Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., says he will be resigning from the Senate amid multiple accusations of sexual misconduct.
On Wednesday, about two-thirds of the Democrats in the Senate — including almost all of the women in the Senate Democratic Caucus — called for Franken to step down. Among those urging him to resign were the top three Democrats in the chamber — Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois and Sen. Patty Murray of Washington. Everything he's accused of is pretty far from assault. The photo with Tweeden was obviously a joke, he wasn't trying to rape her.
He was also under an ethics investigation that was not allowed to conclude, meaning anyone can come out of nowhere and accuse you and you're done. That's probably not a precedent we want to oust people that were voted in.
The Senators coming out yesterday was coordinated too, a decision was made to lower the boom on him to make an example to go after Moore, other Republican reps and eventually Trump.
