I have been to this area of China, and I know these people well. They speak a dialect of Mandarin with lots of Latin sprinkled in. They can be quite ferocious and are more like Mongols than Chinks.

Those villagers are very likely the descendants of Indo-European settlers from earlier incursions into China. Their are no direct or concrete links between this village and the supposed Roman soldiers who settled in China.
