Evangelion is almost 22 years old

>evangelion is almost 22 years old
had it aged well?

There is an Eva thread every single day. I think its held up, well enough.

>tfw I still haven't watched it despite being on Sup Forums for almost a decade now

first Eva episode is just 6 days older than me, so 22 doesn't seem that much

Like a fine bag of milk.

Someday you'll make a "what the fuck did I watch" thread and rejoice.

Embarrassing

if that is somehow true, then it's not worth it because of the massive spoilers posted in here ad infinitum, it's just not the same

ehhh it's aged fairly well but because of it's popularity and how much it's been copied some of the things it did to deconstruct cliches, have now actually become cliches which makes them lose value.

Very well, the BDs are pretty good, and details the beautiful cell animation. You will never see anime look this good again, ever; they don't make cells anymore.
Retard. More like you've been here since the elections.

It's still the best anime ever, after all this time.

It's even better than some of my favourite movies.

Remember Sup Forums, Mother's Day is coming up. Have you hugged your mom recently?

Jokes on you, i loss mine.

Did she get turned into a giant robot?

Anyone else wanna just jump in that little inflatable boat and paddle around?

>Robot

user, I...

Nope, it's shit utter shit.

This is half the reason why I haven't watched it; because I pretty much know everything that happens.

The other reason is because it just seems like 2deep4u nonsense.

I'd play with your dinghy user

Just watch it faggot, you can't spoil eva.

Oh yes you can. It's like Ideon but with a generic boring protagonist who has a harem. There I just saved you 20+ episodes of pure dogshit.

I want to go swimming.

Fight me, nerd. I was planning on it anyway.

Tell me where to torrent it now that nyaa is dead.

I never watched the movie. You know the one with the masturbation. I watched the other ones.

how tf does unit 01's mouth work? no mouth? robotic jaw? huh?

Nyoo.moe

Search for Sephirotic

It's not a goddamn robot

It's a living thing

>shinji, get in your mum

So you watched the trash instead of the good shit, huh?

>0 seeds

Guess I can wait another decade.

Is that a freudian thing

That site can't show seeds since nyaa is down

There's at least 20

it's like a deep metaphor for rebirth and junk, man.

Ayy

>It's like Ideon
You would have to have watched neither Ideon or Eva to come to that conclusion.

Nyaa.pantsu.cat

Nice

>had it aged well?
Like a good wine.

Just finished re-watching it a few days ago. Not only has it aged very well - but it reveals how much the refinement of taste in the medium has declined over the last 2 decades. It highlights through its narrative quality, story structure, tight characterization and overall general execution just how bloated, lazy, uninspired and formulaic anime has become.

its worth watching, if for any other reason as a tangible source for the above accusations to be made. It's also probably better that you didn't watch it right when you got into anime as it's famously a deconstruction of old tropes and you miss that completely if its one of your first. You get to ironically watch it the way it was meant to be watched.
It's also one of the few anime that actually conveys scale properly. Even if you do not like the genre it's a cornerstone for anime that actually breaks into being a work that should be noticed outside of anime fandom. That said, if you "refuse" to watch or don't want to watch just to be contrarian, then I wouldn't recommend it. It's also no where near as philosophical as some of the die-hard fans try and prop it up as.

It was sort of to Anime at the time what Pulp Fiction was to film - even people who hated it had to acknowledge it changed the medium.

They've not even allowed it to age.

It's so ageless you could call it the Curse of Eva
SASUGA ANNO

It's hard to say 'has this aged' when they've redone it and remastered it at least twice, not even sure what the purpose of Rebuild is and who it's actually for, but even that isn't even finished yet, it's like they'll scared it fade from history if a fresh piece of new Eva media isn't thrust into the Japanese consciousness every 5 seconds.

HAs it changed the medium though?

We can certainly say that SAO and Love live have changed how studios approach anime trying to churn out Multimedia projects of vast scales with huge merchandising capabilities. But did EVA result in any tangible change to the industry or what stories get written or adapted?

I'm legitimacy interested, i have watched the series but it was so long ago that i have stopped watching anime twice then come back since then.

>HAs it changed the medium though?
Have you watched ANY show before and after Eveangelion released? You have to be a special kind of new if you think SAO and Love Live changed things but are unsure if Eva did.

Well yes actually, never watched anime as a kid and only really started as a hobby in 2013. Currently 21 so i understand im behind the curve on the medium before 2010.

What are sum gud character driven psychodramas animu that came after Eva?

It's literally essential though.

