Kimi no na wa

Fuck off and kill yourself.
I love posting about this film!
Waiting patiently for those BDs, if all this hype is even half warranted it should be good at least.
Also, this
I got to see this in Aus last year twice. The first time, we were late and missed the pre-title montage thing, Where it shows Mitsuha going to the city and her monologue standing under the meteor.
I think the film is better off having NOT seen this. It didn't give away anything that was going to happen, nor give me any kind of,
nor set me up to expect anything. So when it was revealed that the town was destroyed by the meteor, I was genuinely surprised.
Does anyone else feel the same?

im being ostracized
Eeh, I didn't think anything of the intro, other than the comet being pretty and the opening song feeling out of place because it was like a TV series OP than a feature film.
on the one hand, I think the opening is a pitch-perfect encapsulation of the mood and aesthetic of the film, but I can see why you'd want certain plot elements or motifs to be totally surprising as well.
I'd try to watch it in theaters. If you can watch it in theaters, you're not doing yourself any favours by skipping it.
It's definitely more "anime" than say a Ghibli project in this respect. Makes it all the more a pleasant surprise that the West has received it so well.
Not playing within 50 miles, probably more. Besides, I'm too autistic to go somewhere like than and purchase a ticket to watch actual animu in the presence of other people. I wouldn't enjoy it. I'll just wait and watch it at my comfy battlestation like everything else for the last decade or so.
I had a few spergs in my showing that were borderline freaking out at the end during the numerous times it seemed as if Taki and Mitsuha would pass each other but not make contact.
Also, everyone gasped when the twilight hour thing ended.
So if Taki switched bodies with Mitsuha, which of them still has his architecture drawing skills?
I went into this movie knowing nothing other than some vague notion about the body swapping. But I was familiar with shinkis other works so the intro kinda set made me thinking it was going to be another youth love that was not ment to be story, (them fading away to each other, reaching towards each other from there distant homes) this made the ending much more satisfying.
Also the first time I was engrossed in the movie I forgot completely about the intro 15 minutes into the movie. The second time you notice it spoils alot. It's like noticing the days/dates are off on their phones, you'd never notice it the first time.
This
yeah audience response was big in mine too
when it cut to Mitsuha (Taki) crying his eyes out whilst groping herself after previously pledging not do so so, it got a nice big laugh
>watch this
>fucking love it and go twice
>see my local theater is showing something else by the same guy "Beyond the Clouds"
>it's badly animated meaningless shit
Oh well guess I'll not watch anything else
For the sub viewing I saw, the ore joke got the biggest laugh.
This was my first Shinkai movie, but I've been well aware of the bitter endings of his previous works. There were a number of times a scene would end after a near miss and I fully expecting the credits to roll.
>mfw the real end happened
Yeah, Place Promised (Beyond the Clouds) wasn't his greatest.
For me, I would rate his films
5cm/s>(slightly)Your Name>Place Promised>Lost Voices.
Haven't had a chance to watch Voices of a Distant Star yet, but I've hear good things about it.
I watched promised place years ago when it came out and rembered really liking it. Watched it again after watching your name and felt it was really meh outside of the visuals
none of his other stuff is really in the same league, but they're all pretty short, so you might as well, just to get some sense of his directorial trajectory.
Voices is like 20 minutes long you should just watch it. It's alright, it's a very early work and it shows though
Ah, that "It's me!" scam again.
Judged without context purely from a viewer POV, I do agree that Voices is pretty rough -- definitely nowhere as good as this movie.
As an accomplishment, though, I find it really impressive. Shinkai did everything himself (except the music and the girl's voice).
Is there a clean 720p or 1080p rip yet?
I want to go see the dub to compare the 2, do you know what they do with that scene?
he (she) messes up and refers to herself by saying "a girl... gal... guy like me" or something, I can't quite recall
So how much of the film (Or Makoto's work in general) is done with computers?
I'm assuming that the vast majority of characters, locations and actions are hand-drawn; but is anything done with computers? Obviously touch ups and cleaning, but would they use it for lighting?
Not bad, I don't think I could have come up with anything better.
yeah with the difference in languages I think they did a good job
why is she so fucking cute lads?
Ah. Yeah that doesn't seem great but it's better than anything I could have come up with
Was the dub acting decent? My sister wants to see it but doesn't have a day off until Saturday when only the dub is left playing. I'll skip seeing it again if it doesn't have the feel of the Japanese.
Yeah, it felt clunky but it's such a specific joke that can't translate. Gotta say, though, the dub was actually pretty decent overall. I'd almost recommend viewing it since it allows you to take in all of Shinkai's art in it's fullest.
The dub was the only version playing in my area and I didn't have a problem with it. I hear the acting in the sub is something special though.
The dub was pretty good as far as dubs are considered. Unfortunately, I think the biggest negative impact of the dub is that the Radwimps songs were also redone in English. And while I applaud the effort they put into writing and singing it in English, some of the lyrics just sound a bit off. Something about the timing and certain word choices just didn't sit well with me.
Is it worth it to cosplay Taki to the last viewing I can go to? I threw it together after Friday and it's pretty basic, so I might look like an autist. On the other hand, I'll probably never see anyone in that theater again.
This was the first anime movie I've seen without the formal speech patterns that were so common in Miyazaki. It kinda felt less Japanese.
Yeah I saw English dub and Japanese OST last year and having listened to a few of the songs redone in English, I prefer the originals. The lyrics aren't exactly super important anyway.
He wears really plain clothes, people would barely notice
Did you even watch the movie? They even showed off his drawing skills in mitsuha's art class.
coloring, shading, lighting, sfx such as haze. Same as every other non cell anime
As a girl.
