Texas Hold 'Em as an income source - How redpilled is it?

In Canada poker winnings are tax free. As long as you keep your range tight and your plays aggro, you can expect to be a winning player. How viable is this source as an income? Is Texas Hold 'Em degenerate?
Also, cash games or Tournies?

I suppose, on its face this post isn't political, but poker can be used as a source of funding for political causes. That's what I meant to say in my OP

It ain't easy. There's always the rake. But low stakes cash and cheap big tournies are easily profitable unless the rake is crazy.

Cash vs tourney is a fucking philosophical question that will never be answered. But the tourney guys seem to have it easier. As long as they can afford to buy in 150 times before the payday.

Do you think they have it easier?
I'm more focused on cash games and I think I have it easier since I don't have to worry about M-ratios or flips unless I choose to get into them if my stack, pot odds and the law of averages is on my side. Plus I can aggregate my sessions into one to work out my long term odds, Although I suppose tourney players can do that too..

Gambling isn't degenerate or non-degenerate. It's merely a tool. What you use it for is up to you.

If you use it to get wasted every night then that would be an example of degeneracy.

If you use it to uplift yourself and others then that would be an example of non-degeneracy.

Sat with 100$ at a niagra casino hold em table stood up with 1100$ after 2 hours.

Sat with 15$ on a roulette wheel, stood up with 1800$ in 1 hour (The fucking manager showed up mid winnings and shill'd me "Electronic Roulette" as a "New Experience" lmao fucking thieves the whole lot of em

I'm going to ignore your roulette anecdote, since that's a -ev game
But I know Negreanu used to play at Niagra. I'm in AB and there's a lot of retarded oil field workers with more money than brains. How are the games out east?

Mostly I'm talking about personal experience. I'm a cash guy too but even i kind of gave up the "perfect play" ideas for visual and psychological cues and metagame.

Basically the tourney guys i knew explained it as tourneys, even 1k buyin live, had basically 50+% dead money. People who you could "beat" by simply folding. Tourist money. So when they got to the last few rounds it was like a tough short stacked game of regs. And the regs were just vying for everyone else's buy-in.

I guess you could say their logic is that tourneys always have a huge tourist demographic. Whereas cash games are often all regulars who learn your moves.

Please tell me there are casinos in Whitehorse

Its not negative if you know how to play color and rows (no numbers or number spread)

In niagra during the weekday its mostly the regulars who are cautious and can shark-out on you but weekend is full of idiots with money to burn

Tourist money is good money. I play in CGY, so there's a lot less tourist money, but the regs are pretty weak, especially on the weekends. Like any good player, I play my opponents more than I play my cards. I typically use visual cues as a decider when I'm in a mathematical 50/50 situation, including combinatrix. I don't rely very heavily on tells.

Is online still viable?

I agree, there needs to be more vigorous application of the rake in this thread.

I feel gaming the regs is a better long-term goal rather than racing the blinds. I don't mean tells so much as figuring their narrative vs reality. But that insta kneejerk glance at their chips when the flop hits is a serious one. Straight from Caro. But it's the only way I've ever gotten away from flopped fucking boats before the turn. Only aggros do it. And it's hard to fake. So it's like 95% right.

For Canada yeah, Idk about your sheepfucking country.
But the games are way tighter than live games. Faster hand rates make for tighter games, which makes live games more profitable, even at identical stakes. There's more edges to exploit live than online, but online can be profitable if you'r good. Start with .01/,02 stakes and crush it first, then move up.

Poker is a game of LUCK; not skill.

No fuckin' way you can make an income from it unless you pimp out merchandise and endorse websites like the faggots on television.

I'd say no. The field has been thinned out way to much and the rakes are brutal.

Yeah the advantage to online vs live is that the narrative really becomes isolated and clear online, with the lack of live tells. Caro is good, he's a classic, but so is (((Sklansky))). I prefer (((Sklansky))) since he's more mathematical. Also the brackets don't tend to matter in this context since it's isolated to poker.

Just be aware there are downswings and have a bankroll large enough to deal with that.

Fuck off, pleb. Learn math

Last time i played online .05/.10 was honestly harder than live 3/5. It's fucked up. But crushing nickel dime prob means being a king in 3rd world shitholes.

ITT: Gambling addicts

Roulette will always be a losing game, unless you just happen to bet large a few times and get lucky. The longer you play, the more you will lose.

Knowing math helps to play better, but poker is a game of LUCK.

Anyone who says otherwise is a faggy scam artist.

No it's not fucked up. Higher hands/hr. But still I think online is a harder game than live. More countries who can't play live means they move to online. But as for online, Party is looser ad easier that Stars.

>Sat with 15$ on a roulette wheel, stood up with 1800$ in 1 hour
I totally believe you.

t. pleb who doesn't know pot odds and hand matchups

You dont have to be believe me but its true. Played black red with a couple of rows and kept hitting atleast 2 bets out of 3 everytime

I've played a lot of poker.

Seen too many people catch flushes on the river to consider it a game of skill.

Probabalistic variance. I don't NOT believe you. It's certainly possible.

shit life; trying to get out of it and get a business going

>House has a >50% win rate
>Win over 100x your sat amount on essentially a glorified martingale system

I TOTALLY believe you still.

That's biology m8.
Our brains are designed to remember and focus on bad events rather than the positives as a matter of survival. We all face the same odds, it's just a matter of reading your opponent's hand range

There is nothing gayer than poker. It's like a live action Sup Forums show. Everyone thinks they are the smartest player when they are just socially retarded. I mean full retard. Instead of the Driver, everyone acts like they are Matt Damon from Rounders. You sit with a bunch of autistic fags for hours to make at most a couple of hundred or you play a high stakes game with a bunch of drug dealers who are only there to make their money seem clean. Every person around you in the poker room from the players, the dealers, and the pit bosses has a 65% chance of being a known sex offender. Look at every famous poker player and tell me they aren't a child Toucher. Poker is degenerate as fuck because you get weaker from it. There's only two body types in poker, too. You're scrawny with thin weak arms or you're fat with weak, saggy fat arms. Fuck gambling in general, but fuck poker in particular.

Fucking kek, a new copypasta is born

Now say something about albinism and how how whites likely descended from it.

No, I insist to hear faggots talking about how they got fucked by a spade on the River, again. Or how they got lucky and got a Jack to come on the Turn. But when you say it, say it like it's a war story and have another gayboi gasp and sigh in empathy. The mentality of poker players is the same as the old farts on the slot machines. They're smart enough to know someone has to lose, but too dumb to think they will lose.

i have played for a living for a decade. not rich but i've done okay.

it is very hard to get into it right now. you definitely need to know way more than opening ranges and "play aggro" to even beat micro stakes. it needs to be start as a passion. give it a try but there is no easy money anymore.

talking strictly about online poker. live can obviously be very profitable if you get into the right games and don't mind spending entire evenings with degenerate retards.
