Say what you will about Nagano but the man is one hell of a costume designer.
Lots of people are pissy about Nagano because he falls into the "pretentious author who thinks he's too good for anime" trope. Which is true to a certain extent. Unfortunately since Nagano is so obscure no one knows much factual evidence about him and his works and therefore most of the things written about him that started out as jokes ends up being the real thing and hurts his reputation considerably in the west. It's not like Miyazaki or Anno or Tomino shitposting where most of their works and interviews are easily accessible.
