japan has no natural resources and they rely almost solely on exports. if you can't sustain a working population, this means each worker has to be even more productive.

what makes this even worse is now they have to compete against india, china, korea, brazil, and SEA countries for the same exports. imagine how much worse it would get if russia actually stays true to their word and focuses on technology rather than oil exports.
