What's pol's opinion of Rommel?

What's pol's opinion of Rommel?

History painted him as the only hero worth forgiving on the side of the Nazis. This is because he opposed the war as soon as it became apparent it was unwinnable and even was involved somewhat in Valkyrie. He was even (tragically) forced to commit suicide to save his family possible torture.

He was also a brilliant tactician but criticised for being too risky. All together though he was not directly blamed for the defeat in Africa.

Personally I think for a, statist bootlicking authoritarian cucktard fascismo, he was the best one and had a cool nickname, *the desert fox,* but I was wondering if any of the Nazi fags on this board had some kind of resentment towards him because I would find that hilarious and ironic?

with his family as a young man.. usually not shown in documentaries

the guy died to insure their safety and his son has even spoke on some documentaries and apparently he was very proud of his father

Disgustin traitor , if you commit to a cause you don't leave it halfway and turn on your fellow comrades.
On another note he believed the lies that were spread around . Absolute brainlet
Hess was better than this cuck

He was hardly the best German officer of the war although he is the most well known, but men like Manstein deserve far more recognition than him.

That being said, nothing could have saved the German war effort in Africa, and to be quite honest as soon as Germany declared war on the USSR it was all over for them.

Iron Guard>Nationalsocialism

Da?

Yeah lol because fighting till the last man was better for GERMANY!??????

YOU DO REALIZE THAT AFTER ABOUT TWO YEARS ANYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN COULD SEE THAT GERMANY WAS HEADED TOWARDS DEFEAT AND TOTAL DISASTER!??!

BETTER TO SUE FOR PEACE AND KEEP SOME DIGNITY!!!!!

Motherfuckers at the top are usually just afraid of the noose but even then they can escape like many did to argentina!

IRONICALLY ITS THE TOTAL WAR FIGHT TO THE LAST MAN ATTITUDE WHICH LED TO GERMANY BECOMING UBER NEOLIBERAL AND ELECTING LEADERS LIKE MERKEL AS A SORT OF KARMIC CONSEQUENCE OF THEIR BLEMISH IN HISTORY!!! HITLER'S ACTIONS DIRECTLY LED TO THE IMMIGRANT CRISIS TODAY! IF THEY HAD SURRENDERED EARLIER GERMANY MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO KEEP SOME FUCKING DIGNITY AND NOT BE SPLIT IN HALF EITHER!!

ONLY IDIOTS FIGHT TO THE LAST MAN HURR DURR TOTAL WAR HURR DURR WE ARE THE CHOSE ONES HURR DURR WE MUST DIE HURR DURR FUCKING HITLER WAS SO FUCKING GAY HE TOLD EVERYONE IN GERMANY THAT THEY SHOULD KILL THEMSELVES HAHAHAHAHA WHAT A FAGGOT! I GUESS HE THOUGHT REAL LIFE WAS LIKE AN ANIME OR VIDEO GAME LOLOL!

JUST AMERICAN NEEDS TO FUCKING PULL THE EJECTION HANDLE ON THE FAILED WAR ON TERROR AND WAR ON DRUGS.

SOME FUCKING WARS ARE UNWINNABLE. A FUCKING INTELLIGENT MAN ACCEPTS THAT AND ADAPTS. TRYING TO FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL FOR SOMETHING IMPOSSIBLE WILL ONLY **DEFEAT YOU IN THE PROCESS***

He's the epitome of a hero, he served his country even under a regime he didn't agree with. He never betrayed the Nazi regime, he was approached for the plot, declined, and didn't notify authorities. Nazi Germany was a sinking ship, they just wanted to kill Hitler and surrender to the allies so they wouldn't get raped and bombed to death by the Soviets and the Brits.

His only flaw was his ego, he didn't listen to his logistics officers and preferred to rely on his tactical skill to outmaneuver his enemies.

Anglos jumped on the Rommel meme to justify their defeats in North Africa rather than admitting their own stupidity.

>as soon as Germany declared war on the USSR it was all over for them.
Exactly.. and Rommel was the most famous general to advocate for surrender!

