Everyone keeps claiming how wonderful Mawaru Penguindrum is. I had it downloaded for more than two years now and finally decided it's time I watch this supposed masterpiece.
And I am disappointed as fuck. Is this only about 3deep5u pretentious shit, garbage humor, incest and shitty romance, artsy shit without any substance?
Someone explain to me why this anime is called a masterpiece. As far as I am concerned it is so trashy I can't be bothered to finish it.
Jose Nguyen
WELCOME TO ROCK N ROLL NIGHT
Aaron Rogers
Finish the show fucboi.
Jeremiah Rogers
Just finish it. The show just goes full circle when you finish it.
Jonathan Allen
Why should I finish it? I dropped it still at the beginning so I'd have to suffer through several hours of that shit. Give me a reason why it will be worth it.
Cameron Long
Because the show only comes together in the end. There's a lot that goes on that you need to piece back together.
I have fucking diagrams explaining shit for slower viewers. It's good. It's one of the greatest love stories ever told and one of the only ones that isn't romantic.
If you don't want to put in the time that's on you, but it's a really good show.
Elijah Sanchez
>Someone explain to me why this anime is called a masterpiece. As far as I am concerned it is so trashy I can't be bothered to finish it. I don't think it's a masterpiece either, but you should at least finish it so you can better say what you don't like about it.
Gavin Garcia
You probably haven't seen Utena or Night on the Galactic Railroad
Jayden Robinson
>incest What about watch it first.
Jose Bennett
Because it's a story about children who are hurting and how people are dealing with a horrible disaster
Julian Baker
>buzzwords shit buzzwords shitty buzzwords shit >tell me why I should finish it Yeah no, fuck off.
Jayden Stewart
You are correct. I actually downloaded Utena once but never even finished the first episode so I decided to deliete it and gve it an other go when I feel more like it.
Yeah because brother and sister kissing totally isn't incest.
Sounds very boring.
Leo Thomas
>deliete underage plz go and stay go
David Martinez
I didn't like it either but like that other user said, you'd better watch it to the end if you want to criticize it. Otherwise drop it, it's probably not going to get better for you. But don't expect anyone to take seriously your critics over a show that you dropped a few episodes in.
Logan Sanders
>Yeah because brother and sister kissing totally isn't incest.
They aren't really brother and sister, that's why he said that. But why assume you don't know everything already, amirite?
Nobody cares about the opinion of somebody who couldn't even finish the first episode of Utena. Fuck off.
Jacob Foster
Just watch it for the cute pingus
Caleb Brooks
Not sure why the i moved from give to delete but what you are doing is literally pic related.
Brandon Russell
just finished this last year in april
things go downhill fast, would have been better with only 12 episodes, kyosou giga and jinrui wa are better
flip flopper tier
Jayden Gutierrez
I will admit the presentation can be improved. I was very disappointed the first time I saw it, and felt it could be amazing and only felt it was decent due to many flaws.
However, on rewatch, I just thought to myself "How the fuck did I think that? This show really isn't confusing at all and the concepts and story is easy to follow" and felt it was a masterpiece.
Luis Mitchell
It was clearly too long. The 12 episodes format would have worked way better.
Chase Lee
>flip flopper tier Too far.
Dylan Thomas
>Sounds very boring.
It's based on a fictionalized version of the Aum Shinrikyo sarin attacks
Jayden Watson
My issue isn't that the show is complicated or anything. I am just not particularly interested in mediocre humor, a stupid teen's ramblings about god and fate and a boring story.
Visually it is nice and it also has some decent music but what I care about the most are characters and story. Both are pretty weak.
Brody Ramirez
Have you tried Naruto? I think you'd like it.
Alexander Kelly
Yes, I actually tried Naruto once. It's shit.
Okay, so to summarize this thread: >just watch it for no reason >it's a masterpiece for no reason >you don't like it? waah waah you must be a kid
So I take it I have to edit pic related to include Mawaru Penguindrum?
Noah Lopez
OK, the ending was great, but it was just too dragged out with way to many decisions pulled from nowhere to force drama.
