I'm about to watch the original Dragon Ball for the first time. Is Goku any more likable here? I hate him in Z, Super, etc. Shit father, shit husband, endangers the world more than any of the villaina do.

ye

It's definitely better than post-Raditz Dragon Ball

In OS he's just a silly country bumpkin kid who's characterized by his ignorance and innocence.

Kid Goku is the best Goku. Gt kid goku is shit of course.

His stupidity is actually hilarious rather than annoying in the original series, and he's brutal as fuck towards his enemies at times, unlike Z where he suddenly refuses to kill mass murderers.

Kid Goku has a heart of gold.

He stop killing after training at Kami's. Must have really mellowed him out

yes

He also spank Bulma's vagina.

Bejita, cucked by a 14 years old boy.

Goku is great until he trains with Kami.

Dragon Ball is 1000 times better than Z

Actually, he was 12; he just didn't know how to count when he said he was 14

He's pretty great in the Piccolo Jr. arc too what with all the cocky stunts he pulls, but then he goes full retard against Raditz.

The Buu saga reminds me a lot of the original Dragon Ball for some reason, it may be because Tori had full control of the story in those two (not sure about OG DB)

Are you stoned? You better be.

The first 50 or so episodes of Dragon Ball is the best of the whole series. It started to turn into tournament arcs and a lot of filler after that since the fans only cared about fighting. And DBZ just made it even worse.

krillin based in this show too

>2017
>Hasn't watched the original Dragon Ball
Are you 7 ?

It's crazy how serious DBZ got; the original series was silly as fuck.
The entire android/cell saga basically happened because a manlet just couldn't accept his stature.

Smug Krillin is best Krillin
Why did Toriyama stop making him so smug?

Amerifats have all only seen Z and not the original.

>Is Goku any more likable here? I hate him in Z, Super, etc. Shit father, shit husband, endangers the world more than any of the villaina do.
This is a really dumb meme but in any case you'll understand him better because he is a country bumpkin with no idea how society works

It went back to being silly, it never went fully serious like Freezer or Cell. Also Gohan finally growing up felt great

He still had his moments.

>Also Gohan finally growing up felt great
Honestly, grown up Gohan never looked or felt quite right to me. In my mind, he's still a totally different character.

Very little to be smug about anymore.

That's Toriyama's fault, not the character.

this

...

He got best girl though and fucked best slut.

That's right, Lunch/Launch just completely disappeared... And she was actually a decent character. Amazing how someone could just forget a character. then again Toriyama has probably drawn thousands of characters.

>And she was actually a decent character
Launch was a gimmick character straight out of Dr. Slump

Does all this but still is an amazing guy with a loving family

...

It might make you salty over superior pairing not happening.

>Toriyama has probably drawn thousands of characters
>And all of them look the same

Why the fuck would you watch Z before the original DB?

Here in Murrica we got Z first.

wut first what? Not before DB certainly

Buu saga is what it should have progressed to. It had a perfect balance of seriousness, and silliness. We didn't have anything like a fight where a candy ball wrecks the villan or gotenks techniques since the last world martial arts tournament in Dragonball.

Yes before DB

>Why did Toriyama stop making him so smug?
Because he was overshadowed by multiple aliens who could kill him in an instant. He was only smug before because he thought he was the strongest person of Earth.

Then when he gets some pussy later on, he becomes smug again.

The vast majority of people in the Americas (both USA and other countries) got Dragon Ball Z on TV first. That was their exposure to it if not their first anime show period. Dragon Ball could only be found on DVD for years. And I still don't remember seeing it airing on US TV.

I feel so bad when i see kid goku, i had all the manga and a friend borrowed them, cut the relationship and probably sold them.
Such a dear piece of nostalgia lost forever.

>"bad father" meme.
You're watching fucking DBZ, eat shit stupid and stop listening to Sup Forums trolls.

DB tried to come out before DBZ, but got cancelled due to low ratings. They had to edit the shit out of it too because it's full of lewdness and killing.

>Yes before DB

Wait... they aired DB Z before DB? Like, they started midway, with the characters dropped out of nowhere?
Someone on the TV channel management board actually thought this was a good idea?
None of you guys found this strange?

>Mom mailed me the First season of Dragonball on DVD for christmas 2003

Literally my favorite gift I've ever gotten

It fucking worked, didn't it? And yeah I thought it was weird, but I eventually learned enough about the characters through Z that I didn't care all that much.