He knew what was objectively the right thing to do. Many good german men died. Many good german women were raped by Russians. Half of Germany was enslaved by communism. All of this could have been avoided by negotiating for peace with the british and americans. And furthermore the legacy of the Nazis created the german guilt which directly led to the policies that are ironically raping germany today. It's likea greek tragedy really!

they won overall though

Heinz Guderian was tops as far as tacticts
"There are no desperate situations, there are only desperate people"

Rommel did advocate for surrender though. That much is known. Or at least he talked about it in private to other officers. I think I saw in the documentary that he kept saying how the war is a lost cause and they need to cut their losses prontol.

Yeah, the military of Germany wasn't always the greatest fan of Hitler, because they actually knew what the German military could achieve and could see what that egomaniac was dragging Germany into. It's a shame none of their attempted coups worked.

Rommel argued for a negotiated peace, as with Jodl.
The priority for any commander is to end hostilities as quickly as possible

Overrated.

You wouldn't know about him if it wasn't for Brits pretending that Northern Africa mattered. Seriously, you have people like Jodl or von Mannstein around and Rommel is the guy everybody should recognize?

Was it like that among the SS also? Surely they could not all have been fanatical zealots? I always imagined the skull on their caps to be like a way of them admitting "we are doomed." Or maybe the skull became that later.

Da!

IF so many were against the war then how come not once were they able to put a bullet in Hitler and Himmler?

...

The British forces in North Africa were enormously stronger than the DAK and the Italian forces. On the ground, however, things were different. British tactical thought was behind the German equivalents in 1941-2, and while everyone likes to focus on the logistical constraints the Germans faced, the British had quite a lot of problems too, especially when they pushed west of Tobruk; it's not exactly a surprise that Rommel's offensives did so well against strung out half-exhausted units, and the only battle he really faced in a pitched mode when outnumbered in detail and won was Gazala.

But of course, it's hard to break down all the little tactical and operational details for a military amateur like Churchill, let alone the general public. And it sure looked like the British forces should be able to send Rommel back to Europe with little trouble. But they seesawed, and endured months long sieges, and had a damn tough time of it.

So what do you do if you're someone like Aulinchek, or Wavell, trying to justify this lackluster performance to your civilian boss? They won't understand the actual factors, if they even have the patience for it. So you hype up Rommel as some kind of god-tier general, a modern Napoleon. And then of course, Rommel's involvement in the July 20 plot made him palatable to admire post-war in a way that other German generals like Kesselring or Model weren't.

The SS was literally made to be a branch of the German military that was loyal to Hitler instead of Germany. Hitler knew that he wasn't all that well liked by the military, so he created the SS and while it began as a bodyguard unit it soon grew as he wanted it to have more power to be able to challenge the Wehrmacht and discourage a coup.

Guderian designed the modern battlefield
true visionary as far as tactics, his book 'Achtung -Panzer!' spelled out blitzkrieg before the war but the bongs and surrender-monkeys didn't bother to read or learn from it. France had bigger tanks and more of them, but deployed them in small units and got smashed. In 1940, the German 6th army was probably the best army the world has ever seen.

>The British forces in North Africa were enormously stronger than the DAK and the Italian forces.

Not even close to true. Throughout the North African campaign, the British were at a stark numerical disadvantage, especially early on when the Italians outnumbered them 8:1.

He wasn't involved in Valkyrie.
It's a meme. Its believed he was "aware" of the plot but opposed it as it would lead to civil war between the NSDAP loyalists and rebels and make Germany easy to conquer.

>Anglos jumped on the Rommel meme to justify their defeats in North Africa

But they didn't lose in North Africa. They won. Decisively.

Hitler was extremely random. He kept his schedule this way to avoid being killed. Plus, his most loyal (non-Prussian) guard were fanatics and may have been lied to as far as the way the eastern front was progressing.

German forces in North Africa initially consisted of nothing, it was the Italians job. Compass demonstrated that two divisions could easily crush 7 Italian ones.

Then, when we get to the Germans themselves, we only get 3 divisions by December of 1941. By that point, the British have 6 divisions in Crusader itself, and if we count an independent brigade as roughly 1/3 of a division, we have another whole division and a second understrength one. That is of course ignoring other troops left behind in Egypt, or the ones fighting in Syria.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Crusader_order_of_battle

his last words were "i always loved the fuhrer".

