guys?

sorry you must go to retro anime board for those

Ashita no Joe 2

a k i r a

GET WILD AND TOUGH

Zambot 3, did it way before le Eva.

LOVELY ANGELS

Retro anime is the fucking best

I wish we had one, it would be my main board.

I just want to say I would cradle Dezaki's balls in my mouth if he was alive and asked me to.

>Ashita no Joe
>Takarajima
>Ace wo Nerae
>Space Adventure Cobra
>Oniisama E
>Rose of Versailles

Fucking Legend.

My favourites from that era would be all the good proto-Ghibli stuff Miyazaki and Takahata had their hands in. Toei movies, Lupin III, WMT, Conan, Gauche and Nausicaa, and so on. I think that's the best of early anime, never been a Dezaki or Mushi Pro fan.

W-why 1985
I was born in 1987, is that not retro

Kei best girl.

What would a date with either of them be like?

Late 80s and onwards is relatively well-appreciated. Everyone loves Akira and Ghibli and Gainax.

Who /GalaxyExpress999/ here?

I enjoyed it but it is pretty boring. Loved the melancholic and depressing vibe each planet had to offer but Tetsuro falling for the same shit every time they landed somewhere new pissed me off a lot. Still worth watching.

Firefly and Mudgirl a best.

I hear the 1979 movie is the better part of the franchise, that true? I've never been fond of Rintaro as a director, but I hear it's his best work + it contains peak Kanada.

EXPLOSION(s)!

The series is better, but don't Marathon it, 3 episodes a day at most and breaks for days is OK

I'm a bit more forgiving for that sort of thing, it does get a little repetitive but I think that is kind of the point thematically.

I want to fuck Fujiko.

my man

Don't discredit the film completely by the way, but it's for after the series.

If you don't like the series by episode 10 skip to the movie, it's the whole plot condensed.

I've seen Urusei Yatsura, Galaxy Express 999 movie, and Dirty Pair.

>the movie spoiled the series for manga readers and TV series watches alike
Pretty hilarious, but how did anyone think that was acceptable though?

Should I watch Yamato or Harlock first?

I can't actually remember the year VOTOMs was released, but fuck it, it's retro enough for me.

Been watching Dougram, it's pretty good so far. Surprised I don't see it mentioned more.

muh sparkles

It came out in 1983, so it counts

I know it's not before 1985, but Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my favorite anime ever.

VOTOMS and Cobra are the two main older series I've watched, ultra comfy in their pure pulpishness

I've watched some Green Jacket but need to pick it up again

What should I watch after, based on my liking those three?

Dougram, Ashita no Joe, Future Boy Conan.

If you liked VOTOMS be sure to watch Dougram, which is it's predecessor, and Armor Hunter Mellowlink, which is an excellent spinoff of VOTOMS about Solid Snake.

All look sweet, might check out Dougram next so.

That Mellowlink gif looks lovely, is it done on a higher budget than VOTOMS?

OVAs are typically higher quality projects than TV productions.

Someone was doing some weekly Dougram rewatch thing on here a while ago. Not sure if they actually got through the whole show.

/ra/?

Green Jacket Lupin and Rose of Versailles are both some of my favorites.

lupin actually gets quite a bit of love, reference guide a kind user posted not too long ago

That's because anime older than 2 years has been talked about to death already and you can only recycle the same discussions so many times

This stands true even for anime that aired before the days of Sup Forums

Miime is too pure and aesthetic for this world.

That's not really true. It's more like old anime isn't very popular.

Good ol' mediocre dubs.

HEHE

HEHE

HEHE

HEHE

Calling Devilman's dub mediocre isn't doing it justice. It's one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever seen.

FUCKIN' A

GET DA FUCK OUTTA HERE

The best anime ever made.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG

0079 because it lifted my soul off from gravity.

obviously not.

oh wow that's my post. I fucking love Lupin and we usualy have decent threads.
>tfw the only good devilman dub that exists is the crossover with cyborg 009
we need more devilman animation...and Cyborg 009 No CGI shit though. They fucked over 009 with that trash.

thanks for posting it, I've been dropping it in any lupin threads I've seen to help people that might be intimidated by how much there is out

who?

well I had to do it since every damn thread has people always asking where to start.

