It's about everybody's wet dream desu no wonder it surpassed Spirited Away
I dont know but i feel fucking depressed after watching it. I really wish I didnt.
Nah it's more than that
see
It's my fetish
Is this Keita Ai?
There is nothing special about the story which is just some shitty Japanese Rob Schneider movie with a meteor threat that doesn't explain how any of the time bullshit works so it can be used as a cheap plot device , it just has good art, animation, and music.
Almost.
a letdown imo (shinkai fan)
Blah blah it's already a thing.
Why do you like to be explained that much? I like this kind that let you fill in by yourself. And this movie let you do it in appropriate amont.
Why doesn't Mitsuha just kidnap Taki?
The first 60ish minutes are a 9.5/10 and then the last 40 minutes happen and you ask yourself: What in the name of god was this?
something you'll never experience
True, since I will never have such a great OST narrate my life.
freaky friday gave me a boner.
>Mitsuha and Taki will never have high school sex.
;_;
Funny thing is that they probably didnt even end up together. Shinkai said that after the ending they basically approached their relationship like you'd expect for people who dont know each other. Since they cant remember sharing their body swapping bond they probably came to the conclusion that they simply arent a good match and never went past dating.
I liked texhnolyze and haibane renmei. I guess its just anything with time that annoys me if no mechanisms or rules come along with it. Otherwise time can feel very convenient like how it was used in Erased.
that is very shinkai but it doesn't fit the story in this case
best to just leave the ending open like they did and leave it up to the audiences imaginations
What does the story matter? The reason both of them fell in love with one another was their bond. They can neither remember it, nor even experience it again. Its very likely for him to never end up being a couple to be honest. Just because you date someone it doesnt mean that you end up marrying them/engage in an actually relationship with them. They dont remember shit. In fact, due to the story being so slim in that regard we dont even know why the two of them even fell in love in the first place. We have to assume that it was because of their bond and secret which, as of the end, neither one remember. Which means that the reason for their love is gone. Had the movie done a better job at actually explaining what they like about each other then this wouldnt be an issue. But considering what Shinkai said and considering all the things we know, I think its more likely for them to never end up as a couple than it is that they do.
>Just because you date someone it doesnt mean that you end up marrying them/engage in an actually relationship with them.
Taki and his sempai whom he was pining for at the start was exactly like this.
>Had the movie done a better job at actually explaining what they like about each other then this wouldnt be an issue.
Personally, I thought it was similar to Midori no Hibi or Toradora: they have grown accustomed to each other that they feel like they can't find someone like the other if they got separated.
However, it's just as you said: it was exactly the bond forged through experience but was forgotten (or rather can't exactly remember). I chalk this up to Eastern/Asia ideology/mindset towards love: the mind might not remember but the heart does. On an unrelated topic, I think I saw a telenovela probably Korean with that premise: the heart of Girl A's boyfriend is transplanted to Girl B's boyfriend which then results into a love triangle because Girl B's boyfriend is torn between his mind telling him he should stick to Girl B while his "heart" dictates that it should be Girl A.
>tfw it was explained in the book that Mitsuha and Taki queued every bgm in their head.
>it's an anime version of Freaky Friday except its a girl and a guy. Its a generic body swap story
SPOILER RRRRREEEEEEEEEEE
Shinkai agrees with you.
literally first minute of the movie
I was saving myself for marriag- the Blu-ray release.
Dont even watch the movie unless you want your day ruined
I literally just finished this. The tears are still drying on my face. This is my new favorite Shinkai film.
I remember the first time I watched 5 Centimeters per Second, I cried like a baby. I was so lonely back then and it touched a nerve. Then I watched it again and liked it but never had the same visceral reaction. This one really started getting to me when I realized the entire town had been wiped out. I know it was kind of an unbelievable thing (although no more than the rest of the film) and it's been done before... but thinking about the Japanese earthquakes and disasters in general, if you could somehow go back in time and save your family... that's when I really got invested in the film and why the end was so emotional for me.