>we are family >these are my brothers >actually no >one of them gets stalked by some girl >it's actually his sister >seems like my parents are terrorists, completely forgot
Well maybe not Flip Flappers tier because it ended great wasn't an entire trainwreck .
Ayden Scott
done
I am still open minded and willing to change my opinion when someone actually gives a good reason instead of just trying to insult me for not liking their favorite anime.
Jordan Robinson
The reason nobody is debating you is because the show is very reliant on misleading the viewer and some major twists in the second half, and trying to actually discuss why it works would spoil the living fuck out of it. The show does pick up and the awkward bits like take on different meanings later in the show if you actually stick through it, as mentioned earlier the "incest" is actually a big clue that the family's life depicted in episode 1 isn't anything close to the reality of the situation. It's not a masterpiece by any means but it's a very good show that's way better than you're giving it credit for, enjoyable for the rollercoaster of a narrative, strong visuals and themes it presents.
But if you're disinterested in the premise itself then don't bother. Especially if you couldn't sit through a single fucking episode of Utena and would rather spend your time making bait pics.
Jayden Gonzalez
Nobody cares what you do. This is not reddit.
Blake Morgan
Thanks, that's more like it.
Ryan Cox
This. The show becomes amazing due to what happens later on in the series, but if we tell you why, it'll spoil what happens and you won't enjoy those twists.
If you don't want to watch it, that's fine. But don't complain that it's shit if you haven't seen it yet and aren't willing to watch it.
Austin Moore
nice spoonfeeding nerds
Brandon Phillips
Like all of Ikuhara's works, Penguindrum is a critique of Japanese society, specifically how the Japanese perceive family and ambition.
It's a story about an unconventional family who are cursed by society for simply existing are forced to chose between their love for eachother or seeking power and revenge against the society that damned them.
The humour is done for the sake of character building and is often saying more than it initially appears to.
It's an Ikuhara anime, so you shouldn't expect to understand every little detail of it until you've sat through it multiple times.
Josiah Diaz
These are the kinds of replies I wanted. Now I think I understand the general purpose and structure of the anime. Alright, I will continue for now and hope you faggots are right.
Xavier Morales
Go away, ANN. Ikuhara anime do not have symbolic mumbo jumbo and Penguindrum was just plain bad unironicallly.
Gavin White
epic....
Connor Lopez
wat a fag
Lincoln Hall
gay bears was better
Adrian Hughes
Post diagrams please. I finished the show and remember being slightly confused.
Joshua Smith
Yurikuma was more straight forward and it kinda worked in its favor.
Matthew Gonzalez
SKU>MP>>>>YKA
Even Ikuhara knows he fucked up with Yuri Kuma since he never seems to talk about it.
Isaiah Garcia
true
Gavin Bennett
Utena>Penguin>YKA
Eli Murphy
An other one I dropped. Maybe this kind of anime just isn't for me.
I only want entertainment and great characters, not some "social critique" or whatever.
I just have nothing to gain from this kind of thing. None of the philosophy or deeper meanings I have encountered in anime and beyond were interesting. I already have a clear and well thought out world view. This pseudo intellectualism does not entertain me.
Gabriel Powell
Are you certain your world view is logically consistent while at the same time applicable to beings that are not yourself?
Xavier Campbell
I think my world view is a rational one so it should be logically consistent. To the second part, these rational thoughts certainly should be applicable to more than just myself.
Owen Davis
just watch naruto or dragon ball, dude
Jack Sanchez
No. I dislike both.
Isaiah Russell
pure ideology
Elijah Sanders
What do you mean? Are you trying to say I am an idealist? If so you are very far from the truth.
Gavin Cox
>Because the show only comes together in the end. LOL CAGES
Ian Sanchez
Doesn't get good until it gets past the slog that is Ringo's arc
Lucas Collins
really needed another cour for fleshing out imo
Elijah Martin
The Ringo's arc is the only good part of the show. Ringo was both a disgusting human being and endearing and the show wasn't shy of showing how disgusting she was while at the same time humanizing her
Brayden Ross
>disgusting human being
Did we watch the same show? She wanted to force herself into a relationship with a man she did not care for in order to save her family, which had splintered after the death of her sister. After realising the folly of this she dedicated herself to Shoma, Kanba and Himari, even going as far as sacrificing herself for them.
