ITT: Series that used to be popular but are now dead in the water
Its funny because if she would have kept it closer to the shounen formula it probably wouldn't have declined so much. But then again the author is a woman, and shounens done by women are always a clusterfuck.
wait this is still going?
I still enjoy Magi a lot. Sucks how dead the threads are. I blame Sinbad.
>D.Gray-man
>Berserk
>Bastard!!
>Hunter x Hunter
Any other that were on their way to the top of the world but for some reasons fell down?
Well HxH and Berserk are plagued with hiatuses
Eh, Sinbad's shenanigans have been pretty run-of-the-mill Shounen affair to me. And it seems to have driven more fans away.
The threads on Sup Forums were at their most active during Alibaba's political and economic endeavours. But I can't remember the last time one has reached bump limit since Sinbad took the spotlight.
Sinbad was a mistake, should've stayed as background character
>To Love Ru ended
>Hayate soon ending
>Magi soon ending
>No new good series to replace them
mfw
To be honest I am really enjoying it. But I guess this is what happens when you don't follow the standard. I probably just have terrible taste.
Sinbad a shit. He cucked me out of seeing Alibaba's wedding and I want him dead for it.
It's sad what happened to this
Vinlands died down since farmland saga. Last chapter was great though
Tokyo ghouls died down a lot too
...
I wonder what's worse doujin namek or sports festival namek.
Also Hayate. The threads have been dead for years.
Came here to post that.
Oh, I still enjoy the series as well I think a lot of the criticisms against it right now are being somewhat overplayed. I think it's good that the heroes have been made to actually justify their stances against Sinbad, which in turn will flesh them out a bit.
I just haven't been satisfied with the answers Judar and Hakuryuu have given so far.
There are still good new manga. I think that Hatsukoi Zombie, Youkai Shoujo and Ghost Tits are pretty nice for some of the newer mangas.
Get a better taste user.
I'm okay with Judar's because he's not the sentimental or philosophical type but Hakuryuu's is underwhelming.
Then again, I really don't like Hakuryuu so maybe I'm a bit biased.
hiatuses will do that
>(OP)
(You)
>Manga gets an anime
>Anime goes to shit
>Manga stops being popular
I'm seeing a pattern here
Well, look at Kingdom. That had an CG anime adaptation and it was complete trash, and hasn't been animated again since. Yet, it's consitently up there in the top 5 best-selling manga annually.
>D.Gray-man
The mangaka went insane, probably a woman.
realistically speaking is hunter x hunter ever gona come back or are we done?
Indeed, especially with how strong the whole Greece arc was too
Didn't she injure her hand? Or am I thinking or someone else
SnK is pretty dead compared to what it used to be, probably a combination of the general autism of the fanbase and bad/incredibly dull plot developments
Akame was always shit and not all that deserving of the popularity it got, but watching it literally die overnight was amusing. Probably one of the more notable examples of author favouritism really hurting a series (though the timing of the anime didn't help either).
Nanatsu no Taizai has been slowly dying for a long time. You would think now that the big mysteries and backstories are being solved their would be some interest but after Escanor completely fucked the power scaling and sense of danger most of the cast just feel irrelevant and pointless to the story. Doesn't help that all the sense of adventure that made the first 100 chapters so good is pretty much gone.
She injured her hand and went insane at the same time. I assume the later came first.
Kingdom isn't popular on Sup Forums though.
I wonder why.
Is Mars roaches still popular?
Reread vinland recently and i actually really enjoy it, especially when thorfinn confronted canut. What harms the series is the monthly release schedule.
I think people dropped it during the Earth arc or probably just speed reading it cause its dull.
Part 3 probably got too weird for most people even the scanlator
>Then again, I really don't like Hakuryuu so maybe I'm a bit biased.
I don't like him all that much either desu. He's only tolerable when Judar is with him. I still hate how the author made everyone forgive him so easily after all the terrible shit he did.
