That because if the show a hard edge spy movie, with even slightly more realistic portrayals of murder and cruelty, the audience runs away crying and screaming. That's why such movies have to have bat shit stupid and silly sub plots. Link in Goldfinger where the one girl is a hopelessly bad shot but still feels brave enough to take on Goldfinger and his army. I personally would love to see a nightmarish movie that didn't plug race mixing or diversity and had torture victims show as damages but still sort of functional humans. I'd love to see such sub plots in a "gunslinger" type where heroes and villains can hit their targets quickly and accurately. Sort of like a western with modern technology and way more mean people on screen. The average movie goer would be afraid to go back to the theatre that played such a movie.
In a James Bond style, what if a side villain challenged Bond to a duel? Bond instead grabs a beaker of sulfuric acid, knocks the man down hard and pours the acid down the mans throat, killing him. The he looks at the horrified lab workers and coldly says "Duels are for gentlemen, not common trash." That would turn off the average audience member in a major way.
