It makes sense in an accessibility sense. A good chunk of the fanbase has probably not touched or bothered with the 18+ version or think of it as "gross" or w/e buzzword they use to describe porn and would probably not have supported the kickstarter to begin with if it did include cat dicking. Probably the best and safest way to get as many of the normalfag fanbase to back it as possible.
Of course, that doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

Tricking people to invest (money or time) in a franchise/IP they wouldn't care about otherwise will only lead to important changes in the franchise to appeal to this new audience. - It will be distributed via Steam, which I don't know if allows pornographic content. Regardless, it would allow one under 18 to donate via the Kickstarter and receive the content, or something like that
- it will appeal to a larger audience
