I disagree, if you already know where you stand then a political test can help refine your positions a bit. I will agree that using them to "find out what you are" from-scratch is utterly useless though.

If you go for the political compass then at least use the Sapply version. Do multiple tests to figure out a good result but every single test out there leaves too much room for interpretation.
Example:

Do they mean my people as a country or the government? Because you can answer differently in this case.

Every state is authorian. if the government wants to screw you over it will find a "legal" way. There is no executive branch enforcing the rules when the government breaks it. Our constitution is full of loose words where you could interpret anything. Also every single law of our constitution can be changed with 2/3 of votes in the parliament.
In a democracy you either have a good or bad life but you will alsways get menaipulated into believing it is good and that you are free.
In an actual authorian state the government is honest and you actually know when it is bad and don't get fooled into a false sense of freedom. Democracy is also the government for with most ways of exploitation. Subversion from within parties, funding from wealthy donors, propaganda because every news outlet is controlled by money, foreign interests which slave away the people and greed.
