Why can't modern anime romance compete?

Why can't modern anime romance compete?

Because they can't write characters like Rumiko, and really don't even try.

Because they all copy shitty highschool otakubait romance series which have no real substance in characters or writing.

Can't we have an anime that have this artstyle anymore?

hlurf blurf 80s anime is the best I hate modern anime blah blah blah

The romance in Maison Ikkoku during the last dozen episodes after things pick up is wonderful, and there's some good parts every few episodes before that, but large stretches of the show are pretty tedious and boring.

I love Maison Ikkoku, but definitely not for the romance which is borderline nonexistent. It's just a wacky romcom like Ranma 1/2 but without the martial arts and gender swapping.

I mean, even suggesting that Maison Ikkoku has legitimately good romance makes me want to punch you through the internet.

Sorry, but there's no way a mexican like yourself has any idea what constitutes high quality romance.

Rinne S3 is airing soon.

The first season dragged on a bit, but the second season really started to get good.

Most likely, you weren't even alive during the 80s or even the 90s.

I like how its a complete love story unlike so many other shows

>tfw you turned 12 in 1999, but aren't sure if that's old enough to count as being 'alive' yet

Think however you like, Pedro, it won't change the fact that you don't understand good romance.

>Think however you like
Confirmed: English isn't your native language.

Because modern "romance" is harem with a beta protagonist for self insertion. There's rarely an actual, honest love story, it all became about pandering to different fetishes and moving on to the next crap.

Yes, yes, stereotyping is fun, I know.

Actually, that's correct you dumb spic.

Maison Ikkoku blows Kuzu no Honkai out of the water though.

It's fine to dislike Kuzu no Honkai, but it should be considered crap on its own lack of merits. Nostalgiafags tend to whitewash everything after their own personal 'golden age' as being the exact same, whereas Kuzu no Honkai shows that, no, that user's strawman of what all modern anime are like isn't correct.

Can you stop posting already?

OP is a retard but MI is good.

>but MI is good.
Based on what?

Rumiko won`t be remembered by her writing.

Maison Ikkoku is guilty of being unnecessarily long and relying too much on the same kind of misunderstandings over and over again.
Kuzu No Honkai is guilty of having way too many overly dramatic dialogues or monologues, even when there's no need for them.

I would say Maison Ikkoku is easier to stomach because it's a light-hearted comedy, so it's easier to sit through the filler chapters/episodes, while Kuzu No Honkai comes off as heavy in an uncomfortable way. So yeah, it's better, but it also has its fair share of flaws.

Funny how Maison Ikkoku would never get an anime adaptation nowadays. Otakus and autists would get a stroke the second Mitaka appears and "NTRs" them.

what will she be remembered by?
being the richest woman in japan?

Lum.

It doesn't change the fact that Maison Ikkoku is better written than modern romance anime.

Calm down, fanboy. Calling Maison Ikkoku a romance is dubious at best.

>Calling Maison Ikkoku a romance is dubious at best
Naturally I expect dumb beaners like yourself to say stupid shit like this.

>Why can't modern anime romance compete?

because popular anime adapts from shitty light novels instead

Even if there were less LN adaptions, that wouldn't change anything. The anime audience just isn't there for a new franchise with the type of story as Maison Ikkoku to be a success today.

Why not? What about White Album 2?

300 episodes of open hostility with one episode of blushing kissu.

Sasuga Rumiko-sensei.

t. idiot who didn't watch the show

Go back to Sup Forums and/or Sup Forums.

they actually have sex
twice

After you're deported.

Kyoko's a widow, they would never let that pass in the first place.
Remember what happened the last time it was even implied that the main heroine had a boyfriend before?

Huh, surprised there haven't been any kyoanus shills here yet to spam Kyoukai or Tamako as objective GOAT romance. I guess even they recognize superiority when they see it.

Maison ikkoku was a good romance anime but it was an even better slice of life anime.

kyoani should remake the maison ikkoku anime

Why?

>Remember what happened the last time it was even implied that the main heroine had a boyfriend before?

Otaku were a mistake

HAHAHAHAno.

They'd make it too damn glossy with their typical overuse of filters and bloom effects. The simpler artwork and coloration in MI adds to its appeal; makes it comfier.

>Why can't modern anime romance compete?
Because Maison Ikkoku, unlike modern romances which take 13 episodes of misunderstandings for the couple to get together, takes 100 episodes of misunderstanding to get the obvious couple together.

Nice joke

Nisekoi >>>>>>>> anything from Rumikoshit
If you're going to make a case for old romances > new romances at least mention good series like Kodomo no Omocha or Itazura na Kiss

Rekt
I hate Telenovela-obsessed spics

I fucking hate this shit.
I don't even know how much it is legit or a joke but I lost my shit when Boku Dake was airing and the NTR and KEK started flying. Jesus fuck.
