How the hell did she evolve from a 10/10 cutie to a fatass granny?

Is that the Christmas cake in Rahxephon?

Yes
Fatass granny? What?

I'm happy she won, wouldnt have it any other way

Amber.

Same, she waited 15 years to win the Ayato-bowl

Speaking of which I should few arch it soon, that Ed song is just hauntingly beautiful. Also any thoughts on preference on the anime vs movie?

Rewatch it, fucking autocorrect

Anime >>>> Movie. Movie is only good for Hemisphere

youtube.com/watch?v=2Og6erp5hTw

>Hemisphere
I meant Tune the Rainbow

>Christmas cake wins a -bowl
>mfw

Felt good, right? Felt real fucking good.

Movie has a more bittersweet ending, which I enjoyed but the anime was a more coherent story. Both are solid experiences and I recommend both, though anime first than movie. Also getting to watch 15 year old Haruka? pure diabeetus.

Why is this anime so underrated? I know it gets dismissed on the surface for being an NGE copy, but good lord I remember this way more fondly than neon genesis

The series, by far. The movie has like two good songs and that's about it. I will never get over Oshii trying to shit on RahXephon when he only watched the movie, that pisses me off so much.

rahxephon simply came out at a time when the market was being flooded with tons of NGE-like shows. Other great shows like Dual suffered the same fate.

Was this the most coherent ending Bones has ever done? So many of them sputter out at the end but I remember feeling satisfied when the last episode finished.

Rahxephon had an amazing soundtrack for sure.

Pretty much what said. It did not help that a lot of the dolem fights were very similar to some of the angels as well.

Exquisite tracks

anybody else lost it at Hirokos death scene? havent felt as helpless watching as that one in a long time

You could say her death was gut-wrenching

Maybe.

Tsumugi.

That whole episode was a goddamn tour-de-force

Yes, that episode was painful as fuck.

Anyone else notice Izubuchi seemed to be resuing some of the same devices in the space witch episode of 2199? They really didn't work as well there, it was a bit of a letdown.

>Tune the Rainbow
I had completely forgot how great some of this shows music actually was.

It's called "Blue Friend - Ticket To Nowhere"

Episode 19.

Do yourself a favor and watch it, even just as a once off. It's one of the best episodes of any anime ever, and I don't say that lightly.

For those who won't, The MC pulls a Shinji and runs away with one of the girls. Said girl tries to hide the fact that she's emotionally breaking down because--unbeknownst to her--she's basically the avatar of one of the big angel-like things that's attacking earth. She ironically sees the MC as the only thing stable in her life.

Said MC returns to piloting his mech in order to protect her; he finally has something worth fighting for.

He goes off to fight the thing his girl is the avatar for, and ends up killing it/her in a heart-wrenching scene where's he goes all shounen MC while the girl get brutally killed via proxy in her hotel room, all the while she's saying things like "I have something to tell you" "I love you" and "I'm sorry" which get televised to TVs, train station screens and the goddamned electrical grid through sheer emotion.

Watch it.

Titthime.

Did Haruka fuck Itsuki Kisaragi?

I guess it doesn't matter anyway since Kamina destroyed and rebuilt the world, so he was always with Haruka.

>telling people to skip 18 episodes of a series
>spoils the entire fucking episode
what was your endgame here bub?

gets me everytime, nothing comes close imo how this tragedy unfolded.

maybe he forgot to add spoilers?

>telling people to skip 18 episodes of a series
They're not missing much.

>spoils the entire fucking episode
Kinda hard to find online. A quick blurb on Sup Forums does it no justice. Hopefully it'll spur someone to search for it a bit better than me. It'll still be a rollercoaster.

If not, that's what were going on about.

lisp mama made my dick hard

The ED is indeed great.

youtube.com/watch?v=hVjz-791hy8&t=44m18s

That episode was indeed great. Definitely the best of the series.

This series doesn't get brought up much on here, but to me it's pretty special, still stands the test of time

absolutely worst girl in a decent show

OP was god tier

>Christmas cake wins
>The entire universe is reset and everything that happened in the entire series never happened then in the alternate universe were she's not a cake she "wins"

Is this the most deceptively terrible ending in all of anime? I think it is.

Watch the movie first, then watch the movie for the sex scene.

*anime first

pretty sure she did, but itsuki was a reincarnation of the MC in the manga so it doesnt really matter all that much

True, but while Eva turned into an endless clusterfuck that still lives today as kind of a zombie, RahXephon had the virtue to have a satisfying ending... and better characters, and soundtrack

very much this. nice discussing this series gentlemen

>fall in love with a smoking hot 16 year old
>have to settle for her 30 year old self when you're only like 18
>and now you're suddenly a father

seemed like a raw deal to me.

end of evangelion was far more memorable and satisfying and gripping to watch than the final 2 episodes of rahxephon were IMO

it's also the opinon of critics and audiences in general

Because it's a surface level copy of Evangelion. Why love the facsimile when you have the original? That's the general mindset of people, especially when you think about the proximity between EoE getting and when RahXephon started airing.

Can't believe I've been listening to the soundtrack for about 14 years now.
But if she didn't win, the world would never have been retuned and would have been fucked.

the track that keeps pulling me back in
youtube.com/watch?v=2Og6erp5hTw

Ah yes, the series that made me say "fuck no" to unfinished series for nearly a decade. Waiting about three weeks for the next ep to be subbed after #24 was a bit less than all fun and games.

And somehow Bones went form stuff like that and Wolf's Rain, to Eureka 7 etc.

Shameless bump

>But if she didn't win, the world would never have been retuned and would have been fucked.

