I read it last month. Good book. Does an excellent job at portraying your average decadent, self-interested, hedonistic French academic and how such an untenable society, that is Europe at large, is doomed to Islamic subjugation if it doesn't rediscover the sacred religious principles on which it was founded. Of course we all know this isn't going to happen and we're all rocketing into the 'bad end' with France, Sweden and Germany leading the way.
The whole reason I read Submission after hearing a plot summery, was me wondering if my own spiritual yearning was something merely fashionable of if it was in fact sincere. If I'm simply clinging to Christianity for a utilitarian sake or if I'm actually capable of truly embracing it with my whole heart. I'm not sure I found anything to confirm this question one way or the other in this book but has left me wanting to now read Huysmans for myself sometime in the future and see if I can relate to anything in his books regarding belief.