Starting off with a girl is ambiguous and doesn't refer to herself until the end of the sentence.
It seems Mitsuha's VA even won the seiyuu awards. Pretty amazing considering she's like new.
Maybe all the shinki cockblocks through the ages... they were all to prepare for this movie.
Did anyone think that at this scene?
Go see it with your imouto, you joyless bastard.
No, but that's pretty funny
>implying most of Sup Forums isn't thinly veiled generals anyway
BOKURA TAIMU FURAIYAA
Last day in my local theater, going to see it a few hours again, kinda saddening.
> Amazon U.K. Starts Accepting Pre-orders for "Your Name." DVD/Blu-ray for October 30, 2017 Release
>October 30, 2017
so this is true suffering
enjoy it my man
it only showed for one day in my area - i had tickets in advance, but still
why do you need a general for this
it's literally one movie
I can't not see it
Past threads have hit autosage
it will stop once it stops being shown in theatres, but as of right now it's essentially a currently airing show.
Does anyone have the english versions of the four songs? I can only find Sparkle.
>After leaving Tokyo, Yukari moved to the bumfuck village of Kimi no na wa
>She and her underage husbando will keep appearing as cameo's in other Shinkai movies
>Until that one multi-billion, Miyazaki-dethroning magnum opus where they meet up again and fugg
I went watching this only knowing it was from the guy who made Garden of Words and that I've never seen an anime in theaters.
I enjoyed the plot, character designs and the visuals/animation was well worth watching on a large screen.
Spotify has them, in the Deluxe Edition
man these are ass
yeah the originals work much better, idk why you'd want to localize pop music, where it's all about the feeling, not the words, but there you go
> See it for the first time last night
> Some family with 3 kids comes in 25 minutes late, and starts heading towards my seat
> Takes forever to sit down and then they immediately start complaining and crying loudly about it being subbed
I want this movie to do well here but fuck was that a nightmarish experience.
Should have complained. Might have gotten free tickets.
Kinda glad that even though all my viewings have been small, the crowds have been quiet and respectful.
I'm really going to need to get the BDs for this when they come out. I'm pissed that Funimation didn't do anything to market this, though,
Bodyswap doujin fucking when
It was bad enough that I kind of want to try to catch an early showing today. Heres to an empty theater.
They fucked up pretty badly. The movie could have found at least some success here if they actually tried.
Someone posted some last thread.
Fucking this.
Is so sad that we have reached a point where guys know more about being cut and feminine than girls do.
>theatre I went to added more screenings well into next week instead of stopping them tomorrow
Hell yes. Gonna take my parents to watch it
Only Sparkle is great, last one is somewhat good, while Zense is fucking trash and first one is mediocre.
Any news on when it'll be on Blu-ray in Japan?
>take my parents to watch it
G-goodluck my dude.
Considering quite a few anons have said they were surprised when they found out it was playing the week of, yeah they over expected the word of mouth campaign
>tfw Zenzenzense is my favorite one in japanese
>tfw going to see the dub today
hooo boy
I am going to see this in Montreal
The subtitles will still be in english right?
Yes, it should indicate on your ticket order (Japanese w/e.s.t.).
I hope it won't blow up in my face. The movie impressed me so much though, I feel like it's one of those things people should know exists
Great, should I order tickets beforehand or it is fine to get them at the theater
unless they're total prudes about light sexual humor I imagine it will go over just fine, that's the only part I can see being kind of offputting
Girls know about it fine, they just don't get a sexual reward from participating in such activities so they're less incentivized to do it.
My mom fucking loved it
Debating trying to talk my Dad's family into seeing it, dunno how successful I'd be though.
Eh it's certainly a film you can take your parents to. I definitely want to go see a Hosoda film with my parents.
there's a watchable rip on nyaa
Wolf Children is mom-core as fuck dude, I mean, I don't have first hand experience, but it seems like it's ready made for parents since thats whats its about
>people commenting that you're coming home several hours late from work the last few days
>tfw you don't want to explain that you've fallen in love with a movie
Yes, some things are best left personal
That's a good point
Hosoda films are very heavy on the value of family and relationship, I'm hoping his next movie is screened here. I'm definitely taking my parents and sister to that one.
Yeah there's a real universal quality to them, like with Your Name, which is partly why they were so successful in so many age groups
I'm going to throw aside my Sup Forums-approved cynicism and embrace my old teenage hyperbolic enthusiasm for a moment
This movie is a god-damned masterpiece. This is one of the greatest films I've ever seen in my entire goddamn life, and someday like ten years from now I'm going to have to rent out a theater to see it again the right way, not that will stop me from buying the BD.
This movie made me feel things, man. It swept me away into an emotional and beautiful world that made me forget about my shit life and invest myself wholly in the lives of it's characters.
Fuck any and all haters, I will fight you in the parking lot.
I think another director could've been much more cynical and poisoned by irony in tackling those kind of issues, but both guys seem totally all in on the honesty of the emotions, might be a Japanese thing. It's nice, either way.
I saw it on opening day at Cineplex Forum on St-Catherine, arrived about an hour early thinking it was gonna be as bad as Madoka was. It wasn't -- we were first in line for a good 15 minutes. Theater was still full, though. Dunno how it'd be 5 days later for a release like this, but my guess is you'll probably be fine either way.
>we were the first and only ones in line for a good 15 minutes
Fixed.
Wolf Children is Mom-core, Boy and the Beast is Dad-core, Summer Wars is extended family-core.
Felt a resemblance to how I felt watching Spirited Away, notably the name Taki sounding like Taku.
Haku I mean.
I like this
