Since Season 3 is never happening because dude weed lmao, how is the manga? I heard the next arc after where the anime ends is mahjong and I don't understand it at all. I've read most of the other FKMT works that don't have to do with mahjong.
Just watch Akagi, that alone teaches enough mahjong.
You can read it, scanlators included rules. It's not real mahjong but a simplified version where both guys start one step away from victory.

Pachinko arc was a mistake.
The Kaiji anime was from a better time. Before QT girls and moeblobs dominated the market and everything either had to be a self-insert harem or SoL featuring nothing but women to pander to perma-virgin nips. Kaiji wouldn't have a chance to get animated if they tried today.
Mahjong arc was a mistake.
Anyways, the author has seriously a problem with dragging on series, same with Akagi and the rest of his other manga.