Plus, I'm really glad we finally got a Shinkai film with a happy romantic ending. It also just felt whole. A lot of his stuff has been super good but somehow seemed unfinished or was a short. This one hit the mark for me.
But dont you feel awful
No! It's the first Shinkai film that doesn't make me feel awful at the end. I mean... I feel a little awful... but if Shinkai wasn't trying to crush my soul with his theme of the distance between people I'd be worried he wasn't doing okay.
I mean awful in the sense that you'll never be a 14 year old japanese school girl
Stop meme-ing.
im not, dont you feel slightly depressed? Maybe you're not living the NEET life but this movie gave me that avatar effect
More like awful because I'll never get to bodyswap into a guy and get close to my cute senpai.
I dont get how people can not feel more awful after movies with happy endings than they do after stuff like Garden of Words. Youre left behind knowing that you will never experience something like this, that youve been out of high school for ages, that you will never meet anyone this connected to yourself. Makes me feel like fucking shit. Then again, all romance anime usually do because of that exact reason. Having been in about a dozen "relationships" I know how fucking awful actual humans are.
Yeah but you could literally say this about any other Shinkai movie so why this one?
You can and hopefully will have that, user. Not that, exactly, because I think there's maybe three people in the whole world who end up with someone they feel is their "soul mate" and even then, that's a lot of pressure and a pretty precarious place to be.
But I think most people have a decent chance of finding someone who can put up with their company and makes them feel good. And if not well there's always hug pillows, unconditional love from and for animals, and the glorious future of roboto girlfriendos.
Yeah i honestly want to die after watching this. I hope the feeling passes
The feeling will never pass until you get your shit together.
well that's not happening
fuck
>Sold out in Canada bell theater
Fuck me, I will never fucking see this and yet there are daily threads that tempt me to spoil myself everyday
it's out in 720p just fucking watch it before that happens
It's a decent flick, good even. Simple enough to get the normies in theaters, with an hint of the not-so-overused in the west japanese treatment of the supernatural but nothing you didn't see already ten thousand times and probably done better.
The only bad part in this is people still comparing this to Miyazaki, which is honest-to-god blasphemy.
>and Garden of Wors was better anyway
It was honestly the worst part. Cute at first, getting pretty boring at the third song, at the last I wanted to kill whoever chose the bands.
>normies
Feels bad. At least they got to have high school masturbation sessions.
Garden of Feet had a sorta romantic ending, as did the Place Promised in Our Early days.
I need Your Name 2 now
Shinkai makes it happen!
wtf user. Sparkle is literally inner monologues of Taki and Mitsuha struggled very hard to get hold of their memories.
>Shinkai
Has he ever done sequels before in the past?
>wtf
Shinkai has no sequel policy, but we might see Miyamizu Itzuha in his next movie if we are lucky enough.
i dont speak moon
we hold the japs to lower writing standards
well Pixar also had that kind of rule before but they change now so I hope someday Shinkai will do that too.
I'm saving my first time for the big theater which is apparently in April because theirs only 1 showing this month all the "special theaters" in Canada mainly Toronto are mass showing Red Turtle in prep for the oscars. God I hate Funi so much for not catering to hollywood to get this atleast nominated
It's funny because part of the reason they chose that style of music was specifically to help avoid Miyazaki comparisons. Like they were obsessive about that, and it didn't help at all.
I'd never want to watch movies with other people, all it takes is one person to ruin the whole thing
my. man.
NO. Absolutely not. That shit was mediocre you pleb.
I don't see movies unless I don't care whether they get ruined. If I actually care about a movie I won't see it.
I don't watch a lot of movies.
Then why do you care if you spoil yourself or not
I'm not that other poster, I just wanted to chime in because I'm desperately trying to avoid doing work.
I think the whole plot is really similiar to Eternal Sunshine though.
