Hand drawn animation

Is it that hard to do on a computer?

Painted cels.

Most animation these days is still hand drawn, but it's digitally colored and composited instead of being composited by hand with a camera.

You cannot do it on a computer, its never going to look the same.

>wtf
>not knowing what cels are
lurk more

It looked like shit though.

good retro animation > good modern animation > bad modern animation > bad retro animation

shading

Nothing is worse than bad CG

>wtf
What the fuck happened?

Oh shit, good point. Here's a revised list.

good CG (pic related) > good retro animation > good modern animation > bad modern animation > bad retro animation > bad CG

In the year 2000 a company called Kyoto Animation was created. They made a show called Lucky Star completely by mouse and keyboard and thereby invented both digital animation and moe. This forever doomed anime to be shit.

Didn't look better.... newer shows have more better graphics than 70s 80s 90s crap..!

I just want my gory, nudity filled OVAs back

Find a way to make it profitable and they might consider.

The universe bends towards entropy.

Create a pay-per-view online streaming service that works on smarttvs to host them and older content (for less/longer per yen). Give it marlboro miles to accumulate towards buying BRDs of certain content, including exclusives, at a significant discount.

Doesn't sound like a very Japanese thing to do.

I'm an old anime fan, but I think shows look good today. I still like the old look and everything, but computers have improved animation in a lot of ways.

They don't have ridiculously overpriced luxury services marketed to nerds?

Netflix

Enough said.

>good CG (pic related)

I hope he was joking. I'm a KemoFure fan, but the CG is garbage.

jesus christ that looks like ass
pic related is in the same category of cringy CG but will still get views cuz le sexy twins

Netflix doesn't do payperview, though. That is essential. As is BRD only sequels. The goal is to revitalize the market for gory nudie OVAs.

I don't like Kemono Friend's style at all. The show's alright, but it doesn't represent modern animation as a whole, and is an outside exception

Onihei is exactly like Cowboy Bebop.

Being a brother of two younger siblings I always thought this Twincest stuff was creepy as fuck being exposed to the real concept of this.

But I've always assumed the people who write such character must be single children who had a fetish about having a fuckable sibling.

>Watch cobra not to long ago
>Fall in love with the detail put into each episode
>Jump to OVAs
>Looks decent
>CGI Crystal Boy

It didn't ruin the episodes for me but holy shit, what a bad decision. He can't even open his mouth.

There's no reason you wouldn't be able to recreate that look on a computer. You can look at digital art created by people who aren't talentless nostalgiafags to validate this yourself.

from my armchair psychologist perspective, I’ve noticed that most people I’ve met irl who are into incest are either a) single children or b) not close at all with their siblings

Which show do you think would look better?

Anime with an unlimited money, the best animators in to ever live, and an infinite supply of Korean slave animators, but the storyboards don't exist until the day before airing and the storyline is completely rewritten several times during broadcasting
Or a low budget anime where the mediocre animators know months in advance what they have to draw

Does it take longer to do?

Those look like shit compared to the classics

not enough post processing effects in the 2010 version

Forced animation.

Thematically and compositionally perfect.

You bet it does. An entire episode of moeshit can be produced in the time it takes to create one frame of true animation.

If only time could turn back....

I'd settle for resetting Japan's anime buying tastes to 80s mode.

That much shading looks bad

Same show, same episode even

OP you still here? If 80s anime look so great then surely you can get this correct.

>DTP
Ah yes.

>80s style
>nose and chin straight out of the 90s
>shoulders arent up to the Adam's apple

>Wtf

I don't think they do for the most part. There were a lot of oversized foreheads. If a lot of work was put into the animation, sure; I love the look of frame-by-frame cel-animation - especially when it comes to action sequences. I just prefer the style of later decades.

Now this is how you do fanservice.

>> Forced animation

The fuck?!

lower-left, upper-middle, upper-right

No it's not.

Incorrect.

Bottom. Obviously.

>it's another 'muh 80s was better' episode

Old anime had a certain look that was the product of its time due to different trends and tools used. Still, I wouldn't say it looked better but rather different. There's still good-looking anime to be found today.

None of them.

Bottom is from the 10s
The rest are 80s

Can you stop replying to your own charts and then correcting yourself?

Can't stop wont stop

Urusei Yatsura's animation is flawless

Still better that today.

Actual animation might have improved.

Thank you for taking the time to edit this with inspect element or photoshop you overly defensive faggot.

>2000's
needs less detail

what's this?

>with inspect element or photoshop
Or I used to 4chanX button.

B-But muh 6 second long cherrypicked scenes!
Source is in the metadata.

>not browsing vanilla with YotsubaB
Hardly surprising a chronic shitposter such as yourself would be new enough to even consider extensions like that. 4chanx is the defacto newfag litmus test. Pretty handy, really.

Shingo Yamashita's work in the Yozakura Quartet OVA remains his best work as a key animator. What a sequence.

Fixed that up for you

Macross

>bad modern animation > bad retro animation
I don't think so. HD really makes the bad animation look worse than it could. Look at DBZ, it looked pretty bad half of the times but still better than everything Toei is pumping out now. HD kind of makes the quality stand out like a sore thumb.

>Binding your cage to your anti-cage.

Playing with anitmatter fire there, Lum.

This right here.

Hell, I feel like trash since I adopted the catalog when that came along.

This. I miss having to manually refresh threads. I miss having to wade through countless spam threads on the front page, or 10 K-On generals. If only we could go back to the good ol' days of 4ch and anime.

It really doesn't though. The best today easily beats the best then, and same can be said for like a median or mean quality. If you prefer the aesthetic back then, fine, but technology has made things better and saying otherwise is simply denial

>The best today easily beats the best then
This is from the 80s.

>The best today easily beats the best then
No it doesn't. Animated works from the 80s still looking fucking incredible unless you thing digital filters or something is vital to good animation.

Good animated works*

This is from now.

Both are how to draw anime level

Hey, don't be a faggot because you didn't know any better and never got used to older things.

Patlabor 2 was the 90s you cunt.

I don't know if you're shitposting with that image but that reflection in the first imagine looks nice as fuck

they are "meme-ing"