These are Finnish soldiers, not the Waffen SS. Their uniforms are massively different.

Guderian didn't really "invent" anything.
None of his ideas was included in German military manuals until 1940, it's just that Germans didn't believe in "methodical battle" like French did in the interwar period. Even in the Weimar era, German military was extremely offensive-oriented, in a way you can say that German doctrine was more "classical" than that of the French, it's just that misguided innovation leads nowhere.

Guderian's influence can be seen in 2 major areas:
>procurement plan for medium tanks(2 types of those) and assault guns(think of Stug).
>Ardenne offensive gamble(that paid off).

>Iron Guard
Is about to *R*U*S*T*

Look kid.. There are literally some fights that you cannot wint. Why fight them? There are other ways to hedge against externalities than just opposing them directly. In fact that's called asymmetric warfare and the way that guys like the ISIS keep America spending trillions TO HELP THEM RECRUIT MORE ISIS MEMBERS. America should find their own version of asymmetrism, which probably should be very isolationist.

Same with Drugs. No one has ever successfully made their citizens stop using narcotics.. it's impossible and even under the most auspicious circumstances drug addicts still figure out how to get their shit and the drug war just incentivises them spreading their addiction because some of them need money and want to get people to middle man to. But even in the most dire times people would literally figure out how to make the drugs chemically if they had to. Changing how humans feel has become ingrained into their instincts to the point where it's impossible to stop directly. An indirect, compassionate method of reduction needs to be sought out. Like education and prevention. Stopping people from becoming addicts in the first place but treating people already addicted with compassion so they dont spread their lifestyle!

realized that Hitla was a fucking mole agent of Vatican who's goal was to sabotage the white race

decided to kill the rat.. but fucked up

after the war the story was fucked up by vatican via their controlled jew hollywood and media

and all those who conspired against Hitla were shown as if they were all for niggers jews and fags and as if Hitla was the racist

but in fact it was the Hitla fag who was the mole along with his mogrel staff who weren't even white

Hitla himself was a fucking 56% mongrel..

Rommel was a based white guy.. but he was also i romantic and a fool not to see the Hitla's tricks before it was too late

in any case.. germans were always to dumb to think and to fast to follow orders

germans are just not very good analitics. they are more of planners and doers, then abstract thinkers

they are pretty good soldiers in any case

Are you okay? You seem like you’re having a stroke. Additionally: The Germans had numerous opportunities to achieve victory, and to say that the war was lost by 1941 is utterly retarded.

agreed, the combination of artillery and infantry with close air support wasn't his, Cambrai, France 1917 gave a blueprint.

this video is really cute

This is literally "if you're not nice to muslims they will kill you" tier.

Americans suffer from middle of the road strategy in war against terror. The British do it all colonial style, with getting cordial governors do all the work for them and essentially ensuring they aren't seen as occupying force. The Soviets were simply brutal as fuck and murdered everybody who opposed them. Americans meanwhile go into some local community, be it village, town or district and arrest people who they think of as terrorist.
Catching terrorist like that won't make anybody less likely to become one and arresting the wrong guy will encourage them to be terrorists. Killing his entire family(in front of cameras so EVERYBODY can see that you have no remorse) and burning village to the ground while taking suspect to torture chamber causes them to fear and discourages them from resistance. Fooling people into thinking that they in fact govern themselves and there's no occupation going on(none at all) makes the terrorist propaganda fall on deaf ears.

The middle ground never works.

>to save his family possible torture
That sounds like a wonderful place to live! Truly NatSoc is an ideology that whites should aspire to. Fuck off. NatSoc appeals to the lowest common denominator even more then democracy does.

