The thing that's great about FLCL is that you can enjoy it on a surface level for just stupid action and over the top characters or you can go all anime detective and get into the symbolism and greater universe.

The best way to watch FLCL was to be 12 years old and stay up late on a school night to catch it on adult swim. If this wasn't how you watched it you didn't get the full experience.
Every time I rewatch it now it takes me back to that time when I was just like Naota and I can feel everything in the show so vividly. Every character has an anologue in my life at the time. It's like looking through an old yearbook for me.
The last time I rewatched it was with a group and I had to force myself not to cry.
