bump

Cute girls

Money and a strategic postition i guess.

hong kong was less important than the other terms in the Opium Wars. it basically opened up chinese markets and producers to British markets and consumers. beforehand, the qing chinese taxed the shit out of british imports and exports, and after britain came along and won a quick war, parliament made china allow western trade and by proxy, let the west influence china. hong kong was just a nice, convienient trade port for the anglo

In all seriousness. Won after the opium wars. Even after the lucrative opium trade ended it was till and important trade and strategic location in the far east.

My gf is from Hong Kong

go away

>was till and important trade and strategic location in the far east.

because of its access to china like this user said?

It should have remained in British hands.
The people actually want to go back to british rule.
They hate the mainland chinese who are coming in. They refer to them as a swarm of locusts.

It was a important port city in the 19th century.

Ditch the slut and get yourself a straight male bromance happening. Guy on guy sex all the way.

ok, but you didn't answer my question

did it still serve any purposes for the british in the 20th century? or was it just dead weight for them before HK was handed over?

>Money

how, can you explain more? did they exploit the population?

yes and to the rest of the far east

why did you deny them democracy?

the city will go to shit in the next 15 years. the commies in Beijing have completely conquered it. used to be a respectable city.

Brits sold opium and exported chinese porselein etc. In a way they introduced drugs to the populance i guess. But this was in the 18th century. Look up "Opium Wars".

...

why did they deny hong kongers democracy?

also, why didn't Mao conquer HK when he won the civil war? what was the advantage of leaving HK a british colony for a couple more decades?

A trading post that opened up a market in what has, for many thousands of years, been one of the world's biggest consumers/producers.

It was a gateway to China.
>Hence why the French and Portuguese also had small colonies right next to Hong Kong

>the commies in Beijing have completely conquered it.

you mean britain was bound by treaty to return it

yeah...that's what i thought. but given china's isolationist policy after the civil war, i dunno why they just didn't reclaim HK outright

they tried to expand inwards. It didn't work so they just stuck with hong kong and make some sterlings for the yearly report.

>What did the british get out of hong kong being a colony exactly?
ease of access for their heroin biz

>Even after the lucrative opium trade ended
as a burger it's funny to hear this from you, considering how much of our nation is brought to it's knees because of opiates today

by chinese heroin and fentanyl and other rcs
funny how that works huh

...

Lots of Chinese sideways bagina.

Hong Kong is pretty nice. Much more civilized than mainland china. The best mix between the west and east.

Because democracies only work if white, land owning men have the ability to vote.

well, HK's actually becoming less relevant as other chinese port cities like shanghai and shenzhen rise in prominence. it actually relies on capital inflow from the mainland to keep itself economically afloat

hmm...yeah. so do you think it's actually best for china for them not to become a democracy?

well hong kongs biggest asset isn't its port but the fact that it isn't fully china.
Not a big fan of the Chinese government but still better than becoming democratic.

In the early days a trading port from which we could export Chinese goods (mainly tea)

Over time it developed into a major financial centre in East-Asia, being about as important as Singapore or Tokyo.

Because muh democracy is just a meme used to get a population to support a war when it suits. It's not the cause for wars, just a marketing campaign for them.

>well hong kongs biggest asset isn't its port but the fact that it isn't fully china.
i disagree. HK's economy is declining while the rest of china is booming

>Not a big fan of the Chinese government but still better than becoming democratic.
why?

>Because muh democracy is just a meme used to get a population to support a war when it suits. It's not the cause for wars, just a marketing campaign for them.

sorry, i don't understand. you didn't give them democracy because you didn't feel the need to galvanize them for war?

>why?
because I like them and don't want them to de civilize themselves with with the cancer that is democracy.

I have lived in China for years. They can't handle democracy. To be fair; white women, niggers, spics, poos, can't either.

We in the West take logical thinking for granted. It has been with us since ancient Greece thousands of years ago. Chinese never had these mental toolsets until very recently. Their decision making skills are extremely limited and usually extremely against most logic. Chinese take a very long time to make a decision, and then right before its time to execute, they completely change the course of action.

Much like Logic, democracy was invented by White men of the West. Therefore it would make sense democracy is only for White men of the West.

