A "horrendous" gang attack in the western Melbourne suburb of Tarneit has been caught on camera. The CCTV shows a group of African youths turning on another African teenager,stomping on him and throwing punches, before pushing him up against a wall, and stealing several items from his pockets.
At one point, you can see the moment a thug climbs on a car bonnet, and jumps on the defenceless victim, who is lying on the ground. "It's terrible. There's a victim in our community who's been subjected to what looks like a really serious assault," Commander Russell Barrett from Victoria Police told A Current Affair.
"Whether there is a level of organisation in it, I can't say at this stage, but we will obviously investigate it." It’s understood no charges have been laid.
It comes amid heightened community fear following an escalation of recent African gang activity in Melbourne's west. Danielle and Eric Beaten – who live in Truganina – have been forced to transform their bathroom into a kind of panic room, after a ransacking at their house, an attempted home invasion, and three car burglaries in the past year alone.
