I disagree, religious people regularly stand on it to push their political and moral ideas in the present.
The problem is that the majority of modern Christians don't actually care about their race, and they base their anti-racism on their understanding of Christianity. They claim all men are created equal in the eyes of God and that all life is precious etc.
As such it seems dishonest to artificially bracket religious views on one hand and racial/political views on the other, when in reality they almost always heavily overlap in critical ways.