So he's a Nazi and he's dead. I don't see a problem with that.

oh yeah forgot to say that the smoker's rights dude that was an anti drug nark shill fukken died of lung cancer just a few years after that interview LOL

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morton_Downey_Jr>he would >chainsmoke during the show and blow smoke in his guests' faces.
>In June 1996, Downey was diagnosed with lung cancer while being treated for pneumonia, and had one of his lungs removed.[45] He did a complete about-face on the issue of tobacco use, going from a one-time member of the National Smokers Alliance to a staunch anti-smoking activist.
>After being diagnosed with lung cancer, he commented, "I had spawned a generation of kids to think it was cool to smoke a cigarette. Kids walked up to me until a matter of weeks ago, they'd have a cigarette in their hand and they'd say, 'Hey, Mort,' or, 'Hey, Mouth, autograph my cigarette.' And I'd do it."[2] He also blamed tobacco companies for lying to consumers about cigarettes

OF COURSE THIS GUYS IS SUCH AN AUTHORITARIAN KEK THAT INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY IS THE LAST THING HE WOULD BLAME FOR HIS OWN LUNG CANCER! INSTEAD ITS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSES FAULT AND THEREFORE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SHOULD CONTROL EVERYONE'S LIVES BUT DO IT "THE RIGHT WAY." HAHAHA ITS LIKE SAYING SOCIALISM JUST HASNT BEEN DONE THE RIGHT WAY BEFORE..

Fucking authoritarian bootlicking shills. Not everything that you dont like should be banned and not everything you like should be federally subsidized. People need to make their own choices and have a right to make mistakes. If you do something stupid then it's your fault for not researching it more. I took medicine which could give me stomach cancer whihc my grandfather died from. I dont blame the drug companies or MY OWN FREEDOM.. but rather my own stupidity!

Cmon dude people in this board don't actually know anything about history they just spout "muh hitler" memes

And even then when you look at French doctrine - they believed that any advance is impossible without close coordination between those forces. You know, the French doctrine that has failed badly.

The conspiracy theories get stranger by the day.

For anyone interested in Rommel, I recommend Colonel Hans von Luck's memoirs "Panzer Commander". He was one of Rommel's most loyal and successful officers. An intellectual with a gun, fluent in German, English, French, Italian, Russian, Latin and ancient Greek. A man who fought from the first to the very last day at all fronts of the war. A brilliant officer who had shown outstanding bravery on the one side but also fairness towards his enemies. On D-Day he commanded the German units who first had contact with American paratroopers the night before D-Day. Years after the war he met the American officer by accident and they became close friends until their ends.
If you can spare a few bucks and are interested how a Russian breakfast in in 1941 saved Colonel von Lucks life in Stalin's gulag- buy this book. I promise you you won't be disappointed.

but they are French, failure is always an option

He wasn't a party member.

>NatSoc appeals to the lowest common denominator even more then democracy does.
FUCKING THANK YOU!

There was the Libertarian poster who must’ve been twelve and an expat from /r/The_Donald. He was utterly retarded, I honestly thought he was baiting. Probably the dumbest posters in this board.

I don't have anything against Rommel but it is obvious that the western allies hyped him up after the war because they defeated him. By making Rommel look like a super badass it makes the US and Britain look even better because they beat him. Rommel wasn't really all he was made out to be in terms of military skill (he was definitely good, but not a God like postwar propaganda says). He had a bad habit of outrunning the supply lines and flubbing easy victories (Tobruk comes to mind). Also the idea of "clean" Rommel comes from that same post war propaganda strategy. Rommel definitely was not clean, he met Hitler and became one of his best friends because they were both WWI veterans and Rommel was one of the earliest members of the nazi party. Being one of Hitler's closest friends, he was privy to all of the policy decisions and he never objected to any of them or tried to convince Hitler not to do certain things so he was likely okay with them. Was he involved in the assassination plot? I'm 100% sure he wasn't. Did he know about the plot? Maybe. Regardless, he didn't deserve to die.
tl;dr he was a relatively skilled general who was hyped up by the allies after the war to make themselves look better

He was a true Chad btw

thanks user

thanks for staying in your thread OP
the only reason i'm still here

WOW I never noticed ROMMEL was BLACK!

I can tell you have never been to war.