>Wait... they aired DB Z before DB? Like, they started midway, with the characters dropped out of nowhere?
They started with the first DBZ Arc. Which is basically the time jump to adult Goku. Aka 'what does the scouter say about his power level' arc.

>Someone on the TV channel management board actually thought this was a good idea?
These are the same idiots who thought cutting out 3/4 of Sailor Moon and CardCaptor Sakura and airing it with massive changes was a good idea. They didn't care at all about maintaining the shows integrity. Only about making money. And they thought their audience was just 10 year olds who couldn't tell the difference. Sadly, most couldn't.

>None of you guys found this strange?
Anyone who actually knew about anime besides what they watched on TV knew it was strange and hated it. It is what led to people watching fansubbed anime rather than dubs.

>murrica

Really I didn't know that DB was even a thing until I was watching the cell games and saw a trailer for DB.

I... I had no fucking idea this happened somewhere in the world. I've always thought everyone knew kid goku even back then...
You guys have some bad luck with TV.

I mean, no one really batted an eye, there wasnt much introduction but if you werent retarded you could get most of what was going on.
>goku is the strongest guy on earth
>hes actually an alien
>he has a kid
>his brother takes his kid
>he dies
>dragonballs grant wishes so they'll use that to being him back to life
To be fair pretty much everything relevant to DBZ is retreaded.

I had a front row seat for The Simpsons in its prime, I'm not going to complain.

The only thing that made me fell like I missed something was Piccolo's relationship with everyone. I didn't know that he had a dad thing, I just assumed that he fought them in the past.

it actually turned out to be a great idea, considering that DB flopped like hell before they ever showed DBZ

In your country, does pornography come in the basic cable package?

Well even then thats not really important either. Once you could garner that he's a bad guy they fought in the past that's all that really relevant.

My memory sucks, but I can remember watching DB when I was young. In those days it would not have been on the net, it for sure was not DVD either, so it must have been TV.

>DB flopped
Damn, even back then american kids had bad taste.

That shit was a fucking religion in Europe. There were times when 4 (four) episodes were airing per day (2 + 2 repeats), all days of the week, including weekends. We skipped classes to watch the episode even though it would repeat later in the day.
Heck, even the local voice actors got famous. Shit was on the news.

It did when I was 16. Now? I have no idea, I stopped watching TV 10 years ago.

They showed a few episodes but it was cancelled quickly.

Here in the UK it went
DBZ > GT > DB
And it was fucking bizarre for everyone.

That's because he's not grown up, he's still a kid (by law). The fully adult Gohan that we see in Super, EoZ and I guess GT is more similar to what his character is: a nerd who fights if his family is threatened. Teen Gohan is still trying to figure out life, like balancing school and training with Videl, though it wasn't by choice, trying to keep his powers under wraps, etc.

Yes, Kid Goku is the best.

*and later dropping out temporarily to train with Videl

>Americas (both USA and other countries)
Dunno about other spic countries, but here in Tacoland we got DB first. We even had two dubs, the first one was called "Zero and the Magic Dragon" and they changed stuff all over the place

Didn't Harmony Gold try releasing it in 1989 but with excessive name changes (Goku is Zero for example), and then Funimation/Saban in 1995, but both for swiftly cancelled? I remember watching some of it in 2002 when I was 5 when they finally aired it again and completed it.

Character development. Plus the smugness at the start was really just bluster to help his poor self-confidence due to the bullying he got at Orin Temple.

Dragon Ball in America has over 12 dubs. The way anime was handled by distributors was so bad, they really should have been prosecuted for being both incompetent and a monopoly. But it's just chink cartoons for kids so no one in the media industry cared. Hell, I suspect they helped kill anime on purpose.

>Zero and the Magic Dragon

Sounds like they translated the Harmony Gold dub

Surprised they didn't change Goku to Puff so they could force a horrible Puff the Magic Dragon pun.

>12
Damn, and I thought the mexican distributors were idiots for trying out the shitty Zero dub first

Reading about it, that was it. They did 60 episodes of that version but it never caught on so it was scrapped

Thats not true. Dragon Ball aired in America too - albeit it was after DBZ had already started over here but it was broadcast on Cartoon Network all the same.

I was 8 or 9 years old and sobbing after the episode where Gohan finds the dinosaurs.

>And I still don't remember seeing it airing on US TV
It eventually did.

>tfw I found out he's a gay pedo