Ringo did NOTHING wrong.
Jason Turner
Ringo was really in love of Tabuki, or at least she thought so, but it was a twisted feeling mixed with Elektra complex and yearning for a past she never lived. Behind the gags, the Ringo's arc is very sad and in some way the gags made it even sadder because it emphasize how delluded Ringo is.
Hunter Morgan
I don't even know why anyone is even bothering to give you a reason to continue finishing it. If anime that makes you think, even just a little, aren't for you then no love lost. You couldn't even be assed to finish Utena.
Go back to watching Naruto or SAO.
Nicholas Cook
>I already have a clear and well thought out world view. >not interested shows that are a critique or exploration on another culture
Jason Nelson
>Someone explain to me why this anime is called a masterpiece. As far as I am concerned it is so trashy I can't be bothered to finish it. Someone find this guy the chart explaining all the sub plots. This is a show you have to re-watch in small batches. Likje 3 episodes and "WTF?" and then a 2nd time around it will make sense. And then a 3rd time for the whole thing with the guide.
Lucas Parker
>>not interested shows that are a critique or exploration on another culture Okay, go ahead, what does Mawaru Penguindrum teach you? Or any anime at all. Or even manga, ln, vn, everything. I am talking about something philosophical or world view changing so mahjong and stuff like that doesn't count.
Can you come up with even a single good and interesting thing judged by me?
If not you have no right to shittalk my position.
Funny how the people who love MP so much are obsessed with Naruto.
Lucas Morris
...
Tyler White
>Ringo was really in love of Tabuki, or at least she thought so What makes you think this? She pretty clearly never care for him romantically, all she was trying to do was play out the diary her sister had written in order to make her family whole again. She never once said she loved him seriously, and always talked about this "need" to fulfill the diary.
Carson Adams
FABULOUS
Dominic Adams
So that is all you could come up with? Sad.
Thomas Robinson
7 more days until curry day
Kayden Morris
I agree that MP is shit, but you convey your point in such a retarded way that I don't even want to agree with you OP.
Parker Ramirez
holy

Rest in pepperoni post Sup Forums implosion era Sup Forums. You were the best.
Angel Peterson
I just noped at the end, couldn't watch it past 22 episode. Still don't know why.
Landon Rodriguez
Penguindrum was alright. Had rape for humor but it also depends on how much you like feminine-like anime. The shows gives you a mosaic of events to the plot and every episode ends with resolution or a cliffhanger that "thinkens" the plot and then the end ties it up with explanation. If you don't like dramatic teenagers then this isn't for you, simple as that.
Also if you'd like to try a show that is "philosophical" Kino no Tabi is getting another season after 13 years and you might be more interested in a series that changes its setting every episode to prove a straightforward point instead of a show where every episode contributes to a large finale(since you've mentioned wasting hours). Maybe you just have different tastes, safe travels user.
Brody Cruz
Show* Thickens the plot* My bad
Carson Hernandez
I think this anime really hit home for me when I realized that the reason the princess of the crystal sent Kanba and Shouma after Ringo, was because she was looking for an apple.
The worst possible place to stop.
Evan Barnes
I fucking loved Utena but found Penguindrum underwhelming. Actually enjoyed YKA more (not as much as Utena), but I wouldn't say it was better than Penguindrum, especially not the start of Penguindrum which was where it was the strongest for me. Show overall didn't grab me, though. I'll be rewatching it one of these decades, might enjoy it more a second time.
Christopher Collins
Why life Sup Forums? Someone kill me please
Isaiah Baker
>Someone explain to me why this anime is called a masterpiece Because anime fans' standards are insanely low. The fact that some of the animes most unanimously lauded on Sup Forums are Eva (postmodernist bullshit soup) and Madoka (pretty much the Matrix of anime) should tell you a lot.
Jaxson Turner
Don't drag LoGH into this faggot Call it slow, call it boring, but don't fucking say it's "2deep" that's just fucking daft. Trollfaggot.
Jordan Hill
>I am still open minded and willing to change my opinion If you were you'd be watching the show and actually trying to follow it instead of making a shitty troll thread on Sup Forums.
