Whats the deal with modern art?

I recently visited a modern art museum and after looking around I just kept thinking. Hmm, I could probably make that. Whats pol's thought on modern art. Pic related is something I made in MS paint in 5 minutes.

It's a money laundering front. You really think anonymous businessmen are buying 12x12 spray painted canvases for upwards of 200,000 dollars? It's not even an emperors new clothes situation the art is objectively not worth what it costs and anyone with enough to pay for that knows it.

pick related is probably hard as fuck to make
>paint canvas black, has to be completely solid with no obvious brushstrokes
>proceed to make several rectangles of different colors also solid and with no brushstrokes
and it's not money laundering you retards

My masterpiece, I call it... the Windows 8 start screen.

whatever you say Mr. Nosebergowitz

is this a merchant?

Photorealism is also incredibly difficult. You can admire its technical mastery and the labor that went into its painting, but there is little artistic value within it. Why bother when some smuck with a camera can be as much of an artist as you?

But modern art doesn't even have technical mastery. It's all vapid self-expression garbage now. Art like this is exclusively so that rich, liberal cunts can apply the latest post-modern anarcho-eco-feminist bullshit onto it. Even the most cringeworthy Socialist Realism propaganda required some amount of skill to produce. This... is just shapes. A toddler could make it. The artist who made this is probably comparable in intelligence.

I thought the same

Kek i see the happy merchant

>related is something I made in MS paint in 5 minutes.
The orange is too overpowering, and seems to change the structure of the other blocks. I honestly would try it with a more tame, complimenting color.

Most famous abstract artists are adept objective painters too. I bet you listen to jazz and think, "wtf they're just hitting random notes"

...

Sure. Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol could do it. But you need to know the rules in order to break them. Most artists that are shat out of art universities nowadays are rich idiots who don't want to learn how to draw.

When the difference between a master and a four-year old with crayons is indistinguishable, you've gone too far. Modern art is deliberately ugly, deliberately impenetrable, which is why it's become a farce and worthy of mockery. You think that any of these pieces will be kept in posterity for generations to come? Or will they be mistaken for garbage?

Came to say this

Money laundering

There are some good artists.

But it's mostly a way to keep kids who have no marketable skills busy so they don't commit crime.

This

All those people who make modern art for a museum were in on the gig since day one. It's not like some faggot was making modern art and some collector happened to walk by and say "I'll give you one million for that piece of garbage." No, the artist knew about the scheme in advance and is playing along with the kike brokers the entire time.

Good merchant. I'd hang it on my wall at home.

Arts goal is to make you stop, think, and discuss it.

Modern art is doing that, just look at this thread.

Lol I'm pretty sure it is. Saved either way

I don't know, user. Who could even be behind it?

You should learn the difference between modern and contemporary art before criticizing it. I'm not saying it shouldn't be criticized, because it should, but some early modern art, like impressionism, can actually be quite good.

In case you're not aware, contemporary art usually refers to art created after the second world war up until the present. Modern art started in the mid-1800s and ended when the war was over. Of course, not everyone agrees exactly when the transition from modern to contemporary art took place, but the end of WW2 is a good approximation.

My point is: contemporary art and modern art aren't the same thing.

To add to this it WAS also used for tax avoidance among jewish families. I don't think you can claim art purchases to reduce your taxes owed.

For most of those things, the truth is, you probably couldn't.

Is that a jew? Why do you hate jews?

Looks like a Windows Mobile screenshot.

I don't hate Jews, Except the ones controlling the world.

>Why bother when some smuck with a camera can be as much of an artist as you?
This is an idiotic argument.
First of all, very few painters in history have gone for photo-realism. If you've ever looked at art, you'll know that even the ones who painted realistically, usually stylized their art in one way or another. You can immediately tell a painting from a photo.

The other thing is that you can't take a photograph of your imagination. An artist with enough skill can paint whatever he wants, like historical settings, battles, Gods, mythological creatures, etc. For a photographer to be able to recreate something from his imagination is either impossible, or would require dozens of actors, professionally tailored costumes, expensive sets, perfect lighting, and so on.

How people can possible use the argument that photography replaced painting is beyond me. It's so fucking stupid.

What if you take pictures of paintings huh? What then?

checkmate

Mondrian did it first & better.

fkn jews.

How can photographs be real if our eyes aren't real?

This. Modern art gets away with being so simplistic and primitive because our society is full of easily triggered faggots. No one pays attention to anything they truly deem useless

I think what you made is brilliant. I thought it was real modern art at first sight. Can I buy it? Can you print it out on something big and nice?

OP's is better.

Not really, no. The art community is entirely disconnected from the general public, and the vast majority of people don't like contemporary art at all. But that's irrelevant, because the general public can't afford to buy art to begin with. You only need a tiny elite full of self-absorbed assholes with more money than common sense for the art community to survive.

This is my local modern art museum here in DC. They rub it right in your faces.

Geddit?

Not a good documentary to explain why contemporary art is the way it is these days.

This is a better documentary that shows one of the curators/patrons that participate in building and hyping artists.

TL;DR:
It's about building value and creating new assets, assets in a monetary sense, as gold or bitcoin. Stores of value that grow with time, the real skill is not in the canvas but in the dealing and wheeling behind the scenes and between the collectors and the patrons.

Traditional art ends with the representation of what is given. Instead, at least in some modern art, you can watch one or many layers depending on you. It's more subjective. Sometimes it can say more and be more entertaining than traditional art.

The label of modern art encompasses pictorial styles that do not imply necessarily unmitigated, aimless deconstrucivism.

Windows phone is better

>Traditional art ends with the representation of what is given.
If you think representational art can't be symbolic or have deeper meaning than what you're presented with at face value, then you're an idiot.

If you made that and used brush stroke's and oil paint and had some texture in that oil paint you could and should sell it.

Do it. It's decoration.

The free market disagrees.

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.

>get it?

No, where is the "money" part of this joke? The statue? The laundry is obvious.

I just want classical thicc women like this 19th century painting, bought by Napoleon III himself :(

What happened to art? Jews

>Degenerate art (German: Entartete Kunst) was a term adopted by the Nazi regime in Germany to describe Modern art.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degenerate_art

Photography made traditional representational painting obsolete. Consider the changes the art world went through following the Industrial Revolution, and later WWI. Attempting to come to terms with the horrors of WWI and later WWII and the atom bomb.

If you think you have something to say or contribute via MS Paint, then by all means do so. Establish a body of work which demonstrates that you have a facile visual and conceptual language to process and express your ideas.

You may find it's not as simple or as easy as you might think. Oh, and if you find a Rothko at a garage sale, please pick it up for me, I'll take it off your hands.

How retarded do you have to be to use that as an argument?