Its not a video game. People die. Why continue to support a fucking retard who never listened to his commanders and kept sending your countrymen to die for absolutely nothing?

exactly right

The priority for any commander is to end hostilities as quickly as possible

>Libertarian posters

>Lowest common denominator
>Wants to live in a fairy tail fallout land with no government to tell him to stop being a degenerate

You are welcome.
Every now and then I must think about lucky Hans. One of the best reads I've ever had.

Nice guy, as friends of Hitler go. Promoted about 5 times past his level of competence

he was certainly a Great commander but I don't think he THAT much better than other Generals in the war, it helped that he took his own life when the SS came for him and that he was in a "clean" theatre. Anyone involved on the eastern front is always regarded as a participant to genocide and the fighting was much dirtier whereas the north african theatre wasn't remembered for mass atrocities

> can't even survive the system they preach.

A great man.
We need more men like him.

>how a Russian breakfast in in 1941 saved Colonel von Lucks life in Stalin's gulag- buy this book
but I want to read the story right now!

Rommel didn't join the party.

Total alpha in WW1, still alpha in WW2 and relatively nice to his enemies. But when so high-ranking person participates in a plot to overthrow his own leader I can't help but to think him as traitor too.

No, Rommel was destroying the bongs in North Africa until the Americans got involved, and he undoubtedly would have kept destroying them absent that US support.

And yes, the whole "desert fox" bit was pushed by the bongs to explain away their failures against him.

He was one of the few on the general staff that had a sense of honor

French were generally quite successful in warfare, it's just that their good passe broke in 1870 and ever since they just fucked everything up because of bad timing and conclusions.

Look at the infiltration tactics as an example.

Germans came up with it(well, really it was split between them and the Russians who did the same thing on the eastern front) and it ravaged the western front. How did the French react to it? Well first they've thought that the innovation Germans introduced in their artillery tactics(use of pre-calculated fire scheudle so they could nail all the enemy strongpoint minutes rather than hours or days after the offensive began, which meant that preparation barrage simply wasn't a thing anymore) was far more important than it, secondly they thought the infantry tactics was a hindrance. By taking all the best men to form stormtroop battalions they sacrificed the quality of their remaining units, and once stormtroopers were mostly dead or wounded, they couldn't keep the offensive going. Well as it turns out, it was very easy to go from infiltration by the elite infantry, to the infiltration by tanks and motorized infantry, as such Germans had the blueprint for success while the French(outside of their cavalry corps) ignored it.

manlet

it has never been proven that he was really involved in it

America wasn't involved when Krauts and Italians were btfo in Egypt.

but in all seriousness, he was a great general.
He was overly offensive, but it worked. He was probably coked up for a lot of the offensives. He would penetrate a section of a line and this generally causes your opponent to retreat his other lines too.
There's a question whether he would have prevented D-Day ; he was mostly an offensive general. Certainly with better preparation Germany would have defended the beaches better.
but they didn't bother defending them properly, as they expected the landing elsewhere. Then Hitler had Rommel killed for alleged involvence in a plot to kill hitler.
Rommel requested his coffin not be draped in Nazi regalia ; he also personally insisted his son not join the Waffen-SS (He probably knew what was happening with the genocide and wasn't on board with it.)
but his funeral was turned into a huge Nazi display of propaganda (and his death put down to injuries after an Allied aerial bombardment.)

>tl;dr he was a great soldier, a loyal patriot and admired by his opponents ; tells you everything

>America wasn't involved when Krauts and Italians were btfo in Egypt.

No they werent.
They joined later in Kasserine pass but that was 2 countries back.

Also, the defensive mindset brought about by the terrible losses suffered in the 14-18 war meant the frontier defenses protected Germany more than France. Verdun really unified France into this mindset.
French soldiers that I know are quite specialized, disciplined and smart. I know they were good soldiers in 1940, but defeatism from the home front and commanders inability to predict the Germans next move predetermined the 1940 surrender. However, the French built some great monuments to man's ignorance in the line of fixed fortifications.

Great man, but if you look at the wider picture there is hardly any reason he should be receiving this much recognition when other great generals like Guderian and Manstein also contributed so much to the war effort
Outside of the military, a good number of NSDAP party members have great life stories and are much better role models. Rudolf Hess, Goebbels and Hitler himself to name a few

yes but we had planes at the 2nd battle of El Alamein. That still counts

>Goebbels

Goebbels was a womanizer

He was a traitor, and when his country needed him most he tried to kill his commander in chief. He was a good 2LT though.

