Rising of the Shield Hero

Don't know about manga updates, but I said I would be posting spoilers for the LNs, so I will.
Alternatively, Shield Hero thread.

Prologue:Naofumi and Co. are looking for the other three heroes, because something doesn’t seem right about the tortoise situation. At the end of the chapter, Firo hears screaming in the distance. Usual recap of everything that happened so far throughout.
Chapter 1:Naofumi helps protect a group of people (bandits) from tortoise Familiars (Bat type, and one Yeti type that appears). The familiars, once dead, spawn more familiars after a while. Naofumi takes everything from the bandits, but brings them to safety. One of them might have saw Ren. After arriving at a town, they portal back to give an update to the Queen.
Chapter 2:After portaling back to the town, and immediately find it’s beset by a Spirit tortoise familiar (amalgamated parasite type), similar to a Chimera and ~8m tall. After attacking it, Firo gives a terrible explanation about why they shouldn’t attack it more, but is shown by bat types coming from a lopped off scythe, owing to it’s name ‘amalgamated parasite’. After attacking another head, Ost (the strange girl from the last book) explains they’ll need a stronger attack to destroy the tail. Eventually the shield of Wrath is used. Turns out Ost is a familiar (human type).

Chapter 3:The groups returns to the guild hall in town to get an explanation from Ost. She was supposed to cause discord in the country where the tortoise was sealed to gather souls to make the barrier to protect the world from the waves. The blue hourglasses are the power level of the waves, with the Spirit tortoise being a level 7 threat (scale unknown). Glass, L’arc, etc. aren’t part of the waves. Someone has taken over the Spirit tortoise to siphon the soul energy for sinister purposes, and the seal wasn’t undone properly, so she’s helping all the heroes to properly undo it and defeat her(?). Naofumi then gets an urgent message that the tortoise has reawakened. Ost can only assist Naofumi via support magic, and she becomes a party member. They attempt to portal to the tortoise, but are prevented by the main tortoise body. They instead portal to Melromark Castle, and decide to hold a strategy meeting with the Queen.
Chapter 4:Seven Star heroes are investigating the land of the tortoise’s origins. The queen evaluates the strength of a Seven Star Hero to be about as strong as Firo or Raphtalia. Missile-like objects rain from the sky, causing explosions upon striking the ground. At that point, the Spirit tortoise comes into view. Naofumi describes it like having rabies, and redubs it Spirit Tortoise Tyrant. The missile-like objects were ‘spines’ coming from the new spire mountain on its back. The group leaves to meet with the coalition army surrounding the tortoise.
Fuck actually writing detailed spoilers. Fuck 2000 character limit per post. I'll only get to post about two chapters per.

Chapter 5:On the way, naofumi receives a thick stack of papers from a research division on the Spirit Tortoise; tells the captain who gave it to him to read it and report back, as well as to give a copy to Rishia. The army generals find out Ost is a familiar, and get upset, saying she should be butchered due to ‘sacrificing the people to protect the world’. Naofumi gets angry and makes a comparison to the country summoning the heroes to ‘sacrifice’ them to save the world from the waves. Queen eventually steps in and says the Tortoise once fought for the world, though not necessarily for humans. That’s not the case now, though. Queen and Ost go talk to Rishia about what the heroes can do to stop the tortoise. Naofumi continues to talk to the army about the strategy. The Tortoise stops occasionally to draw power from the earth. The plan is to attack when it’s in an area with less magical energy that’s able to be absorbed.
Chapter 6:The tortoise begins to move again after an hour, and Naofumi has read up a bit on it. Of course, lots of info has been lost over the ages. After a while, they take off in a large carriage to engage the tortoise. Ost casts anti-grav magic on Raphtalia and others to lessen the effect of Firo dodging the spikes; Naofumi may be able to learn it. Arriving at the tortoise, everyone starts buffing Raphtalia and Firo, while Naofumi puts up shields. The Tortoise shoots it’s energy beam, and Naofumi proceeds to block it with assistance from the old lady and Ost. Firo and Raphtalia then attack the head, also with assistance from all possible attackers. The head is severed, but then regenerates and fires another particle beam. The group retreats.

