I rewatched it recently. It's got some janky episodes but the meat and potatoes hold up really well. I greatly enjoyed it a second time as an adult. Even found myself liking some fillers eps just as an excuse to see the gang again

Gonna be 100 percent honest. The Amakusa arc from season 3? Honestly kind of alright.

The background villains were shit-tier but Amakusa himself and the idea of using Christianity's influence in Japan at the time wasn't too bad. Plus Sayo was qt.

Yeah but jinchu had some shit villains too and even the Juppongatana weren't winners across the board.

But I liked how they tied in real world history (and watsuki's samurai showdown boner) to create a story and hey it gave some nice attention to Sano. That's appreciated.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely not denying this. My commenting on Amakusa's stuff is meant to be more of a compliment than simply being faint praise.

I know Watsuki liked it, but I didn't know Amakusa was directly inspired from it. That's actually pretty neat.

If you read the notes he takes A LOT of from Sam Sho and Marvel Comics when designing the characters. Even Misao's initial appearance was based on Nakoruru's cape intro. Watsuki was even hired to do some design work for SSV.

I almost feel sorry for Watsuki. He never really recovered from Kenshin. Everything else he made just paled in comparison. Busou Renken was really the only thing he made that was semi popular.

well I think what made Kenshin special on top of everything else was it's historical basis. I liked Busou Renkin quite a bit but without that historical hook it's a very well done yet run of the mill shonen. Watsuki get's characters which is always a nice draw but his real talent was in adapting history.

After shishioh the anime kind of goes to shit. There's some fun one off episodes and the Amakusa arc is alright but over all you may be better off letting it end on a high note.

Even the post Shishoh stuff in the manga was honestly kind of blah to be honest.

What the fuck was up with the OVA were Kenshin dies to aids. Who the fuck greenlit that? Also, like why the fuck were they even made? I remember being hyped when I heard that Kenshin was getting a new OVA and it's him having aids and his son is a little faggot.

To be fair, while Kenji is a little faggot of the highest order, his feelings towards Kenshin were kinda justified for a child. Especially Kenji's admiration for the hitenmitsurugi style. Like many younger fans of the series, he admired the power of Kenshin's sword technique, not the person behind it who grew to hate hurting others.

He's a young boy in post-samurai Japan that was the son of the legendary Hitokiri Battosai. He's going to admire the fighting. And, yes, I'm sure that Kenshin and Kaoru did all they could to raise someone who understood that the end goal of strength should ideally be to protect others and prevent people from fighting, but come on man. He's a kid. He wants to punch other kids he doesn't like and is confused by the little-boy boners he has when Aunty Misao comes to visit, so he doesn't know shit. Plus, Kenshin practically abandons the family for most of the kid's youth. For good reasons: Kenshin is a famous killer and swordsman who knows that he will eventually be attacked by someone seeking the Battosai for a fight. Plus, he contracts JAPAN AIDS, or tuberculosis, or whatever they gave him. He doesn't want his family to see him wasting away and becoming a shell of a human being, ravaged by disease

Those ova's were pure garbage. I wouldn't look too far into them.
