones. Still, I think something needs to fight back against larger corporations because all they care about is letting in third worlders to take your jobs and work for less. Your government doesn't care about you.

If you dont support unions youre 100% a blue pilled fox news boomer cuck. Just look into the history of unions and the kind of bullshit they had to fight for. Its just a matter of fact that employers and capitalists dont care about you and will try to fuck you over as much as they possibly can. Sure there can be corruption and thats shitty but being totally against unions means youre just going against your own interests.

>older hardworking employees who’ve worked for you for years are on strike for whatever reason,
when that reason is "communist brainwashing" and not actual grievances we need the scabs in a market

>Just look into the history of unions and the kind of bullshit they had to fight for.
ok? none of those were public unions, and the teachers are keeping everyone too dumb to tell the difference

OP didnt ask about public unions but nearly all of my family is in thd public sector and they are constantly shit on. If they cant bargin for wage increases like eveyone else theyll get left behind. My grandmother was actually physically threatened by her boss just for trying to join a teacher's union.

They had their purpose and helped out greatly, but now, they have to either reform or go.

Usually the unions based off a certain trade or skill do their job pretty effectively, since the entire organization is made up of those individuals.

If the business owners were ethical there would be no need for unions.
Greedy capitalist justifies need for workers to bring in Union. Saw it at Algonquin wire in Connecticut.
Now union can also turn into unethical organization s as well. Then you need to bring in the news teams and lawyers.
Bottom line is human corruption.
Goons on all sides exist. The employees need to have balls and they need to be smart.

>In theory they're good and they were definitely good originally, but corruption has made its way into the bigger ones.

There are few big ones left. Only about 8% of the labor force is part of a union right now (this chart only goes until 2002)

That's why tech workers are getting jewed over by things like H1B worker visas right and why wages have stagnated in most fields.

HA HA HA HA

That's a good one

In some form or another, unions have been a part of European history for centuries.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild

Jews have always had a grudge against unions/guilds. They worked hard to dismantle them over the last century under the pretext that it interfered with the free market.

Ive been on both sides of the fence.

Used to work in a right to work state in Texas in the oilfields, and now Im a Union member in the Maritime industry.

Unions are far superior. I hate libshits and Democrats (its not as if Demoshits have done fuck all for union workers in decades anyways), but unions are definitely the way to go if youre a worker of any sort, especially a blue collar worker. That being said, they do need massive reform and a purge of Commies in the leadership of SOME unions (not all).

The problem is in right to work states, especially in the oilfields, you have no fucking protection whatsoever. For example Ive seen MANY times where workers are forced to do illegal shit for the sake of productivity, the worker thinking he will gain favor in the company will gladly accept, only to be caught red handed and have the company claim they had no idea about it and fire the guy. Ive also seen overtime hours ignored, guys get fired just days after getting hired for no reason, supervisors treating workers like shit and breaking company policy, and all sorts of safety fuck-ups. None of this shit would fly in the Unions, and you can essentially tell any of these kikes trying to force you to do these things to go fuck themselves, quite literally.

Unions take a substantial amount of the headache off of corporate politics. No more having to kiss ass and play nice with assholes who hate you, no more getting scammed out of hours or pay, just do your job to the best of your abilities and youll be fine. Its very comfy.

Unions have done a hell of a lot more good in this country than bad, all things considered. If these companies and corporations werent such kikes or pieces of shit, wanting to enslave the entire world for pennies on the American workers dollar, then we wouldnt need Unions. But alas, thats not the case. It is these same corporations that constantly lobby for Globalist and Multicultural bullshit in Congress.

Are you a part of the Southwest Carpenter's Union? Also how much do you kick up in (((union dues)))?

>(its not as if Demoshits have done fuck all for union workers in decades anyways)
This. It's why the midwest went red during the presidential election. Instead of trying to get votes by sticking up for their constituents, they're fully on board with taking corporate money and letting in third worlders for easy votes and depressing wages.

Lazy incompetent fucks engaged in fraud.

There should be a minimum wage in the law and paying less than that should be a serious criminal offense. However, this minimum wage should be below the typical low-end job market equilibrium and only there to prevent outright exploitation and unfair competition. Coupled with a modest basic income and some sort of social security for the sick and disabled I think this would make the unions obsolete as far as the workers rights are concerned.

>Unions take a substantial amount of the headache off of corporate politics. No more having to kiss ass and play nice with assholes who hate you, no more getting scammed out of hours or pay, just do your job to the best of your abilities and youll be fine. Its very comfy.
This is what I hate about my company (non union of course). The only way to rise in this company is to kiss ass like a little fuckboy and I refuse to do that. I just want to do my job efficiently yet I always get passed over for promotions since I don't want to sit in the office trailer and act buddy-buddy with the superintendent. One of the highest paid guys here never works, but he's an extremely social extrovert who sucks up to bosses so he's had multiple promotions in 6 months of working here.

That shit happens in union jobs too. It's nothing unique.

Unions are great but you need actual labor laws that enable proper unions to exist.

If you have those they're such a great proposition that, in Sweden for example, doctors/lawyers are unionized.

I take it that Jews hated private unions but love public unions?