Hmm you might be thinking of China

yeah, this makes sense. how do you feel about the US exporting the democratic model wherever it can in the world? is it a waste of time and resources do you think?

how do you not know your own history? they were never a democracy, only a territory ruled by britain

what's wrong with democracy?

another thought that struck me. why did you ask for hong kong and not shanghai? HK was a fishing village at the time while shanghai has traditionally been the most important port into china

China’s economy is built on an infrastructure bubble that’s floating on sub par manufacturing.

Everyone in China knows the bubbles going to pop and that’s why rich Chinese are funneling out money through Macau.

They have fucking ghost cities capable of having 1.5 million people and NO ONE lives there

Remember the Falklands?

Just a useless geographic expansion china don't need it ,it is just about sovereignty

>what's wrong with democracy?

The average person is stupid, a woman, and a person of color. Representative government is fine - as long as it represents white male property holders who can pass a simple general knowledge test.

Of course waste of time and resources. The US has been focusing hard on Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) for the past 10 years. This will be the next region to "gain democracy" aka Islamists take control. Simply to put a torn in China and Russias side. Mark my words, five years from now these countries will have their own "Arab Spring".

i asked for redpills, not CNN propaganda

no, what about them?

Pretty much everything.
Mob rule. De-civilization. Increasing of time preferences. Competition of racketeers.

>Muh Ghost cities meme
It's called planning for the Future. The former Ghost city of Ordos is now full. China is much more advanced than you realize, you should be shitting yourself since you're American.

so why is the gov't trying to export it everywhere in the world? isn't that a waste of taxpayer money?

ur retarded
id kill for a British Aryan QT
and you just go an marry a chink??????
YOU SUCK

so anyways, from a german perspective, why do you think britain asked for HK that was nothing but a fishing village instead of shanghai, the traditional port into china? doesn't make sense tbqh

Chinks would've suffered a faster defeat than the argies against the brits and possibly lose the 99 year lease treaty

How does it feel knowing you'll never have a tall blonde qt gf with a cute accent and grey-blue eyes?

Love mine, she's so submissive and maternal.

M3 too!

Well not a lot but RN the hong kong chinks want to stay being in a colony or what ever because they think it means they are better than main landers that is what I've gathered from observing their posts.

France claimed Shanghai.
Germany claimed Qingdao.
Japan claimed Manchukuo.
Portugal claimed Macau.
UK Claimed Hong Kong.
Italy claimed Tianjin.
Russia claimed Shenyang.

sucky sucky fucky fucky

Can't weak for others but I got my wife.

oh i see, so it was the only piece of the pie left. so now everything back in china's control?

>British Aryan QT

yeah but there was supposed to be a 50 year period in which hong kong was essentially independent

Hong Kong was the last to turn over power. So yes. Chinese people hold a "great shame" over this time period since they were the "sick man of Asia". Historically China has been the center of the world, so them getting beaten that badly was a huge shock to them.

It still has. It stops having that higher autonomy in 2047.

What the UK were supposed to return after 100 years were the New Territories of Hong Kong, not the rest.

in theory, yes. the reality is the communist party in Beijing has been slowly strengthening their grip on HK.
theguardian.com/world/2017/mar/21/hong-kong-china-authoritarian-democracy-one-country-two-systems

in such a short period of time too. like right before the opium wars, china ruled a 1/3 of the world's population and had the largest economy and land based empire. but then again, didn't all the nations basically gang up on china?

Dumb ricemixer

i don't think it's independent per-se. the region was ruled by a british governor, with locals only allowing to serve in the gov't in the late '70s. china agreed to keep that system in place for the first 50 years, with the british governor replaced by a chinese governor under terms agreed with thatcher. but hong konger's are still upset 'cause the govenor's chinese i guess

>but hong konger's are still upset 'cause the govenor's chinese i guess
Hongkongers are fucking fags.

Gook pussy.

/thread

Amen

i get the feeling that it's more so about them not being special anymore. i dunno, you'd have to ask one

no they have an election for the "Chief Executive" aka the governor/mayor. the catch is... all the candidates have to be approved by Beijing.

Cucked like you read about.

>China’s economy is built on an infrastructure bubble that’s floating on sub par manufacturing.

Doom porn clowns were saying the same thing in the early 2010s.

None of these people have money invested in the markets, they just bitch and moan. Volatility is normal and to be expected.
