I didn't get any serious qualifications, though. I got 3 A levels, none of them above a C, and my GCSEs were average. My employment prospects were shit to start with, so I was in retail and menial labour for a few years. I got into uni but quit in the 2nd year when I realised it was all a scam (seriously, they tried to get away with out-of-date PowerPoints and subjects we covered in college).
The only thing I did right was I got a desk job that was for practically minimum wage, then proved myself and made myself valuable to them. It took a couple of years, but I went from doing full time work for £15k a year, to part-time and earning £12k. If you can show a company that you're not only useful but also willing to do all the work expected but in less time and for less money, they want to keep you around.
The old adage of "work smarter not harder" is never truer than for a man that can't be bothered.
