They were angsty teens like everyone else is at that age. They, like a lot of kids, thought that life revolves around high school, so they did what they perceived to be the most profound action anyone on earth could undertake.
What they didn’t realize is that everyone forgets everything about what happened in high school approximately 6 months afterward. They didn’t realize that the tutorial stage of life doesn’t even end until you’re at least 20; the difference between being a senior in high school and being 21 years old is exponentially different.
Their raging hormones ultimately got the best of them. Clearly these were evil people and probably would have grown up to be pieces of shit had they resisted the urge to go through with their actions that day, but I think the ultimate reason they did it is because they thought that high school is the most important thing in life and they weren’t satisfied with their experience.
