How popular is anime in your country?

It's acceptable to like Pokémon, YuGiOh, Dragon Ball and the Ghibli movies.

If you like anything else they look at you like a squashed bug.

How does a squashed bug look at you?

Comes and goes. A staple for anyone wanting anything other than domestic or american produce. 70s kids remember SF Saiyuki Starzinger, 80s kids grew up with Sailor Moon, 90s had Pokemans, cardgames and a half-decent selection of mangoes. These days people buy or download the american versions as only Ghibli stuff gets translated or dubbed.

tl;dr a niche with only a mild hipsterism to it

Fuck off to or

Not popular at all outside weeb circles and "critically acclaimed" film anime like Kimi no Na wa but even that is niche.

You can only like shit that aired in the 90s. Also SnK and the former big three. Anything else and even "weebs" shun you out. God I hate my country with a passion.

Hungary
Too much

Everyone watches it to some degree
Actually no one will shame you for watching anime because everyone does/did

Most people think it's either porn or shit for children/gays.

Well that's true though

Outside DBZ, Doraemon, Shin Chan and Naruto, there are nothing.
Even the shows from the past that were aired in national tv are long forgotten. (Samurai X, Conan, Gundam, Inuyasha, Haruhi, FMAB, MAR)
Also One Piece is being considered niche here because its a long running series dated too way back.
Kids nowadays doesn't watch anime on weekend morning instead they watch autistic Youtubers on smartphones/tablets.

USA?

I don't know. Why should I know? I don't leave my house to talk with other people, and even if I did I sure as hell wouldn't talk about anime with them because I'm not a filthy secondary. Why do you even care about anime popularity in my country?

Seems relatively popular here in Australia. What I really want to know though is why south americans all seem to be massive weebs.

Where I'm at, currently most people don't have a problem with it because they watch the normie tier shit because of Netflix and Crunchyroll

No domestic animation industry of size. Meaning television channels brought in whatever they felt like. America, Europe or Japan matters less if you're just slapping on a cheap dub anyway.

American media networks want to own all parts of a production, so they can make it fit their exact ideas and easliy cash in if it's a hit. This means they're reluctant to bring in anything from the outside as there's no control. In some cases they try to do their own spin on the concept, which may or may not fail miserably. Top Gear is a good example of yanks sticking their heads into the sand until they understood that the viewers really wanted to watch smug limeys arsing around.

Germany reporting in.
There are basicall four categories of anime that are being watched here:
>"Cartoons" (they run on tv)
One Piss, DB/DBZ, N*ruto
>Weebshit (i.e. watchers go to cons, etc)
DeathNote, InuYasha, Bleach, the Re:-Series, TokyoGhoul, Hellsing, Steins:Gate, maybe EVA (for self-reflecting weebs)
>Obscure shit
EVA, TTGL, Kill La Kill, FLCL, LoGH, WttNHK, basically the classic stuff in Sup Forums´s recommendations list
>Moeshit
The most well-known moe series (very looked down upon)

in france it's a bit "frowned" like ur a weaboo u will be put aside with 1 or 2 friend who like for u personality but if u have ppl like u its ok i gess
it's not my case

I'd wager its popular in Canada among people who live in a bigger city with good internet connect and grew up with the internet and watching cartoons/late night anime on cable.

I live in the 11th biggest city (which is only about 350000 people) and we just got our own local Conventions 2 years ago. They are more general like Comicon but a lot of anime fans show up.

If you go outside the cities or talk to anyone who grew up before pokemon, digimon, dbz started airing they either don't know what it is, don't care about it or think its weirdo shit. For the most part, I'm sure there are some poor closet nerds living out in the middle of buttfuck nowhere.

I own some manga in my native language. It's cringeworthy as fuck.