There is some good old pic of someone who must be 50+y/o toda ranting on a forum pre-2000 (or talking about how he used to rant) about how 99% of anime were always the same formulaic shit made to sell toys and merchant since the 70's, and once a while something that tries to be more than that surges, get massive appraise, but the medium goes back to the shit state it was before.
Eva is just one of those outliners.

Yes, it has. I really don't think there has been a work as influential as Evangelion in the last two decades.

the impact is in the character archetypes, Asuka was not the first tsundere, but the archetype became more popular after that, Shinji made popular the broken MC, it just got ruined with the current beta faggots, Rei clones for everyone and their mother, also it made the existential crisis shit popular, the effects were so long ago that we take it for granted now, but just take a look in older animu and you will see that the trends were very different

Do you think hardcore Tusndere characters and broken MCs have made anime better since EVA? Shinji was not too bad but asuka was Tsun done terribly bad and we still get trashy tsun characters but broken MC not that often.

>had it aged well?

I didn't think it was even that good watching it my first time. Saw a lot of the inspiration behind eva before ever seeing it, and while good work by anno, it's just an okayish series.

>dude the rebuilds
Not rating those rating the original aired series

For me Asuka is a good tsundere, because her tsun was to protect her from her own insecurities, which is a nice contrast with how Shinji deals with things, they are complementary characters in my opinion, and about Shinji's archetype it's easy to confuse broken character with just a beta male, which is what happens most of the time, Shinji has issues that kinda justify his loneliness, most beta faggots don't

the fanbase hasn't cause they're still making shitty fucking memes and rehashing unfunny jokes from 20 years ago

dead horse has rotted away now they're just beating the rock bottom

>Asuka
>Tsundere
She has many more facets than the classic tsundere. She is only tsundere on the superficial level, as a "bait and switch" for the later chapters when we see the real her.

Which is why she is a good tsundere in the first place, she didn't stay boxed in her archetype, when most tsunderes fail because of that

I can't count the times I watched it now and I still enjoy the shit out of it every time.

I'm in the same boat as you but I've watched more shit pre 2010 than post. Please don't tell you you are a shitter who only watches new anime

I mostly watch Attack on Titan

I tried in Japanese as Sup Forums suggested me, but they screamed too much

Thankfully the dub is of high quality

Utena, Lain, Haibane Renmei, Casshern Sins, Kaiba, Penguindrum, Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent come to mind. Some that failed at it as well like Betterman, Rahxephon or Neo Ranga and thus has been forgotten

Well, I'd say the influence was pretty big. Before avant garde storytelling, psychological stories and more creative visual direction have been a thing, but only in movies and OVAs. Eva introduced that to tv. It also changed the formula to be less episodic from the start. I mean think about a lot of the shows after Eva, especially originals and compare them to the stuff before it. You won't find anything like not only Eva in tv, but also nothing like stuff done by Abe/Ueda, Ikuhara, Yuasa, Kon, Imaishi etc. have done.

>Before avant garde storytelling, psychological stories and more creative visual direction have been a thing, but only in movies and OVAs. Eva introduced that to tv.
>It also changed the formula to be less episodic from the start
>I mean think about a lot of the shows after Eva, especially originals and compare them to the stuff before it.

I really hate delusional Eva newfags. If you want to put it into a perspective that's easy for you to understand, imagine if your post was praising Naruto in the same way. That's how you look to me, you are a casual.

>Before avant garde storytelling, psychological stories and more creative visual direction have been a thing, but only in movies and OVAs. Eva introduced that to tv
Gundam did this in 1978. Gundam figuratively invented anime.
There's a reason Anno says he wants Eva to be like Gundam, there's a reason why Gundam is the greatest of all time, there's a reason why even the most normal of fags know Gundam but not Eva.

I rewatched it recently. Anytime it's being serious it holds up well despite its age; when it get silly in the episodes after Asuka is introduced, eh..

Is it worth watching the whole 40 episode Ideon series or is the 1st movie good enough?

Sephoric's release would be perfect if he didn't decide to split EoE into two episodes for no reason.

There is a file that opens them as 1 file you dork.

Anime generally doesn't age, unless it wasn't that good in the first place, and only got popular based on cool new ideas, and later had clones that did everything better. Evangelion was always good, and never got any better clones, so it's still good.
Gundam is an example of the inverse, it does nothing that for example isn't done by Nadesico, so Gundam aged poorly. People liked it because it was unique, not because it was good, and it no longer is any unique, so it aged poorly.

>Is it worth watching the whole 40 episode Ideon series
Yes. Watch all the episodes except for the last, then watch the 2nd movie.