Chapter 7:They return to the camp, and start thinking about how to beat the tortoise. The possibility of sealing it comes up. However, they need to act quickly, as Melromark Castle is back in view. Fitoria contacts Naofumi, and says that she can help, but needs him to stall the tortoise for an hour. Naofumi sends Raphtalia, Rishia, Eclair, and the old lady to evacuate Castle Town just in case, while Firo and Ost are to support him. Raphtalia disagrees, but eventually relents. After a while, Naofumi arrives at the turtle, and starts to restrain its movement. After seeing this, it sends a spike type familiar, but it’s stopped by Firo and Ost, the latter using it to power her spells, as it’s part of the tortoise. The turtle uses its particle beam to attack them, and they barely scrape by. This happens repeatedly, with Naofumi wondering why it can rapidfire them. During this, Ost helps Naofumi resist the effects of the Shield of Wrath, getting cursed burns in the process. Fitoria finally shows up after an hour of this, and the three of them retreat.
Chapter 8:Fitoria can only distract the turtle, not kill it. The Castle Town evac group returns, and everyone plans to climb onto the tortoise’s back to both search for more info and to find the heart.
Chapter 9:Getting on the tortoise’s shell was hard, as is finding a cave. Ost guides them via intuition. The caves have installation type familiars all along them. With a map of the caves, exploring is easier, but they soon find it’s outdated. However, they path they need to take is just longer than expected. Eventually arriving at a large cavern, they begin to fight a large number of tough familiars. After winning, the chamber becomes a base of operations. They leave a few people to guard the army, while the remaining group splits in half: one group to look for info in the temples, and the other half to look for the heart.

Chapter 10: Ost continues to guide Naofumi’s small group via intuition to the temple. After clearing a small ‘room’, they find another group of adventurers. However, something is off about them. After Raphtalia uses Anti-Mirage on them, they find out the group is L’Arc, Therese, and Glass. Before they can really do anything, installation types pop out of the walls and focus Naofumi’s group. Assuming they’re opposing them, Raphtalia charges Glass. However, L’Arc and Therese let out strong attacks, which Naofumi defends against, but also destroy many of the installation types. This causes a cave-in, separating the two groups. After fighting mimic versions of Glass and L’Arc, the cave is completely blocked, so they must find another way.
Chapter 11:They finally get to the temple, which has been destroyed by the reawakening of the tortoise. The group tries to look for any fragments Naofumi can read, but only get two new words. Heart and Head. Naofumi comes to the conclusion that they must destroy the head and heart at the same time to kill it, but Ost says she feels he’s not 100% correct. The group returns to tell the army what they found, and then gather more people to look for the heart. After searching for a while, though, all paths lead to dead ends. However, Firo finds a spot on the cavern floor that feels ‘weird.’ Turns out it’s a mimic familiar blocking a passage leading deeper in. As they progress, the passage changes from cave to flesh. As Ost gets closer to the heart, her regenerative abilitys increase, and are able to cure the cursed burns inflicted unintentionally by Naofumi. After working through a few doors where you must cut the right sinew, as well as passing by a blue hourglass that’s about 20% full, they make it to the heart chamber. They engage the heart and attempt Naofumi’s idea, but it fails. It appears the sealing spell is necessary.
Also forgot: This is LN Volume 7.

Chapter 12:After returning to the base, Naofumi tells the army they found the heart and they the sealing spell is needed. Along the way, some troops die due to the blood cell-like enemies. The group then engages the heart again, covering the coalition army that is preparing the sealing magic. The first attempt doesn’t work, the second attempt succeeds for a few seconds, and the third attempt finally works in sealing the turtle, as the head and heart needed to be destroyed at the same time that the sealing magic was used. The path to the core of the turtle then opens. Naofumi only takes the main fighters, since they’ll be facing the person who took control of the turtle.
Chapter 13:After about 10 minutes, the group arrives in the core room. The core is floating in the center, and on the far side of the room are the three heroes, locked in transparent crystals. Before they can get close to free them, they are attacked by a... sheet of paper? The big bad then reveals himself, and he’s basically a self-absorbed asshole. He’s sapping power from the three heroes to help power the core. The heroes got captured much like they failed to defeat the turtle in the WN: Rens party members die, Motoyasu runs away once his support group fails, and Itsuki is tied up by his old party members. He’s upset that Fitoria is blocking the turtle, as he cannot gather more energy. They then engage the big bad, but has been able to learn about Naofumi’s strategies via the monitors in the core room, which allows him to see what the turtle sees. BB is pushed back, and activates a barrier he planned to save for later, and summons Neo Guardian familiars. Naofumi’s group is then put at a disadvantage, but then more people arrive. L’Arc, Therese, and Glass.

