The question I have is which denomination would best line up with my world views? Catholic here too. And yes, absolutely true what you say about the Church Fathers- read them with the Bible and you'll end up swallowing a bottle of redpills because they are some of the most based people who ever lived.
Start with the early ones- Justin Martyr, the Didache, the martyrdom of Polycarp, St. Anthony of the Desert, etc, and proceed from there. Don't forget the big ones, like St. Augustine's Confessions and St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa theologica, or the sermons of St. John Chrysostom. These saints did not shy away from tackling everything from the meaning of life to explaining in great detail why the Jews destroy every society they are allowed to get power in.
If there is a Catholic Church nearby that offers the traditional Latin mass (sometimes called Mass in the "Latin rite" or "extraordinary form"), I would recommend attending it. Novus Ordo (what most Catholic masses are) is not bad, but it really depends on the priest. Where I go to church they offer both Novus Ordo and Traditional Latin, and I attend both, and the priests are serious.
There are good Christians everywhere, just as there are bad Christians and idiot Christians. This goes for all denominations as well, Catholic or not. The point is that the fools and ignoramuses don't define what the Faith teaches. It's like the laws of physics- just because you think you are a bird and can fly doesn't mean you can, and if you jump of a building flapping your arms you'll just hit the ground and die like an idiot. What the Faith teaches remains the same regardless of what some fool thinks or how many fools there are that think otherwise. You will find if you start looking, however, that there is a stark difference between even the best of Protestant congregations versus the Catholic Church.
So take your time, read, and seek the truth. All the best to you.

That being said, I agree there is a difference in the demographic that professes certain values and the thoretical values themselves.
I would say he is an example of the act of "islam" if that makes sense. Islam is a process that has steps, states of being, and a forward path. I would definitely say he is not a typical Muslim, and a lot of the audience can probably not understand him entirely, though I don't know Cambridge very well.
The idea of a spiritual elite rings true in Islam, even more so than Christianity in my experience. According to Islamic though, these are the caliphs, or the successors of God on Earth who are meant to handle the affairs of the general people, sort of close to Plato's philosopher-kings.

Christianity was like this once, with roman emperors. A lot of islams culture was borrowed from the eastern christian traditions. Females wearing head scarves, the prostrations with prayer. These are old christian orthodoxy.
But also important to note, the classical european social order (which itself was, while perhaps a simplified version, based on the same kinds of thinking in the eastern empire) had three pillars, one of them were monks.
Monks were see as a base foundational element of the society. They were the ones who prayed. Ones to pray, ones to fight, ones to farm. These were the three. The importance here is realize that at a time having people just spending all day trying to be holy was considered as critical to the health and survival of society as having food.
So this is the immense spiritual drive that backed the creation of western society. No wonder then secularization is very detrimental overall to it.
One of my critisizms of islamd, by the way, is the seeming lack of proper ascetics. You cant judge a religion by its random practitioners, you need to look at how its holy men live, and how important they are considered within the religion.
Ascetics tend to all be more or less of the same character fundamentally, and they will moreover tend to latch on to which ever religion seems to suit proper asceticism that is available to them.
One of the issues with the western forms of christianity as opposed to more traditional eastern ones was the lack of good ascetic practices. In the east monks were philosophers, in the west they were scholars. Ultimately the west lost its ascetic core and tried to lump that responsibility onto the priests. The east has always considered priests to be a utilitarian position, allowing for the ascetic core to remain people who belonged there. In the west the strain of such a holy life was not possible for many, resulting in the whole protestant incident.
