In terms of message it's a (very very) poor man's Hyouka, and it's lack of good characters is an issue (bar aoyama and based jin-sama). MC isn't as total a shit as you claim, at least he actually gets some form of development, unlike 99% of anime.
It's a decent comedy. That's the bottom line. Yeah it's pretty trashy, yeah it doesn't have great characters or story line, but it's a solid comedy with an interesting premise and good art and soundwork.

Mashiro does literally three things in that show. She's a plot point. She's a tool for comedy. She's literally the waifu baitest of all waifu baits, there to satisfy the self instert fantasy of a cute autistic girl wanting your dick.
Aoyama is a legitimately interesting character. No, she isn't the most original character, but she's a consistent, realistic character, who acts as she does for legitimate, well explained reasons, who tries and fails and goes through legitimate human experiences.

The point about Hyouka was about message, not the show, but the fact you called it a snoozefest shows your shit taste.
