The anxiety/depression epidemic

In the modern world, it really feels like almost no one actually enjoys their lives. Granted, times have always been hard for people. But right now, it seems like almost everyone just feels this insane boredom, depression, anxiety and ennui about everything. People are anxious about everything because there's so much pressure to perform and on finances, and so much stimulation at all times. And people are depressed because there's not much to really believe in or live for anymore. I honestly think a lot of the more dramatic stuff happening today like antifa/alt-right clashes is just because people are bored and looking for something to do. People are getting anxious and full of rage due to the lack of any meaningful things to do

Most of our jobs don't even feel like substantial work, we know in our hearts that our jobs are mostly just useless and we only do it because we have to do something. The work we do today does not prefer the sense of tangible reward or progress that most work of the past has. There is no sense of community because preferring some people over others is now a sin.

Almost everyone is bored, depressed and full of anxious range and angst. Is there any way to fix this?

>Almost everyone is bored, depressed and full of anxious range and angst
Wonder why

>Women are forced into the work force and told to compete against men in an unnatural way, this stresses women out
>Men are told to compete against men for the attention of women who only care about their career or climbing the social ladder. This stresses men out

That's San Fran, right?

And also: pretty much everyone dreads waking up. It's one of the worst parts of the day. How fucked up is that? We have created a society where starting the day is horribly depressing and loathsome.

I hate waking up, because I know the start of my day is getting ready for work, then driving to work, then doing work. Don't get me wrong, working is not bad, I think a problem is that the work most of us actually DO is shitty and feels unimportant. A lot of people could lose their jobs and the economy might not be any worse off. Might even be better off because a ton of money is being thrown at useless positions like HR and a huge bureaucratic process for every company.

That's really the main problem, most people are just useless to society functioning, most of us just get in the way. Pretty much everyone feels useless and irrelevant.

if people would stop watching the MSM and invest their time in their communities. Being friends with their neighbors, having barbeques together and whatnot.

Our situation is that of identity politics gone awry. I think that most people in this country feel that being part of a certain group of people is necessary and they either cling to ideals without considering others or they feel left out by all parties/groups.

i try to embrace the attitude that everyone I meet is their own very unique person except for in the regard that they too, experience hardship of some kind. I dont feel as left out, and I feel like i live in a country with people worth standing beside (even though i know a lot of people arent).

I love mornings though, the day hasn't had a chance to ruin itself yet.

I feel you

>Is there any way to fix this?
kill social media and plant trees

Because nothing is giving many people meaning in their lives; the politics and Jewry on TV divides them at the dinner table, their consumer creature habits divide them in interests, they spend most of their free time consuming media escaping the real world. They're anxious about their future as our society seems to be collapsing on a civilization wide level, they may not be able to articulate who the culprits are but most non-boomers experience the anxiety. They've been sold a lie by the Capitalists that their lives can be fulfilled through mere material wealth and social status. When it's a hollow endeavor when they can't even relate to their own spouse or kids. And the Communists would have us destroy everything in order to replace it with, a desperate and violent nonsense society - where those who are worth saving, are enslaved to those who aren't. The family was the last domino to fall of our pre-existing existential system; we lost marriage, we lost art, we lost religion, we lost tradition, we lost beauty, we lost intimacy and we lost honesty. Now all we're left with is boredom; emptiness and nihilism. People aren't happy with this - and that's why the Right will rise. Because traditions are worth conserving, because meaning can't be found in a life without roots.

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces

Im just waiting for NASA to make a more flexible space suit and im gonna go to mars and wonder around with a camera attached to me until i die. Thats the next step for humanity. Interstellar suicide missions for science.

just take your pills goy you will be fine

I'm an honest-to-goodness social retard. I feel like my level of ambition and enthusiasm is far below the requirement for the society I am in. I've been thinking about how to solve the problem of somebody who doesn't want to do anything, and all I can keep coming up with is a Final Solution...

you are just a generic retarded pleb.

- no tribal/kin units of mutual trust/responsibility
- no religion/belief that life is all leading somewhere
- no evidence that you can exercise control over your circumstances except in trivial ways
- empty materialism everywhere
- news/social media continually inflaming/politicizing every possible thing
- internet/smartphones training people to be stimulation junkies
- pornography and junk food hijacking brain's reward center and making reality pale in comparison
- poor sleep habits disrupting circadian rhythms

But, you have to keep in mind that it's not like people have EVER really enjoyed life. The vast majority of human beings who have ever lived have been resentful, hate-filled peasants.

Maybe pre-agricultural hunter gatherers were happier because they didn't have the pressures of farming (and attendant overcrowding, diseases etc.) but even then, they probably weren't "happy," they probably were vaguely stressed-out blanks, like all wild animals.

Give your life meaning. Find a purpose. Human beings need to be fulfilled, and our Lives need Meaning and Purpose. Find yours, and you'll be happy.

TO answer your question, no, there is nothing that can be done about the state of the world. Furthermore, to make that your cause in life is to martyr your happiness for something you will never ever affect. Do you know any happy activists? Do you know people who read Twitter or Sup Forums and come away feeling enthusiastic about the world?

Since the dawn of time the world has always been an unfriendly and fucked-up place that didn't care about your happiness. Do you think early humans bitched about how "unfair" it was that saber-toothed tigers ate them? No, they saw the problem and figured out a solution. That's all you can ever do.

Turn your attentions inward, focus on being the best person you can be, and on lifting up the people around you —family and friends. Life is an adventure.

The more dopamine we release with more stimulated lives

the less our brains can value reward.

we have to do too much and get too much pleasure to actually value the things we get.

good post in a good thread breh
>happy
that shit is gay. I'm content sometimes but that's about it.