Haha yeah man HItler was great! If it wasnt for him, Germany wouldnt be the utopian and peaceful diverse socialist society it is today!

The opinion that he betrayed the Nazis is lies and conjecture. In reality he was actually friends with Hitler.

Tactically very good. Rommel, Guderian, Manstein and Model were the best of the war and no allied or Soviet could much any of then in individual skill.

they weren't so good since they got BTFO by fucking Russians lol

manlets, when will they ever learn

Rommel was never on the Eastern Front

He was better in WW1.

American policy is
>Get half assed Intel
>Deploy armed drone
>Shoot missle at Target
>Wait for first responders to attend to wounded
>Shoot missle at first responders
When I looked into it the terrorist to civilian kill count was 1:49. Every 50 shitskins killed kills one terrorist.

He didn't get laid until he was in his 30s, maybe he wasn't a great role model but he had an interesting personality and was a genius at his role as propaganda minister

That's a misconception. The idea of frontier defense became a real deal in late 1920's. The point was simple - the northeastern frontier was indefensible and opened a way for taking over 90% of French steel and 75% of their coal, some coal and iron mines were maybe few kilometers from their border. A death sentence to war economy. The conscription reforms(reducing the conscription period from 24 to 18 and then 12 months) meant that it was impossible to field enough troops there to keep it defended in this way, so they've had to fortify it heavily. French doctrine generally got progressively more defensive as the time went(rather than starting very defensively because hey - WW1 - and then getting less so), mostly because they knew their army is going to be awfully under-trained in the begging of the war.
Majority of the problems they've had stem from short conscription period and not having enough professionals. Their entire doctrine was adapted to it, with mistakes mostly concerning centralization of artillery(which has its advantages) and their view of infiltration tactics especially.
If you asked French General in 1923 how will the next war with Germany look like he'd tell you about quick offensive to get into defensive positions on Rhine, then getting the army fully trained and ready for actual offensive while in 1933 you'd hear about scrambling to get on Belgian-German border as soon as possible and defending until the army will be ready for the offensive. The difference was that the 1923 General could hope for reservists made of WW1 veterans that were still required to take part in preparatory training exercises every now and then or at least conscripts with 2 years of experience and far more professional soldiers while the 1933 could get little to no pros organized in a way that made any quick interventions impossible, conscripts who served 18 months at best and old WW1 veterans who didn't take part in any exercises for years now.

Fpbth! Hope that cyanide tasted real good.

yes, Goebbels was very good at his job. He was also the Gauleiter of Berlin and took credit for purging the city of reds

Amerimutts always larping as vets has to be one of the funniest things on this board. If the priority was what you said right there then you can pick total surrender and subjugation each and every time, you fucking retard. Not to even mention how many disastrous offensives there have been throughout history where a commander has tried to "end hostilities" and created a bloodbath for his own side. Please just shut up with this simple-minded Amerimutt garbage.

Yes, the Americans had to start resupplying the bongs after Rommel started destroying them, and then had to invade North Africa to divert Rommel from his bong destruction. That's the only thing that kept Rommel from destroying them completely.

well put, very well put indeed
i suppose the old burger propaganda takes a toll eventually

You are a disgrace, why are you living, just to live ? Those soldiers had meaning in thier lives, unlike you.

Not to mention that America had been openly pursuing a policy of unconditional surrender since early 1943. German Generals might well have been more successful in their attempts to oust Hitler had this not been the case. But then Americans have always fought wars like barbarians: they are no different to the Soviets in this regard.

>If the priority was what you said right there then you can pick total surrender and subjugation each and every time
so General Patton surrendered?
General Franks surrendered?
go back to the woods and come back as a man

>no different to the Soviets in this regard.
This is your brain on NatSoc

then there is also the make up of Italian divisions being much smaller than British divisions.

have read this, can confirm it is outstanding literature.

LOGISTICS MOTTAFUCKER! DO YOU SPEAK IT?
