That said, with the majority of average people getting this kind of message across is like walking on eggshells.
Get "too controversial" and they will retreat to their conditioning and discard everything you say as "hatespeech".
I have had some good results when talking to average people if I formulated everything as a concerned question.
For example: "Don't you remember that this society used to be safer? What do you think has changed?"
All said in a friendly, but concerned, tone.