Nah, Quon would simply have folded the human world into the murian one, instead of Ayato folding muria into ours.

Now if neither had gotten their thumb out of their arse, then we'd be back to quantum noise again.

...

...

...

...

And then this happened.

I only remember this show for the brown goddess.

Why is Hemisphere so fucking good bros?

wait what?

amazing, which site did they come from?

It's from Interlude, a single ep OVA or something.

Can't remember. File tags suggest it was back in 2004 though, so it's probably long gone anyway.

Every vocal track from Rahxephon is a solid 10/10.

HOLY.SHIT

can't believe I forgot about it

only dual started as a parody of eva, while rahxephon was typecast as a clone by retards

Were there ever any decent figures produced of the mechs in this show?

dunno, best to check yahoo auctions ラーゼフォン プラモデル

>Basically if Misato and Shinji actually ended up together at the end of Eva

I'll give it to this show for that

I mean there was Darker Than Black, and Space Dandy was quite consistent throughout

i cant even remember how it ended
it was so bland

Rahxephon and Fafner are basically two shows that took the two aspects of Eva (Abstract lol2deep4u and classic sci fi mecha adventure) and each did one of those aspects to the max and are more enjoyable than eva

Ayatollah and Quon were avatars for machine gods who could rebuild reality. They fought and the one with the stronger will to make the world what they want won and remade the world

Quon simply acted because she was content with her role and her performance. Ayato wanted to be with Haruka more than anything else which was why he kept painting the same damn thing the entire show

>and are more enjoyable than eva
Nope. Not even close, sorry. Wake me when anything at all in Rahxephon is as good as End of Evangelion. There is a reason people remember Eva but hardly anyone remembers Fafner or Rahxephon

One of the times I didn't like the cake.

I'd throw in Argento Soma. The central mystery about the aliens seeking out "the center" was pretty cool and I absolutely adored the ending, that wasn't all doom and gloom, but had a wonderfully uplifting message. Then the out of place seeming ending montage and how it all came together with a nice true science fiction twist at its core.

End Of Evangelion is literally pretty visuals and a nonsensical self masturbatury story. Stop letting the fact that it is one of the first anime you watched cloud your opinion. Evangelion itself is a half assess attempt at being subversive while not actually going too far and then throws any internal and external consistency out because of Anno's depression.

I am surprised that nobody has even mentioned Brave Raideen yet. If you are to compare Rahxephon to any other show, it would be Brave Raideen more so than NGE.

yeah, it came first. suck a dick eva faggot

but end of evangelion ruined evangelion

The ending to DtB was a fucking mess. If it weren't for the Gaidens that redeemed some of the plot, I doubt people would have remember it fondly.

I haven't finished Space Dandy whoops but I remember it being pretty episodic like Bebop. Not sure that's comparable to something that focuses on an overarching narrative.

Whoops, meant to quote

If I remember correctly it was stated in an old interview that the Rahxephon design was directly influenced by the original Raideen design.

Argento soma was leagues better then Rahxephon. Also the setting was really interesting as it was the upper midwest of the USA.

>Stop letting the fact that it is one of the first anime you watched cloud your opinion

I was watching anime before you were born, newfag. Stop trying to fit in.

I remember the plot being okay, but the characters were so boring. Everyone was paper thin.

Fafner is surprisingly popular in Japan though. There's a reason it just had a continuation and is getting another sequel soon.

Sure you were buddy. I bet you even cringe at CGI like a good boy too

>it's better because of the alternate ending movie tie-in
Wake me when anything in NGE itself is as good as >it's remembered more
You've been watching anime since before we were born and you still think this is ever a relevant argument about quality?

You simply cannot say that Rah has better characters. Eva is completely built upon its characters, it is a personality and relationships study.

They might not be as likeable, because they all are massively flawed. While in Rah you have the cute cake and her even cuter imouto and typical slightly dense yet brave MC, in Eva you have complex people with maybe a ittle bit too much drama.

I also wouldn't be so sure about the OST. Eva for the most part is tame in music, but it sometimes has great impact. The OP is a classic, and fly me to the moon fit the context perfectly.

Please keep this thread alive, Rahxephon discussions are rare as fuck.

find me a better cover than this
youtube.com/watch?v=LdmmIRQTlE4

Not him, but I think they've both got great characters in different veins, and I'd actually say that RahXephon is built on relationships more than NGE. NGE to me is more about the individuals - relationships are there as a theme, but that's really about the characters' anxieties and personal problems that relationships provoke. RahXephon is also character-driven, but in a more mundane/traditional sense, and I think the relationships are more central here as opposed to just a means to an end - I feel like it's more about exploring the backgrounds of the character's interactions and the way those play out (there's tons of jealousy and unrequited love and lost loved ones), rather than NGE's more introspective psychological stuff centering around the breakdowns.

>RahXephon had the virtue to have a satisfying ending
You must be joking. The lazy time gets rewritten so nothing that happened in the story really matters and everyone in the story is basically rewritten. It's trash and the worst kinda ending.

Hm, this kinda begs the question, if these series were to be released more further apart initially, would Rahxephon be given more recognition? or is the tag of NGE forever shadow an otherwise a great series? Both series has its strengths and weaknesses. one weakness i heard against rah was that it didn't hand hold its audience about story and therefore lost the general public

But does an anime really really need massively flawed characters in order to be considered good?

It would gain a little recognition, though a few more appearances on SRW to promote the show wouldn't hurt.

I feel that NGE is famous for the wrong reasons, mainly the viewers became obsessed with trying to analyze the themes and imagery of the show, or with the characters themselves.

hmm well lets consider this, say Rahxephon would to be released today, would it have a more larger following?