>You will never see anime look this good again, ever
>It's still the best anime ever
>Tell me where to torrent it
>but it reveals how much the refinement of taste in the medium has declined over the last 2 decades

>Before avant garde storytelling, psychological stories and more creative visual direction have been a thing, but only in movies and OVAs. Eva introduced that to tv. It also changed the formula to be less episodic from the start.

No, it wasn't. It's plot is really straightforward and lots of it is episodic. Even condensing it to a film didn't change that at all. Tomino's visual direction was always bland, even in his less typical stuff like the Ideon film or Turn A.

Eva was also inspired by Ultraman but the show surpassed it, as it did with Gundam or Devilman.

Aged like fine LCL

>fine LCL
>FLCL
>Gainax did evangelion
Its all coming together

>Eva
>surpass Gundam and Devilman
lol

>22 years
Hahaha...ha...
Goddamnit.

Yes.

Your opinions are wrong.

>FLCL
Literally the same under a different sauce. Sadamoto's sameface doesn't help either.

>There are people who could have watched this with their parents and still be legally allowed to post here

This show is older than me. I didnt watch until I was 17 either.

babby's first waifu show, it effectively "killed" anime by creating waifu wars and instigating moe not that I'm personally complaining or think that was bad.

I just recently got around to watching it and I have to say I as missing out the whole time.
That show was a goddamn roller coaster. (I say while knowing exactly how cliche it is) It was truly beautiful to behold and I can't wait to jump in for a second viewing knowing what I do now.
Also the end of eva movie filled my head with more fuck than I could possibly deal with. I already watched the movie twice just to fully grasp what I just witnessed. I've never felt that way walking away from a movie in my life.
The only way I could end this is by saying I wish I wasn't so retarded so I could put into words what this show did to me that day. Fucking art

also mfw the whole movie

Even on the cherry-picked shots that are chose for this picture you can see some really interesting shot composition while the ones in Ideon are really basic. Not to mention most of Ideon is really repetetive and it could easily lose over half of the episodes and half of the scenes in the rest. It relies on heavy exposition instead of visual storytelling. The characters are pretty shallow and the ending istead of being profound comes off as cheesy.

If you do watch it, save yourself the disappointment and don't watch the last two episodes, delete them and download end of evangelion, it's a little better.

It aged better than all of us will.

Still good anime.
Still horseshit characters.

I know
I know I've crashed you down
I've been a fool to Maimen
I thought that I could fly with you again

But now
Through all the extreme pain
It's time for me to respect
The biggest guys mean more than anything

So with hotness in my head,
i feel the best thing I can do
is call it in, and leave forever
What's done is done, it flies so bad
what once was flying, now is crashed
I'll never fly again, my plane is falling.

I wish, that I could turn back time
Cause now the plane isn't mine
Can't fly without the wings outside your plane
I know we can't forget their cuffs
You can't forget his great plan
Because of that, he's punching my own pan

It all returns to nothing,
It all comes crashing down, crashing do-own
It all returns to nothing,
I just keep letting them down, letting them down

In my plan of plans,
i know that i can never fly again
I've lost everything,
everything
everything that matters to Smee,
matters in this film

How can someone be so plebian?

Considering the original series looks and feels massively superior to the Rebuilds, I would say so.

Digital was a mistake.

>Digital was a mistake.
It wasn't, it's just not for that kind of show. There are lots of great looking digital show and the variety now far surpasses what it used to be.

Name one.

This. Digital is the reason anime in 1990 doesn't look like anime in 1970. Digital is the reason anime right now doesn't have the same general style it did in 2004. Fuck digital.

Evangelion has earned it's place but no one can deny that now, but a far greater question remains
Evangelion has also been generating doujinshi for 22 years now

What is its best doujinshi?

Re-Take

The fuck was that? Where was all the fucking?
2/10

Doujinshi does not necessarily mean that something is primarily porn or even contains porn at all.

This one

...

>renge is almost 21 years old

Kaiba
Tatami Galaxy
Mononoke
Ping Pong
Casshern Sins
Kyousougiga
Mawaru Penguindrum
Woman Named Fujiko Mine
Mob Psycho
Tale of Princess Kaguya
Kuuchuu Buranko
Gankutsuou
Redline
Metropolis
Mind Game
Tekkon Kinkreet

I dare you to match this many works with this amount of variety with cel animation.

Eva aged poorly compared to it's inspiration: Akira - which has aged fantastically and is even better now than when I watched it on VHS years ago. Suppose if the ending was thought out better Eva could've aged well and EoE couldn't even bridge a fourth of the gap between the two.

Excuse the intrusion, but I couldn't help but notice you typed Mob Psycho when what you meant to type is One Punch Man. Figured I would FTFY. Cheers.