Kei is lovely girl

Speed Racer

It has more death per episode than Game of Thrones. It has mystery. It has a protagonist with a clear and attainable goal. It has a love triangle between the protagonist, the strong and independent woman, and the obviously gay mechanic. And the creators were so progressive that they got around the law that prohibited the depiction of black characters in cartoons by giving the Racer family a pet chimp that, by all means and purposes, was the equal to its owners.

english dub theme is objectively better too.

SUCK ON THIS

Who knew cars exploded like that? Must be nuclear powered for them to blow up like that...

YUKE YUKE

YYH's art evolution is pretty interesting. My favorite stage all round was how everyhing looked in the Sensui arc.

>mecha
yeah no thanks. That shit puts me to sleep. Wish I could understand the appeal of giant robotic mech suits. Just find it incredibly boring. I can see how children may like it but as an adult, the concept is dumb and not that interesting. A lot of people say it's the story of the characters outside of the mechs but then I ask why not watch an anime that has interesting characters and stories with no mechs? Never got an answer.

>Never got an answer.
No, you just didn't like the answer. Seen plenty of people like before and it's always the same old routine.

>can see how children may like it but as an adult
>as an adult
>watching cartoons
pot, kettle etc

don't fall for obvious bait please user

great characters
great music
great drama

It was weird how at first the show was about how Marie Antoinette had trouble adjusting to her life in Versailles and there were episodes where she was basically the main character, but then in the later half she is basically forgotten until the very last episodes.

Well, I was a kid when I watched this.
To be fair, I can't fully explain why i cherish this series so much. Macross/Robotech was already airing and we had also Mazinger and other mech series going on, but I loved this one above them all.
Princess Rubina was my proto-waifu

>replying to bait

>having different opinions is bait
you are literally a child. He didn't even insult the people who do enjoy the genre. All he said was he doesn't enjoy it.

user you aren't allowed to not like mech shows or else it's trolling.

Riiiight.
I guess I'm still a kid for enjoying watching Mecha anime.

>Nobody knows about Cyborg 009

Fucking hurts man

Most people know the 2000 version. Which was great, but it's not the same as the original.
Though I admit I watched OG 009 much later.

Rose of Versailles is my favourite pre '85 show by far. Oscar is one of the most nuanced characters in anime, and I find her genuinely inspiring.

In terms of films, I love Angel's Egg for the visuals and the abstract story telling, but I'd probably rate Night on the Galactic railroad as my favourite movie from that era. I really should read the book one day, but I feel that a Japanese to English translation would probably suck all the life out the original prose.

Yamato. Matsumoto had idea's that Harlock would tie in as a sequel to Yamato, that never materialised, but in the Leijiverse, it makes more sense to watch Yamato as a near future show, and Harlock as a far future show.

So much would have changed in history if Oscar was real and Marie Antoniette had just accepted her gay feelings for her.

I really want to get into some 60's stuff but it's never translated all the way and I refuse to watch dubs.

Is Cyborg 009 finished? Know any finished 60's anime?

Pic related, wish it was complete.

Only three of those are good

Shit taste

Taiyou kagayaku chikyuu wo mamore!
Kagaku Ninja-tai, Gatchaman! Gatchaman!

Diskotek released all 26 eps of Dororo (1969), 1-13 of it is subbed on bakabt though.

Honestly ashita no joe's script is terrible

They cant through 10 seconds without saying Joe a few times

Hated it.
I hate all the depressive shits this dude did.
Fuck depressed noodle people with same faces.

Autism

André was my very first husbando.

>it was sad so I didn't like it

I liked the manga, will search.

TL groups have really dropped the ball on this

>pre-1985

Meh, it aired in 1986, it gets a pass.

youtube.com/watch?v=6piE4Md25m0

I want push Fujiko´s button and lauch my missile inside her.

>1985
Most of Sup Forums struggles to say they've seen over 50 shows from before 2005

This.
My favourite anime of all time.

damn

...

>Red
>Watch some of it

I've watched the entire red series so many times. I love it.

In what way do you find Oscar a good or nuanced character?

She's beautiful and I want to sound her dick!

Damn, there are anime Italy didn't get?

>Everyone is fat and ugly
>Girls were, dare I say it, not cute enough
Wew, anime was really bad pre-2007. Looks like edgy dogshit with shit animation.

Are talking shit about mai waifu

>pre-2007

Was the best, your just too young too appreciate it.
