Video Gaming Disorder to be made an actual disorder in 2018

"The World Health Organization plans to make "Video Gaming Disorder" an actual addiction-related disorder under the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 2018."

I remember many threads on here debating the effect of chronic gaming on future generations. It does seem like your fears have come true...

However, in my opinion, video game addiction should not get its own label. It simply is an addiction to a pleasing stimulus, much like drugs, booze, or even food. It shouldn't get its own label, because like any addiction in can be overcome with therapy and support groups. I don't think it's particularly special or unique to other addictions.

Are video games themselves the problem? No. Not when they can be played in moderation.

I think this has become a problem because people are using video games to fill a void they have in their lives. Perhaps they feel unmotivated to continue in a world where everything seems to be against them (men especially). I definately see the MGTOW movement using video games as a way to fullfill their lives because they gave up on women for example.

Do I blame people for an addiction to video games? Absolutely not. When humans are in mental anguish, or they feel unfulfilled, they often rely on an outside stimlulus to feel happy. When you need more of that source of happiness, it becomes an addcition. I wouldn't blame someone with this addiction.

I simply blame the modern world for being so out of place that it seems like giving up is the only option.

tl;dr Video game addiction shouln't get its own category, and I feel people need to get motivated again to have it not be an addcition. Occasional gaming is fine in my opinion, as I also like video games, but to become addicited to them 24/7 is awful and people like that need help.

What does Sup Forums think about this new disorder?

So Sup Forums, now that we got the infor, what disorder has to be memed into their meme handbook

>stop doing fun things in your spare time and work for me and my kids 24/7 until I decide to divorce you and make you my slave forever - the post

>Cutting off your dick is so brave!
>Playing too much videogames is a mental disorder
>2017

>tl;dr Video game addiction shouln't get its own category, and I feel people need to get motivated again to have it not be an addcition.

While I agree, most people, especially politicians, are always looking for the next boogeyman they can use to feel morally offended or to accrue more votes. They will tackle the problem and not the cause, which is standard procedure for politics in the modern age unfortunately.

Did you even bother reading my post?

I have an opposite "problem".
Played a lot of games at 15-23
Currently 27, any game that i try just bores me to death. And i've tried to switch genres, look into some serious wargaming or other sims, nope...

Last nerdy thing that i do is listen to audiobooks while coding...

...

I dont understand whats wrong with video games, back in the day lads played card games and chess.

Now people play video games.

"Addiction" is kind of a shitty label. Simply because it equates it with substance abuse which have actual addictive chemicals.
Being a lazy cunt =/= being a junkie

Yep. People just lazy.
That's why videogame streaming like twitch and youtube are booming.
People are so lazy that they can't be bothered to even play games themselves.

I agree to some extent, however certain behaviour can lead to addiction simply because your mind refuses to change the pattern of your day to day life. Make sense?

They should take all forms of escapism away until we fix the West.

tpbp

Then isn't having a routine addiction?

Ive been playing the vidya since I was 3 years old.

Nowadays I don't play as much due to work and having a kid but when I do it's a great way to escape reality even just for a little while.

The modern culture of online gaming and all the streamer bullshit is probably whats making a bad impact on people.

>disorder
gibs nao

Could I get some gibs for this?

I don't even play games I just find it hilarious this got to be an actual disorder over social media and phone addiction which surprise, surprise, women use a lot.

>Why are you playing with children's toys
>t. Wives, girlfriends, boomers, normal adults

WHO also made being single a disorder or something but nobody gave a fuck

I think it's just impact of new technologies.
And people starting to observe the new "norm" and calling it a disorder.
How many papers were written about "TV" disorder when every family got a TV and dads started to waste all available free time to watch some shit on TV?

Because people would play cards and chess when they were bored and had nothing better to do.

Now days all losers want to do is play video games instead of doing fun things like getting pussy.

Checked. Now that drugs, prostitution, slavery, corpse dancing plagues etc are behind us we need to tackle the video gaming industry.

t. Jews

Call of shit ruined gaming. Streamerfags and the rest of the youtube e-celeb brigade made gaming not fun for me. Furthermore, you have the playthroughfags that allow you to experience the game without having to do all the word. It's like watching a shitty movie.

I enjoy playing against bots more than online people - it's just fun to do, and I dont have to worry about online issues, or listening to somebody blasting rap, or some kid acting like a little shit.. that sort of thing..
I enjoy a good campaign as well, but, sadly, campaigns don't matter as much anymore.. there are exceptions though, like From Software titles

Reminds me a lot of Ozu's Good Morning. People probably thought the same about television but I think it's just a bit of a double standard women can get away with gossiping on mobile phones or social media all day while men get labeled as having an addiction if they spend more than a couple hours playing online games.

