Learning it isn't really necessary unless you're a dirty LARPer or you want to seriously study German literature. Don't be a fucking Wehraboo, go to meetups and give your support to your fellow NatSocs in any way you can. When you can start reading the classics, listening to and understanding to Bach cantatas/chorales, reading German historical documents you gain an interesting perspective.

You do not want to work in Germany or Austria. I've never been to Switzerland but it's probably similar. I'm an electrical engineer and I work on integrated electrical systems and embedded computers in military vehicles. Learning German huh, im doing it. Been doing it for 2 years now. And believe me it is fucking hard to watch TV and get a hang of the language with all the Non White Garbage they flood the tv with.
Id suggest watching Movies on Netflix with German Subtitles, or German Audio and English Subtitles.
Definitely get yourself a good book, these ones i used at the language school (pic related)
Once you learn the basics and the core parts of the language it is a whole lot easier cause you then just need to learn what all the new nouns and verbs are.

Whenever there is a word you don't understand go to
dict.cc (best German-English translation website there is) and look it up.
You watch it in German to also understand the pronounciation.
Grammar:
Read alot of fucking German books.
There is no getting around it.
The Japanese have Kanji, we have our 3, lovely noun markers.
Der, Die, Das play a big role in German literature, as our language is based on nouns.
You can find tips online, for example:
-ung suffix is always "Die" (feminine)
-chen (often used for minimization) suffix is always "Das" (neutral)
-or suffix is always "Der" (masculine)
But most of the time you just have to have heard it and know it by heart.
When you've learnt enough the noun markers will come to you, naturally.
Don't know what else to say, maybe that we use commas much more often than Englishmen do.
Learn the rest of it as you would learn any other language, open up a folder with ALL grammar rules and force them into your brain.

These language programs, like Rosetta and Duolingo are mostly a waste of time, and a way of making lazy people think they're accomplishing something. Learning a language takes real effort and study, not to mention forcing yourself to converse with others in that language.