Chapter 14:Naofumi is bewildered when L’Arc helps him, and Glass explains that they’re here to punish the vassal hero of the book, Kyo Ethnina, who is from their world, as he has taken control of a protective beast, which is not allowed. In short, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, even if they’re also my enemy. Kyo’s the reason their group was unable to team up with Naofumi’s earlier. The two groups then begin to attack Kyo again, as Naofumi sends them a support troop party invite. Kyo is too well defended, but Naofumi picks up on specifically ‘well defended,’ and motions for L’Arc to use his defense rating attacks on Kyo, which shatters his barrier. However, he then just layers barrier upon barrier after this. The old granny then gets into attack range, and shatters all of those barriers. Firo then has a chance to use her Spiral Strike attack, which pierces a hole through Kyo’s stomach. Of course, he regenerates after that attack, and uses an offensive gravity type attack, and almost no one in their group can move aside from Ost, Glass, the old lady, and Rishia, for some reason. Ost then telepathically communicates with Naofumi and helps him cast a powerful spell, All Liberation Aura, which allows the party to move again, and powers them up past their previous capabilities. Kyo then grabs Ost with magic and brings her into his barriers, powering them up. It’s then revealed that Ost is the Tortoise’s soul.

Chapter 15:Kyo has begun using the energy from the core to power himself up. The party is in deep shit, but someone is still able to perform and stand against him. It’s… Rishia?! Her passion and anger are fueling her against Kyo, and she is somehow able to easily dodge and repel his attacks. She may have finally activated her latent potential through her Hengen Muso training. She then frees the three other heroes, and Ost gives Naofumi one final bit of assistance: unlocking the Spirit Tortoise Heart Shield, which has at least double the stats of the previous Spirit Whale Shield. He realizes that she wants him to destroy the core, and by extension, her with it’s special effect, which is basically the particle beam. Naofumi blocks Kyos attacks, and Rishia sends a sword of light straight at Kyo. It breaks through his barriers, and embeds itself into his chest. At this moment, Naofumi shoots the beam and destroys the core. Kyo then retreats to Glass’s world after accomplishing his plans. Naofumi tries to chase him, but he is not permitted to do so by his holy weapon.
Epilogue:Having been denied, he refocuses on Ost, and feels awful due to having to kill her. He didn’t want to be the cause of a friend's death. Ost thanks all of the people who helped Naofumi. The other three heroes are carried out. Naofumi wanted to know why Ost didn’t treat him worse because she doesn’t want people sad at her death, but she retorts that he wouldn’t have trusted her otherwise. Ost grants Naofumi the ability to invade the other world conditionally, and Glass and Co. open the portal again. Naofumi continues to feel like shit, but L’Arc urges him to hurry, as the portal will close soon. He picks Raphtalia, Firo, and Rishia to go with him.
Fuck the extra chapter.

And done. Hopefully this thread doesn't die. Otherwise, I'll just wait for another Shield Hero thread to pop up some other time and post there.

Oh wow, yeah i was waiting for this

>Ost grants Naofumi the ability to invade the other world conditionally
Is the condition being reset to lvl 1?

From Volume 8's short summary, probably, as he is Lv 1 again.

I had assumed that was the case

>All Liberation Aura
looks like an upgrade of naofumi's aura spell. In the WN they called that tier of magic revelation, or maybe it's another type of spell?

It could be, considering Ost helped him cast it.
It may also just be a wording change.

I guess they could be similar when written in katakana.

bump!

Guess ill copy those spoilers and post them in the middle of the month to make another thread. Thanks fore everything spoilerbro.

Pleas tell me the LN gets a happy ending

IT's not even finished.