>"The World Health Organization plans to make "Video Gaming Disorder" an actual addiction-related disorder under the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 2018."
I have a disorder, good.
Are there any benefits I can collect for my disorder? I need buy some shit.

If not then fuck off WHO

Social media addiction is a thing too.

videogame AI work in general gone into shitter.
At the time when FEAR was released they invested a lot of resources in good AI. It was at the end of singleplayer era. FEAR still has one of the best AIs. 0.5-1.5 years after FEAR release internet got better and everyone just stopped giving a fuck about single player bots or campaigns.

true, but let us get some fiat from them and normies first.
who is a sham. wait a sec, i have seen millions die from swine flu few years back, i retract my statement.

>Are video games themselves the problem?
Yes. Just like porn and drugs, it is a source of degeneration. Nobody wants to do the work of making sure autistic man children don't succumb to fucking up society with thier new addicting NEET lifestyle.

Most jewish thing I’ve read all day
>good goy, make sure to have random meaningless sex. If you don’t you’re a loser!

>Nerve Attenuation Syndrome
Wheres the fucking research??

I think the whole point was that video games were disrupting lives, and people would spend 12+ hours a day gaming.
Social media I feel is the same way, yet it's not classified when in my opinion, it's more severe. Have any of you seen neglectful parents, for example, not care for their families because they were on social media all day? Or all these teens/young adults glued to their phones and posting literally everything they do because they want attention and likes?
Hell, even the guy who cofounded Facebook said Facebook was bad for this generation's mental health.

But I feel the reason that it isn't classified as a disorder (yet) is because social media is seen as a way to communicate, unlike video games where it's an escaping mechanism.

people do not fuck up society - those who claim to work in their best interest do.

>videogames are mental disorder
>homosexuality isn't
stupid fucks

>muh vidya addiction meme
Sup Forums is full of pathetic gen x losers who dont actually understand the effect of being raised on constant unsupervised internet usage

Overindulgence is the problem, full stop.

This is the decadent society Uncle Adolf warned about, but no one listened.

I spend 12+ hours a day online all the time. It's just as bad, if not worse. If I get the job that I'm going for, I'll basically have to work 50 hour weeks, and intend to spend the remainder of the time playing video games or doing something creative. Anything other than raising a family (ewww)

As it stands, I'm a part-time wagecuck. I blame my boomer parents - god damn they fucked up my life

25 here, games tend to bore me too. I still play them though. It makes me feel less of a man when I play them. But I have no social life or friends, what else am I suppose to do? I have started working out though.

Worry about your own life and stay the fuck out of others.

Yes, and if you ever break your routine against your will and know what that feels like, it is much like withdrawl.

Oh dear, you can't read English can you?
I never said anything about interfering with the lives of others, I simply stated that video game addcition is now a mental disorder and I recommended not letting it become an addiction by being motivated to do other things.

Learn to read, and stop embarassing yourself.

>cricket on TV
>partner working night shift
>have to look after my baby whiles she’s asleep

All I want to do is smash Destiny 2 with my friends who have more time than me, but cricket is preferred, partner brings home 6 figures, I love being a Dad and my mates are online playing other games.

I need to chill but still, I’d play D2 for hours by myself

>world health organization

literally who

Here's the thing though.
I DO NOT think it's an addcition in your case.
What I call addiction, is when it's 12+ hours gaming, not even taking care of yourself etc.

If it's simply a few hours to relax, then it is in no way addiction.

I currently play Injustice 2, and random games on Steam to relax after work, or on the weekends myself.

...

Great
Where is my neetbux for having a disorder

For me i think "boredom" stems from whisper at the back of your mind: "you wasting your time, you can do something more intresting and productive" aspect.
When i have free time now i do 3 things:
>Read some political news and geopolitics
>Read some good books (currently reading Napoleon Bonaparte: A life, and planning to read War and Peace later to have a full perspective on Franco-Russian conflict)
>Read about "cutting edge" stuff in my sphere of work.

this is an attack on the indie dev scene in light of the AAA industry getting raped by the market they are replacing with casuals
videogames being a massive propaganda medium moulding youth

You say that, but as a call of duty YouTube shitter. I dont give a fuck because I make about 4k a month from 10 hours of work a week from ads alone, let alone the patreon and sponsorsed endorsements that means I don't actually need to work a real job.

So I'll Thank the autistic man children that watch people play videogames and talk about random crap.

it's escapism, not addiction

pisses me the FUCK off that's what it feels like

american/10 post

Why porn wasn't included though? I'm pretty sure it is addictive to more people than video games. Since the reward for sex is alot higher than just accomplishing menial tasks on a silly vidya game.

I'm in the same boat, Boris. Gaming used to be my life in my early twenties, now I can't even get into new games. I find myself playing all the old games I loved and hating it cause I already know everything that happens. Did I just move on from the hobby or what?

