about the publications thing, it's actually easy as fuck to get anything published. there's a shitload of medium publishers that'll take practically anything. it's just the popular sci-fi publishers you have to stay away from, they have SJWs controlling what gets through and what doesn't.

Kinda, yes, he was from a fully assimilated family, so we consider him Polish. He also wrote only in Polish. On the other hand writers like Singer were exclusively Jewish, plus Singer wrote in Yiddish. Generally speaking the language one uses is the most important factor in Central Europe. We were a multiculti kingdom centuries ago, so the matter of ethnicity is kinda complicated here, eg. some Jews are Polish national heroes, like Berek Joselewicz. Another example - the most far-right Polish political party before ww2 was called The National Radical Camp and its main ideologues had German surnames: Rossman and Mosdorf (the latter died in Auschwitz, btw). OK, generally Latin American culture has this strong leftist inclination, but there are still many extremely important right-wing/conservative thinkers, like Davila or de Oliveira (I would even say that Revolution and Counter-revolution by de Oliveira is a must read for all conservatives). Yes, there was also free love etc. If I remember correctly, the author was a nam veteran and it was supposed to be an anti-militarist critique of sensless violence, eg. when they massacre first bases of Taurans (I'm not sure if this is the oryginal term, I only know the Polish translation), there are some very far undertones of Paragraph 22, eg. when space beraucracy may screw one's life by sending his lover to other "time" (you know what I mean). BTW, first I bought the comic book that was published here in the late '80s, the novel was translated only several years later, still, that comic book is also well done. I also think that Haldeman criticized Heinlain's Starship Troopers, there was also some similar anti-Heinlains book with Hellers undertones about some space marine who is stuck in a technological loop-hole, so he has to participate in endless landing operations. There was clearly some anti-Heinlainist reaction at that time.
Also - if you like that trope with astronauts returning to unrecognizable Earth you should try Lem's Return from the Stars. That trope was earlier used by L. R. Hubbard (yes, that one) in his To the Stars.

Well, Lem also uses many linguistic inventions and he is translated into languages like Japanese. It's hard but not impossible. I think that the main problem with Dukaj is that he writes a lot about historiosophy related to our local context, eg. Lód would be very "alien" for Western readers. Also I cannot imagine Russians reading Xavras Wyżryn, kek. Dukaj's sci-fi will be translated, sooner or later, he only needs some impulse, like some computer RPG based on that fantasy book Other Songs where they live in a world ruled by Aristotelian physics, this would popularise his works. That short movie by Baginski based on The Cathedral is not enough and it may be seen as too religious by "normies".

What I also really liked is that (as I am a molecular biologist) that some of the strange 'processes' going on in the Solaris ocean do strongly remind me of the stuff that is going on in a living cell. An endless, inhumanely complex and chaotic interplay between creation and destruction of fragile processes and structures ... like a boiling sea of biochemical possibilities.
