In short, you should be able to get citizenship, which is what you need to get a passport, quite easily assuming you speak russian and your parents are/used to be soviet or russian citizens.

The only good things i can think off: slightly better transportation (more roads and intersections were built, etc) and no more churka markets around metro stations and such (small shops/kiosks were banned). But other than that it's all the same shit, but way more gentrified and expensive.