This. These people are a fucking joke.

What backwords fucking world do we live in now that audiobooks are considered nerdy but coding not?

I fucking hate the 2010s
Thanks for ruining tech, normies.

Same. I was obsessed with games as far back as I can remember. I started on NES and the 16-bit systems. The jump from SNES to PS1 was amazing.

By the 7th gen, I started getting into console modding and homebrew and stopped playing games as much. I burned out near the end of the PS3/X360 era. I've tried getting back into it from many angles. It has largely grown tiresome.

It's a joke about the acronym, clipped your hair on the way over your head

The hobby moved on from you, games have turned into shit for most part. I only play /tg/ shit now, plus you can have actual social gathering doing those games.

o fuck i played myself

AAA publishers are making casual games. And niche games have shitty UIs and love to abandon projects without even finishing them. In the end we have shitty games from all sides.
The same "casualization" of the market happened with anime. moe moe school girl shit everywhere.
And even fantasy for the last 5 years is
invaded by a fucking SJWs and have simplistic,
anime-level plots, absolute_drivel\10.
Out fantasy books that i still read, both series were written by a fucking Phd of psychology and some guy that trained as anthropologist and archaeologist. They at least have something of substance to add to their works.

At least real world drama with Trump, Nationalists and US-Russia "conflict" are pretty entertaining with shit flinging and whining about "MUH EVUL NAZIS" by MSM.

Which fantasy do you read that was written by a Phd in Psychology? It sounds interesting, but then again I'm biased because psychology is my life.

what if this just jews tactics to get white men join army for incoming wars?

>not pictured: 400,000 spent AA batteries

New ideas are created to clear the air of stagnation, but stagnation always wins in the end.

Consumer media has become bland and repetitive. It earned its place with the masses by doing the opposite of what it now is. Can it be helped? I mean fuck, Disney owns pretty much every IP made since 1910 now, right?

Reality is far more entertaining at the end of the day.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Nothing
Error by me. PhD in philosophy, not psychology.
It's a great peace of literary work anyway.

*piece :\
I need to go to sleep. it's 5 am here...

I will recommend a book that's one of my personal favourites before you sleep.
The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. It's a beautiful fantasy written bout a travelling circus with a dark side, and an impossible romance. :)

...

So what then? just diagnose someone with VGD and tell them to git gud?

Can I get autism bux for playing my migus?

Meanwhile being a tranny or fag isnt illness

What you do in your free time is a disorder, but a man thinking he's a woman and you calling him out for his bullshit could land you in jail in a certain state. What a world.

Classic. Having a hobby is a mental illness nowadays.

On a more fair note, people can have problems playing video games, but that is true of any object that is desirable. Fact of the matter is that the modern world leaves a man unfulfilled and the women don't help either. I would argue they meditate before gaming. You don't have to adhere to what others want 24/7. You're not a whore, but do have respect and dignity.

If you want to play 24/7 that's up to you. If you feel like you need to change, then change. I played video games like a fiend growing up because it allowed me to do something other than homework, tv, and chores. I wanted to go explore the world and learn from my own mistakes, instead I got to be indoctrinated with bullshit peppered with real knowledge. Almost any practical knowledge I am aware of I found out for myself. My whole life I am pressured to do this and do that and am ensured a comfortable life. Long story short, I should have done what I wanted instead of what others told me what I should be doing, that includes my father, who is a good man.

i hope so

>display area not maxed out

I loved doing Pathfinder until I lost my group. I think that's the problem, in tabletop games, the person with the best imagination wins. In vidya, it's always the same cookie cutter shit we've seen time and time again. I had so much fun coming up with ridiculous actions in tg.

sorry just that migu game character reminded me of someone else

>clown cunt of weak shitposting
What a waste of doubles

VIRGENS! VIRGENS! VIRGENS!
>HABE BEEN SPOKEN TOO!

>meme flag

Yea... I don't want to remember her fate.

Video games can be therapeutic though. Persona 5 helped me through my mom's death. The scene where Futaba reconciled with Wakaba hit me especially hard.

If you don't enjoy video games anymore you should try the last game you'll ever play.
Eve Online.

Unfortunately you'll have to give up everything else in your life for this second life bullshit.

Dunking nerds and making grown men angry enough to throw things is very entertaining.

It also has a really high skillcap and that keeps the normies out.

>listening to anything a namefag has to say
>implying

AWWWW HI FRIEND! :D

No problem! ^_^

Sex is for making babies.

Why would (((they))) want to push for gaming to become a disorder?
So they can push more (((pharmaceuticals))) and (((therapy))) on people?

Only game to ever get my adrenaline going for 3 hours straight.
