Al Franken runs for President as a third party candidate.
The Democrats nominate their weakest candidate since McGovern when they bypass Sanders in favor of Kirsten Gillibrand.
Sanders endorses Franken over Gillibrand.
The final result? Trump wins re-election. He gets 45% of the vote, Gillibrand gets 38%, Franken gets 13%, others get 4%
The Dems run Shillary 2.0 who gets steamrolled by Trump.
If the dems don't nominate Sanders then they are finished beyond imaginable.
Gillibrand ran to the right on guns and immigration in 2006 and quickly abandoned both stances. It'll be hilarious when they think that 2020 voters will vote for her because of her stances in 2006, as she loses support due to her past views and her employment by Phillip Morris.
The 2020 Dem primaries will be a lot like their 1972 primaries. There'll be millions of Republicans who'll help guide their decision by voting for the weakest candidates in the running because Trump will be unopposed.
I'll bet Franken's resignation was a power play by those female senators more than anything eles. The Democrats will be forced to run another female, and she will lose by even more Hillary.

third parties combined to win 6% in the last election despite all the efforts of Sanders to get his supporters in line.
If he didn't endorse, there would have been many more votes for third parties.
