Does it fall with remote ease? You're white. Does the pencil require some shaking on your part? You're coloured. Does the pencil stay in your hair even after vigorous shaking? You're black.
Admittedly, some mediterranean people who are normally considered white may get a false positive, but it works pretty well otherwise.
