Not ever. He's the most cohesive, developed character in the manga. Some events around him, like Alluka's bond with him, are not particularly well written but he himself never ceased to be a highlight character.

somewhere around him getting killed by a dart using merman if not for an octopus and turning into storm spirit.

Complaining about him being "omg such a mary sue" from the start is retarded, but the complaint becomes more legitimate as the series goes on, and he becomes able to face more and more on his own without any help.

Still, he's not as bad as he's made out to be.

Remember that page where a character's defining character flaw, his overly cautious nature and tendency to avoid fighting outright when he has doubts about the outcome of the fight was revealed to not have been the character but an object in his head? Remember that page where he literally removes a major aspect of his character from his body? Remember when his brother had so much influence over him since he practically raised him and trained him his whole life and he was still feeling the effects of his brother's influence long after he left his control but then it was revealed his brother was mind-controlling him the whole time instead of having any kind of character influence? Instead of growing as a character and overcoming (or not) his problems he just removes it completely. And instead of having a realistic, believable reaction to being mind controlled by your family, putting both your life and the lives of the ones you want to protect in jeopardy, he just kind of goes "haha good prank bro".
This was the moment I was seriously starting to ask myself if this series was now being ghost-written or if Togashi was off his fucking rocker on so many opiates because of his back problems.

Killua is just a complete cuck. He was cool in the beginning but he's just gotten more and more homo from the beginning.

He's completely gay for Gon but is totally unable to admit because he knows how straight and alpha Gon is. He literally stalked Gon during his date with Palm because he had to "protect" him. He went to fight pic related (an intentional suicide mission) even though he didn't give a shit about Kite just because Gon wanted to. He gave up being both an adventurer and an assassin so that he could babysit his 9 year old sister (male) with multiple mental disorders.

He has zero aspirations or goals aside from having Gon pound his butt. He just does whatever Gon wants and doesn't seem to have any strong opinions about anything. He was originally introduced as this edgy, remorseless assassin, but most his panel time in the manga is him frolicking with his boyfriend like the gay little fruit he is. How do you get invested in a character who isn't trying to achieve anything or become anything?

He's also not even interesting to watch fight because for like half the manga his philosophy is "pick on weaklings and run away from anyone strong enough to put up a fight." It takes like 15 volumes before he has a real battle that he fights to the finish and isn't over in 2 seconds. And then after that the manga shifts focus so he gets way less time in the story and the next major arc has him hopelessly outclassed again and unable to do much real fighting.

TL;DR he's dull as a character and boring to as a fighter in an action manga.