You answered your own question: Why are so many depressed ?
>Granted, times have always been hard for people.
People have nothing more to focus on that is utterly important such as survival, coherence of the family, God, etc.. Everything we do - literally every job, every freetime activity, every "political" activity, is nothing but replacement for activity that fulfills you, because you do it for the sake of a goal, not for the sake of doing it.
This led to a general attitude of no responsibility - which is why "left-" and "rightwing" politicians ... groups ... partisans ... will rather murder themselves rather than keeping society in check.
See the whole sexual revolution shit. Weimar republic.Practically most if not all Western societies.
Now how to solve the problem ? Well the easy copout is "accelerate the decline and build it up again". But this is mostly nothing but power fantasies. The truth is that to improve society, you improve yourself. Go to the Church, make yourself an acceptable human being by training your body and mind. Learn skills that are valuable, not (only) things that are mere "education" (I'm saying that as theoretical physicist), build a family and raise kids in a reasonable manner.
Because everything else - and I mean EVERYTHING else - will NOT lead to improvement. Especially involving violence. Now you might say "you're just saying that, because you have a position to lose and you're a fag", but you're wrong. Violence will cause the governments to crack down on you. Especially in nations such as mine, the system is practically built to prevent exactly that. Of course, when half of the population spergs out, that's a different story. But we're talking about you, about people considering themselves "redpilled" while masturbating to pedophile cartoons, that LARP as ebin Hitler while they're really just another flavor of subhuman.

Again: What can you do ? Get yourself and your life in check, and make the change to persistent

Everyone is fake as hell. Every word has to be carefully planned on social media or you'll be fired, lose your "friends" and end up in prison. No one is allowed to like anything anymore unless the media deems it appropriate. The modern connected age is a joke. I'm surprised there aren't mass suicides daily.

To add: Of course, some people simply have a vocation that exceeds "building a family", such as non-clergy celibacy or becoming priest or monk. Even then, everything I said holds true, except the family part, of course.

...

don't worry OP, i will destroy everything for you

even what we believe to be culture and tradition these days was created by corporate america

I've never really understood the whole depression thing, like all my life I guess I've just been able to step back slightly and realize just how lucky I am to live in such unlikely circumstances starting from my very existence and going all the way through the billions of innovations that we all take thorough advantage of daily. Sure I always want better and to see us move forward, but that has never skewed my perspective on just how far we've already come from nothing.

I set my alarm early to wake and enjoy those minutes knowing I still have time

Fuck off hippie

See diversity studies. Diversity causes everyone to turtle

>Almost everyone is bored, depressed and full of anxious range and angst. Is there any way to fix this?

Exercise, outdoorsmanship, and moving out of the city.

Status anxiety

De Botton lays out the causes of and solutions to status anxiety as follows:

Causes:

Lovelessness
Expectation
Meritocracy
Snobbery
Dependence

Solutions:

Philosophy
Art
Politics
Religion
Bohemianism

Why hippy ? He's entirely right, even though he's missing out on some things.

>society acts like a bunch of fucking Moloch worshipers
>why aren't we happy????
Fuck these people and fuck their happiness. Life is relatively cozy compared to the fires of Hell that await them.

People was depressed before social media and with a bunch of trees, our current problem it's overpopulation and the unknown chemical cocktail present in modern food.

I see it this way too. Realistically, many of us have this tendency to believe our "opposition" actively wakes up with the intention of plotting to undermine our own groups. As far as I'm aware, most people wake up and think about making ends meet, improving their own situation, and hoping and praying for a better future for them and their children. In that way, the left and right dictonomy is completely false because neither side actively advocates for any sort of real, tangible change in the economic landscape. Looked at from the top down, a strong economy would help in alleviating many social ills brought on by uncertainty about the future and the undue amount of stress the average person feels.

Many people loathe the baby boomers for having a strong economy and an "easy life", but few ask what created that situation. One answer would be the development and implemtation of the Interstate Highway system, which brought a great deal of wealth to the middle and lower classes. At this point, neither major party suggests something remotely like this, the closest thing I can think of being The Wall. However, that in itself is a useless endeavor because it doesn't really solve the underlying problems it claims to want to fix, and once it's completed generates no real wealth.

>Almost everyone is bored, depressed and full of anxious range and angst. Is there any way to fix this?

Sounds like a big fat projection to me. Im happy because I pursue goals that I judge as valueable to me such as being healthy, working out, pursuing romantic relationships and building my own businesses. Whenever I accomplish any of that, even just a good workout, I feel fantastic for the rest of they day.

Its all about your own appraoch to this nightmare world, because yes, in essence, there is a lot of bad things to say about it, but the only thing that you can control is yourself, so trying to control everyone else is a self-defeating purpose, because most people dont want to face the truth.

Find a job that you are passionate about even if it means earning less money in the long-term. You will find that your happiness and job satisfaction increases which in turn helps out your mood from feeling depressed or irrelevant to society to actually making a contribution to what you think is important for your own personal needs and society at large. If you have a office job that you find soul-crushing then you can always make yourself feel better by learning a trade, it is hard work using your hands and being physical but that it what our bodies are designed to do, and maybe you can regain some.of these ideals you feel you are lacking.

>waaaaa cars and surburbs and the modern world is boring!!!

Commutes, surbuban living, office jobs have been around since the 1950s. Sure, today they afford you the luxury of feeling like shit. People didn't have that luxury before because they didn't feel like shit, they lived like shit most of the time. The problem isn't the modern world and tech as we know it, it's the spirit of postmodernism and the lack of a national identity combined with a globalized economy and the extinction of religion and gender roles. You may not feel useful to society but do you think the random peasant milking cows or the factory worker knitting or fixing bolts felt important?