I don't know if it was popular on Sup Forums, but it's pretty amazing how little people care about Inuyasha anymore considering how huge it used to be. It's pretty much failed to maintain cultural relevance like other completed action-adventure series like Dragonball, FMA, Fist of the North Star, or even Saint Seiya and Soul Eater. Even Rumiko's other manga like Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku seem to be talked about more.
>maintain cultural relevance
>Soul Eater
???
Soul Eater would have been perfect for this thread if it was still running.
People got tired of Inuyahsa at the end and honestly it's the reason I still haven't began reading a new Rumiko series.
>finally get invested in popular series that gets talked about
>absolutely love it and want to talk about it too
>the hype is dead and the threads struggle to stay alive now
>think back on all the threads I saw here and there and how I could've been a part of it if I hadn't put it off
Every time. Every damn time.
HxH fell down? Togashi has a hardcore base of supporters. When the volumes come out after years of hiatuses, they still sell around the same as Naruto's volumes. And even on Sup Forums, were you not here for the most recent threads reaching bump limits full of Hisoka and Chrollo posting?
You're right, that one was a bad choice on my end. I'd still say it's more popular than Inuyasha right now, which just show how little people care about it.
Fairy Tail
Sad about this one. Really liked it.
Nah, that's still popular. Everyone just agrees it's trash now, even the people who enjoy it. Unlike Bleach and Naruto which still have some legitimate supporters.
What a shame. I really liked Magi too, but it fell off hard after that giant flashback arc. And after the time skip, the whole Arabian Nights feel of the manga went straight out the window. Like another user said, Sinbad who used to be one of my favorite aspects of this series has done nothing but dragged it down.
At least the author dealt with the shipperfags, but by the time she did the series was already in a downward spiral.
This one too. I found it because of Sup Forums, but I just stopped reading this after the initial hype died down.
Mangaka should've made MC a loli like she originally planned.
>Sucks how dead the threads are.
You wanna know how many replies the last Magi thread got after the OP dumped the entire new chapter?
3
...
Yeah it's been shit ever since it went back to earth, Wondering if Japan still likes it.
oh yeah
it's fall off my radar
can you dump it back
It's not that Magi got less interesting for me it's just the threads got so bad there was no point in going in them anymore. That was during Alma Torran.
Zettai Karen Children lost purpose after they prevented the prophecy. Feels like filler these days.
The threads were worse right after the time skip. It was full of shipperfags spamming fan art and generally shitting up the thread. As soon as Alibaba and Morgiana got engaged, they fucked off back to tumblr. Though the threads were still fairly active after that. But now it's dead on here. It doesn't help that the author is constantly taking breaks which slows down the already slow as fuck pacing even more.
Did they prevent it? I remember reading it and that prophecy was basically the main driving force of the plot.
I feel like this is the winner. this shit was hooge with how much they merchandised it and people talking about it
now nothing at all. no books, no more spinoffs. do they even do pachinko or was that just a meme?
Yes, they prevented the prophecy after saving Yuuri from Gilliam at the end of the middle school arc. I actually liked the reveal of the whole deal with the prophecy, the explanation of the events thay lead to the bad end was satsfying and made sense. But they didn't replace it with anything and as an antagonist Gilliam is a fucking joke. At this point you're just reading to see if the romance goes somewhere but there is no mystery any more.
>He's only tolerable when Judar is with him.
This. I can enjoy their interactions but Hakuryuu on his own is boring as shit.
I haven't seen any threads in ages, probably because they've been dying so early.
Well, Magi was on a break last weak.
I haven't seen one in longer than that, I think. Guessing they just died pretty fast.
I could just check the archives but I'm too lazy.
Just fuck my shit up
It's not talked about much, which doesn't mean it doesn't have a bunch of readers. It doesn't generate much discussion because people either know roughly what will happen, or they don't know and want to avoid historical spoilers.
...
>and shounens done by women are always a clusterfuck.
FMA is great.