It's a deconstruction of pretty starry skies
The doujin potential.
the OST perfectly fit the visual tone and aesthetic
What would you do with a Your name sequel anyway? Show Taki and Mitsuha's dating and marriage? Their daughter body-swapping with a boy who lives elsewhere? I don't think it's really necessary to get one.
Yotsuha time to shine! I'm sure she's just as great as her sis.
>she body swaps with a boy and every morning the boy's little brother comes into the room and asks boy!Yotsuha why she likes touching his own peepee so much
The last 10? 20? minutes of the movie felt completely pointless.
Turkey should've woken up on the mountain, looked down onto the town and wondered what happened. Then Mitsubishi should've walked towards him and been like "sup its been 3 years do you remember me?"
And it could've just ended there. The ending wouldn't have even changed much.
>she swaps with Taki and Mitsuha wonders why he touches himself after waking up that morning
>was their bond.
what bond? there's no development to it
Looks like Miyazaki actually liked this anime but he said "this kind of thing I can't do it", yes fellows Shinkai won
Because memes.
Stop posting that because it's already a thing.
Threadly reminder that it has been made into a wiki, a fanfic, a fictionpress story, a manga, a meme, an anime preview, an anime episode, an honest-to-goodness anime movie that's Oscar considered, and a critically acclaimed box office success that's the highest grossing anime film of all time and approved by Shinzo Abe and Cool Japan, so stop talking about it.

>Jpop shit
I'll never understand this meme. Unless you're a fucking weeaboo it's impossible to like that garbage.
So... this?
I went to watch the movie with my father because you guys hyped it so much, I wanted to make him participate in my hobby for once.
5 minutes into the movie and the boy waking up as a girl fondled his breasts. I turned my face to the right to watch my father's reaction. He had this really sad and disappointed look on his face and asked me: "Why did you take me to watch one of those hentais of yours?".
He then proceeded to stand up and left the theatre. I couldn't even concentrate for the rest of the movie, shaken as I was by the feelings of shame.
So, thank you very much guys for making my relationship with my father ever worse than it already was.
>one kektai post triggered this much of memes
I hate Sup Forums sometimes.
hahahaha kill yourself
I feel sorry for your dad.
It doesn't look that good, it's not really distinguishable from tv anime except for purely technical qualities.
hey atleast after he finish his bussiness he cumming back right?

>Has become the no. 1 highest-grossing Japanese movie in China

>The film immediately topped Korea's box office opening on 555 screens all around the country which is a new record for the Japanese film.
>Also dominated China breaking the all-time records for the most advance tickets sold and the fastest film to reach 100 million yuan ($ 14 million or 1.7 billion yen), with the first 100 yuan earned in just the film's opening day.
>The film also dominated the charts of Hong Kong and Taiwan becoming the number 2 and top highest grossing Japanese film on the respective countries
>Inexplicably jumps 41% in the Japanese box office and climbs from 7th place to 3rd place in one week
>Still in the top 10 in the Japanese box office towards the beginning of 2017
>Now grossed US$331 million.
>Surpasses the box office gross of Spirited Away (US$289.1 million), making it the highest grossing anime film of all time.
>Is approved by Shinzo Abe and used by Cool Japan to spur tourism in Japan.
So this is meme magic. Not bad.
>unless you're a fucking weeaboo
Where do you think you are, crossboarder?
...
That was my reaction the first time I saw it too. I've been in an LDR for a year now, and the thought of abruptly losing contact with her and having no idea what's happened to her terrifies me, so the second half of the movie really fucked my shit up.
Will mods end up on suicide watch if Makoto Shinkai adapts this as his next film?
I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.
There's a huge difference between liking anime and manga and being a fucking retard.
Stop posting that because it's already a thing.
>tfw no Oscar for you

Makoto Shinkai finally gave us a happy ending, which must've been hard for my fellow allergic-to-happiness goddamn Jap.
