Why is no one trying to write good mahou shoujo these days? Is the industry to blame?

It all turns into dark Madoka shit now unless you watch PreCure.

There's nothing wrong with that in theory if it turns out better than Madoka. The thing is it doesn't.

Mahou Shoujo was pretty much dead years before madoka

What else is there that doesn't other than the 2 seasons of the short we had last year?

>other than the 2 seasons of the short
Hmm?

>what else is there
Exactly

Because mahou shoujo isn't popular, I guess. Though there are still some good ones here and there.

>Hmm
Hmm what?
Oh yeah we had this too.

Because nobody has the attention span to watch long running monster-of-the-weeks anymore

>mahou shoujo isn't popular
Precure is popular, right?

Anime ruined Mahou Shoujo but the west has revived it with pretty good shows that actually carry a plot instead of just being lewd or edgy.

>but the west has revived it
The who did what now?

13 episode format was a mistake.

Because PreCure exists

>>mahou shoujo isn't popular
>Precure is popular, right?

But there hasn't been another mahou shoujo TV series to compete against Precure

There's not much good younger audience anime compared to previous decades.

Twin Angel Break

>good
>mahou shoujo

But we had flip flappers past year.

That's just your run-of-the-mill gainax experience. We've got more of those these days than actual gainax shows.

>Flip Flappers
>mahou shoujo

>Flip Flappers

Even if that were true, it's still not good, like OP asked.

The first nine episodes were fantastic. The rest was okay. That averages out to good.

>The first nine episodes were fantastic.
Yes.
>The rest was okay.
No, they were fucking shit.
>That averages out to good.
Only if you regard all episodes as equals like a dumb fag. The last third of the show is the most important, it's the climb to the climax and the climax itself. If you ruin that then the whole show is a complete waste.

>the last third of the show is the most important
I disagree. The main draw and appeal of the show to me was the sense of adventure of exploring different PIs. I wasn't really concerned about the true nature of PIs or the KKK's plot. I would have been totally fine if the show was just episodic adventures with no overall plot.

And besides, nips are always shit at endings.

That doesn't really disprove what I said. But, I do agree with you. All the stupid plot needed to sod off and the show should have been wacky PI adventures from start to finish. That would have been damn near perfect.

>The main draw and appeal of the show to me was the sense of adventure of exploring different PIs. [...] I would have been totally fine if the show was just episodic adventures with no overall plot.
Yeah no shit, that's why the entire finale of the show is considered shit by most people

Precure dominates the "not my edgy grimdark turns out the mascot pet is the evil overmind of this wicked operation like a player".

Everyone else fights for scraps in that market, you last contender was Keikaku and that was hot trash. Matoi did mediocre, aspects of mahou shoujo were there but the pacing and approach was either too rushed base on its time limits or just poor writing at times.

Because only old men watch Mahou Shoujo these days so they are made with that in mind. Not that that's a bad thing in itself, but the combination of both factors apparently ends up generating shit by default.
Young girls aren't that much into stuff like that anymore either, or at least the old men with money for BDs and figurines overshadow them. No worth in making something for a dead market.

What do kids watch these days then?

Yokai Watch, Doraemon, Conan, the same shit. That user is wrong though.

>Japan
>kids
user...

Some series really do acknowledge their predecessors while doing their own thing. To cast modern magical girls off as being grimdark when they've simply evolved to better accommodate changing demographics is a poor decision to make.

Look at the bright side, you can watch hidden gems from the past that you missed.

Keikaku was fantastic. The show was willing to do brutal and tragic things without overselling them the way many "edgy grimdark" shows do. If you hated it you must either love cliches, can't stand tragedy, or have no empathy.

Keikaku was the most by-the-numbers battle royaly plot I've seen in a long time

what > said.
I liked the tragic backstories but the actual plot was pretty shit. It was just forced conflict. Nothing really memorable. Yuyuyu was the same.

Last decent one was Pleiades. Personally I'm getting tired of all the edgy/battle mahou shoujo. It's like when you fap to too much /d/ stuff that you loop around and want some vanilla.

Everyone is just chasing afer the ghost of Madoka without really understanding what made Madoka good and just going for the 2edgy route

Nirvana is a pretty recent manga about a magical girl.

I feel you, OP. I wish we had a good mahou shoujo in recent memory.

This faggot never watched Houkago no Pleiades

But there is already a Mahou Shoujo series that turned out better than Madoka.

Pleiades was so fucking good. I have to buy the BD Box someday.

I enjoy things like Madoka or the Yuusha series from time to time, but its really those types of shows leave a lasting impression on me.
