I serve in the military and I have some suspicions regarding that defector from North Korea who fled on November, 13th this year. There are some inconsistencies. Look:

The NK soldiers stop chasing him at something like 3:15 (although the timer seems a bit odd, stating that the road and escape itself took him just about 4 minutes). They stop chasing him because he was already wounded (he got shot 5 or 6 times) and because he is either on SK or neutral territory now. There he lays until SK soldiers rescue him. According to the time mark, this happens at 3:55 pm - 30 minutes after the chase stopped, though I found one source that stated he got rescued at night (hence switching to the infrared in the second part of the video provided) but that's not likely. All this time he was unconscious.
Here's where fun begins. This video: youtube.com/watch?&v=sFBQgFRmFUo shows (at 0:23) that he got hit on both hands and in the abdomen.Two thirds of war casualties are caused by hemorrhages from gunshots. Lethal blood loss from 1-2 direct hits occurs no more than 15-20 minutes later. He got some bullets in both of his hands and some in his abdomen. All this time he neither applied any tourniquets nor handled the wounds as he was unconscious. And even if he was conscious, there's no way he could've stopped the internal bleeding or stopped bleeding from arms because both of his arms were, well, crippled.

They used the thermal camera as it was easier to see him using those optics. Thermal can be used during the day also. If they didn't hit an artery it's easily possible to survive that long.

the bleeding thing is highly variable, there are a lot of internal mechanisms of the body that actually can fight off bleeding to death in that span of time. its a hit or miss sometimes, where you can have someone with severe injuries but minimal bleeding or someone with what looks like innocuous injuries that just fucking tank no matter what you do. based on his level of mal nutrition its possible there wasnt a lot of shit to actually damage that would cause sufficient level of bleeding to die in that speed, if his body is shit itll dramatically reduce function, especially limbs, to try and survive
injuries to extremities have a chance for that limb to actually clamp down and prevent blood supply from reaching it, meanwhile with the issue of internal bleeding from body shots depending where it is, the muscle and all that its possible for the body to act as its own pressure dressing up to a certain critical point
a lot of this is luck based though or getting hit at the right spot at the right time in the right place, it may sound suspicious but its nothing more than dumb luck in my opinion from what ive seen before

A hit to each of the hands. With either 7.62 or 5.45. There's no chance they DIDN'T hit the arteries at least somewhere. His wounded in his pelvis so internal bleeding played a part, too. Add to that that he was only retrieved from the site after 30 minutes. Even if first-responders were there, all they could do was stop limbs from bleeding, not the bleeding in his bowels. Anyway, that's 30 minutes+10-15 minutes which is far beyond survival point.

He could have been shot with underpowered/defective ammo. North Korean weapons and equipment are considered inferior to Combloc surplus in their military. It's no secret North Korean built equipment is crap and are often built out of spec. He could have been shot in non lethal areas. Keep in mind he was reported to be in critical condition for several days so he may have had trauma to one or more organs. I don't know about all organs but the liver can regrow itself under the right circumstances after taking physical damage.

Secondly when you are shot it's important to minimize blood loss so you are taught to be calm, or at least I was, the less quickly your heart beats the less blood you lose.
I've survived several hour long shootouts and cauterized the hole my self just to stop myself from bleeding out. Does it gix the internal bleeding? No but it minimizes blood loss until I can get airlifted to a hospital.

I would assume that being that close to the DMZ they have to have some sort of quick aid station geared towards severe injuries. You could reference the Golden Hour. If they got him blood and bandaged. Because of it being abdominal you should now you can't gauze it. You could stuff probably a hundred feet into the abdominal cavity and just fuck them up more. So most likely they got him blood or plasma quick before getting to the hospital or seriously fucking lucky.

You wont be able to make proper rifles or be able to shoot accurate, or have any proper training, most of current soldiers have never seen war and never trained outside their nation. I've thought about this a bit too. Imo they'd want to make it look realistic, and if they accidentally did kill him they would just try again with another "volunteer" later. But it's reckless and makes the North look weak, like their soldiers risk their lives to flee. Plus I doubt this guy is going to be doing anything besides sitting in a cell for a long time and being grilled by all sorts of interrogators.