That's a lie
What's sadder? A good series that's somewhat known but never really hits mainstream success, or a series that reaches that success and is big but shortly after becomes forgotten.
A series that slowly kills off all of its characters can only expect fans to lose interest after their favorites are snuffed. It was only a matter of time before AgK hit a critical point.
>Nanatsu no Taizai has been slowly dying for a long time.
The first arc was really well put together, so much so that anything afterwards feels oddly tacked-on.
Kekkaishi too. Both good examples of shounen stories that were clearly plotted out beforehand, rather than written on the fly.
The latter, because it means that the series had the potential to be genuinely great. But that potential got squandered somewhere down the line.
I quite liked Kekkaishi. Season 2 never ever?
Also want Golden Kamuy adaptation because I find it hillarious.
Rumiko Takahashi's Manga
Full Metal Alchemist
...I really can't think of a bad shounen done by a woman.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn. It's also the one I hate the most.
Takahashi had hits and misses. Inuyasha's a good example of something that overstayed its welcome.
...
>The threads on Sup Forums were at their most active during Alibaba's political and economic endeavours.
Lies
During the edgebro's arc was the peak of popularity here
I remember when people spamming how baba got BTFO
Such a waste of good character design skills.
>During the edgebro's arc was the peak of popularity here
I'm talking in terms of the final arc.
Yet look at Baba now. He has it all.
Like pottery.
>A good series that's somewhat known but never really hits mainstream success
That's probably for the better. That way at least the author won't try to milk the cash cow and drag it on until it's a shadow of it's former self.
For a second I thought this guy had a golden schlong.
He's so special in the manga that he might as well have one.
Chillax
The current arc is extremely corny and like every other shounenshit
>muh rely on my friends
Magi is only cool out of all the other shounenshits because djinn equips designs are top tier
>I remember when people spamming how baba got BTFO
People were still doing that after the time skip saying that Hakuryuu cucked Baba. The author didn't help by trolling the readers with that line that Morgiana and Hakuryuu were "together".
Step aside.
You simply can't fall from grace harder than Rozen Maiden did.
It was obvious that was a troll. If anyone was disappointed it's because they set themselves up for it.
Anyone who thought Morgiana would be with the guy who killed the man she loves was being retarded.
They always give too much freedom to the female artists when it comes to art and story. It slowly becames full fujo. That happened with D.Gray-man and Reborn and many other.
>It slowly becames full fujo.
Nah, if you give too much freedom to authors like Tanabe, it becomes and ossan-fest.
I thought it was ok when it was just a plain gag series, then it kind of got its act together during the Varia arc then decided to ruin itself with the Future arc. At least Amano can draw to make up for her inability to write
Magi's full of male/female relationships, though.
I only watched the anime back then. What happened?
That only made it all the more satisfying when those retards got permanently BTFO.
Magi's female fanservice is more hardcore than a lot of the stuff guys draw.
iirc Reborn is the longest series by a female author in Shonen Jump history. Also helped they raked in the fujo dollar in tandem with PoT
D.Gray-man's problem is that the more hiatuses it goes on the more fujo it becomes
I think Ohtaka must swing both ways.
If it wasnt for those desu posting, i wouldnt even have tried watching this.
I feel old as fuck now, dunno what even happened in the manga. Was Junk still junk and who was the father.
It's really a shame about DGM. It used to be the best shonen by a female author back then. Yes better than FMA.
Amano's got good art, but she really needs to let someone else write stuff. She's pretty formulaic in that Reborn and elDLIVE share a lot of similarities and it pains me that her Miracle Jump one-shot about the bum detective didn't get picked up. Her other one from Jump a few years back about the Dream Buster was cute, but at the same time didn't seem to know if it was a comedy or straight battle romance
Can;t wait for her next work if that's the case.
I wouldn't rule it out. Though in general I think people have an advantage when drawing the same sex as their own. Being able to do your own poses and look in a mirror beats searching for reference photos.
Ohtaka drew the most perfect girl so I love her for it.
