Google maps doesn't necessarily have perfect up to date, low-level images from aircraft.
What google has for antarctica could literally be 10+ years out of date.
Again, if you really want to see doublecheck whether you found a science outpost or not, you need to research base locations, rather than going full tinfoil returd "hurr its not on googlemaps must be cianiggers from outer space"

The map they used for the Strava data is a few years old and has inconsistencies like this. If you check the same area in google maps you can see it's just same guy doing a run on the fence of this air field.
